When Yang Yan willingly chose to die at my hands, it was because he could no longer suppress the Dao Qi within him and needed to undergo Foundation Establishment. Those in the Foundation Establishment Realm would open their Qi Sea within three days, and before that, a Dao Dan would form—a precursor to the future Qi Sea.
Yang Yan entrusted his Dao Dan to me, and afterward, my Qi Sea was transformed into a golden hue, becoming immensely powerful and robust.
At present, Yang Long's personality is warm and passionate, somewhat akin to Wu. As the Legitimate Son of a Supreme Sect, he is easygoing, displaying a range of emotions with many flaws. Unlike Song Qianqiu, who appears perfect but harbors ulterior motives, Yang Long's imperfections make him feel genuine to me.
Yang Peng may seem to target me on the surface, yet he harbors no murderous intent. In a large family like his, some friction is inevitable. Yang Peng's character is also quite authentic, presenting no issues. The only problem is that he is a master at the Core Formation Stage.
Yang Long is the Legitimate Son of the Yang Family with only Divine Transformation Realm cultivation, while Yang Peng has reached the Core Formation Stage. I have observed Yang Peng's Dao Qi fluctuations closely; logically, he should not fear Yang Long. However, if the Yang Family adheres strictly to hierarchy and seniority, then Yang Peng's attitude toward Yang Long becomes understandable.
I had promised Yang Yan that if I stepped into the Yang Family and Yang Long targeted me, I would eliminate him without anyone being aware. But now that he shows such loyalty to me, how could I bring myself to do it?
At midnight, I awoke on the rooftop. I realized I had fallen asleep there at some point; a blanket covered me. Looking up at the ridge of the roof, I saw someone standing there with an expression of silence—it was Li Chang'an.
Li Chang'