We settled in an uninhabited earthen house in Sand Dune City. I instructed Douding to fetch some clean water, as Chang Liulang was covered in bruises and burns, with his internal organs severely injured. If he did not receive timely treatment, his life would be in danger.
"Douding, clean the wounds on your senior brother," I said. "I will go to Sand Dune City to see if there are any necessary medicines."
Douding acknowledged and took the bloody cloth. The basin of clean water had already turned red with blood, and Chang Liulang's face was pale, his breath weak.
Three days later, Chang Liulang's wounds had healed enough that he was no longer in danger of death. We then set off for Qingliang Mountain. I had concealed our tracks along the way, and the Serpent Cult had not pursued us.
Now, the three of us were homeless and unaware of where the others were, so we decided to return to Qingliang Temple.
The bones scattered at the foot of Qingliang Mountain were unidentifiable. We spent some time burying the skeletons together before starting to repair and rebuild Qingliang Temple.
Chang Liulang could not exert himself too much due to his injuries, so Douding and I rebuilt the damaged courtyard wall of Qingliang Temple brick by brick, working from dawn until dusk.
A month passed like this, and Qingliang Temple was restored to its former state. It seemed to regain its previous tranquility, though everything had changed. Occasionally, I saw Douding returning from the desolate Niujia Village with red eyes.
During this time, at night while sleeping, Douding's forehead often emitted a golden light. I checked several times but could not determine the cause.
One morning, I awoke from meditation to find my Dao Qi surging wildly within me, my Qi Sea rolling as if breaking through some kind of shackles. A faint sound of shattering reached my ears.
"Has it really come so quickly to the mid-stage of Nascent Soul Realm? The Way of Power relies entirely on comprehension; once enlightenment is achieved, one can ascend in broad daylight. But is this truly without issues?" I murmured to myself.
The Golden Nascent Soul above my Qi Sea opened its eyes and dispersed a grayish aura that surged from afar.
I stepped out of the room; outside, the dawn was still brightening as the Great Sun began to rise.
Chang Liulang stood in front of the Disciples' Quarters practicing his morning exercises. Upon seeing me awake, he greeted me, "Good morning, Brother Yang Hao."
I replied, "You are Douding's senior brother; Chang Lao is my Daoist Sect guide. I should also address you as senior brother."
Chang Liulang said, "Brother Yang Hao is my savior and also Douding's savior; it is only natural for me to call you senior brother."
"There's no need for formality. From now on, let's just call each other by our names, as brothers and friends. Feel free to address me however you like," I said.
"That sounds perfect. I wonder how Brother Yang got up so early today?" Chang Liulang asked.
I replied, "Over the past month, my cultivation has progressed. Just now, I felt a disturbance in my heart and realized someone was trying to locate me through my birth date and time. My Nascent Soul shattered their trajectory."
"How could Brother Yang's birth date and time be known to others?" Chang Liulang inquired.
I explained, "My parents are Yang Sanqian and Yaochi Saintess Jiyao. After the Death and Life Register Incident over twenty years ago, someone placed a curse on me. The Book of Life and Death is sealed within me to resist the poison of the curse, allowing me to survive. Therefore, many people know my birth date and time. If I hadn't joined the Daoist Sect, those who understand witchcraft could have easily killed me."
"I see. I heard about the Hua Shan Uprising at the Serpent Cult; you must be one of those involved in the campaign against Huashan," Chang Liulang said.
I nodded and said, "Now that the Book of Life and Death has been taken by the Yang Family, their ancestor, Old Scholar, understands Divination Technique well. It seems that what was just shattered by my Nascent Soul was some means of locating me. I can't leave it here any longer; I need to visit the Yang Family to investigate the whereabouts of the Book of Life and Death. Otherwise, I feel something significant is about to happen. Staying here puts you all in danger as well."
Chang Liulang hesitated for a moment and said, "I'm still only in the late stage of Divine Transformation Realm; I can't be of much help to you. I truly feel ashamed."
"There’s no need for that, Liu Liang Ge. You should stay at Qingliang Temple to take care of Douding. Once I find my friends and settle down, it won't be so bad for us Daoist Sect children to roam the world; many are alone anyway," I reassured him.
"You're right about that," Chang Liulang replied.
I turned back to glance at Douding, who was still sleeping soundly in the Disciples' Quarters, and softly said, "Ever since Douding woke up, there's been something glowing on his forehead, almost like it's sending out signals. I'm not sure what it means. Liu Liang Ge, do you know where Chang Lao brought Douding from?"
Hearing this, Chang Liulang seemed to recall something important. "When I was just fifteen years old, my master had only one disciple—me. One night, he hurriedly ran up from the foot of the mountain with Douding in his arms, just after he was born. Douding's forehead was radiating golden light. When I asked my master what was happening, he looked very serious and didn’t tell me where Douding came from. However, he did ask me to help him seal Douding away and instructed me not to tell anyone about it. Over the years, I nearly forgot about this incident."
Back then, Qingliang Temple Elder Changxi was quite famous within the Daoist Sect, largely due to his association with Yang Sanqian. Could there be something special about Douding's background that led Elder Changxi to secretly bring him to Qingliang Temple?
I picked up a piece of blue stone from the ground and infused it with my Dao Qi before handing it to Chang Liulang. "If anything happens while I'm away, just crush this stone; I'll return as quickly as possible."
"Understood!" Chang Liulang accepted the blue stone and cupped his fists in gratitude towards me.
I nodded and stepped into the void, disappearing from the peak of Qingliang Temple.
Two moments later, I appeared in the territory of Yin Mountain, where the Yang Family Imperial Hall, shrouded in a barrier, came into clear view against the distant high mountains.
I walked up to the entrance of the Yang Family. A massive statue stood with a long weapon in hand, glaring ahead, flanked by two disciples on guard.
"Who goes there?!" One of the Guard Disciples spotted me and pointed, raising his voice to inquire.
The other disciple, who had been dozing off, was startled awake and followed the direction indicated by the first Guard Disciple. He rubbed his eyes, and the shouting Guard Disciple did the same.
"There was clearly someone there just now; why..."
"Get lost with your jumpiness! You almost scared me to death!" The two immediately began to fight.
I stood before Zhengxin Hall of the Yang Family, puzzled: "Is there not a single person inside?"
I approached the entrance to the Yang Family's dungeon. Two disciples guarding the dungeon silently collapsed to the ground. I pushed open the heavy door and looked into the empty cells. Taking out the Zhou Compass, I adjusted its needle. I saw one young disciple after another being taken away by Yang Peng. Later, Yang Peng returned to the cells dressed in Yang Long's clothes and ordered the slaughter of everyone imprisoned in the dungeon.
"Did Yang Long seize Yang Peng's body?" I speculated.
Behind the Yang Family Imperial Hall, around the Longevity Pool, several elders were gathered in a circle, chanting incantations as their essence gradually dissipated and was absorbed into the Longevity Pool.
"Isn't this equivalent to suicide? What on earth is the Yang Family trying to do?" I wondered while hiding outside the Longevity Pool.
The high priest of the Yang Family sat atop a stone platform above the Longevity Pool, holding a massive skull from which streams of black mist emerged and similarly flowed into the Longevity Pool.
I summoned my Invisible Sword, silently slicing through the necks of these elders before returning it to my hand. Bubbles began to rise in the Longevity Pool as all the elders tilted their heads and fell lifelessly.
The high priest opened his eyes and looked in my direction, saying, "Rebellious child, you truly are still alive!"
I walked up the steps of the Longevity Pool and looked at the High Priest, saying, "Although we are not very familiar, I must compliment you on your keen insight."
The High Priest snorted and replied, "You choose to walk a path that leads nowhere. You barged into hell without an invitation, coming alone to the Yang Family; you won't be able to escape!"
With a swift motion, the High Priest reached out, his sleeves billowing as a force that confined the void descended upon me. I gripped the Frostblade tightly and swung it, tearing through the air. The High Priest's eyes widened in shock as he suddenly leaped back, narrowly avoiding the blade's energy, frost clinging to his beard.
"Frostblade?" the High Priest asked in confusion.
I responded, "So you know about it. You're quite something for an old acquaintance. Now tell me, where is Yang Long? Why has everyone from the Yang Family disappeared?"
The High Priest formed seals with his hands, and eight rings of light appeared around him, slicing through the air with a hissing sound. He thrust his hands forward, sending the rings flying toward me as he shouted, "Go ask King Yan!"
I threw a punch with immense force, my skin splitting open from the impact. The eight rings of light shattered under my blow, and the High Priest was sent reeling backward, crashing into a rock before falling down.
He stood up from the ground but had only taken two steps before collapsing to his knees. He murmured, "How could this happen?"
As soon as he finished speaking, he gasped for breath; his head exploded, and golden Nascent Soul liquid spilled from his throat.
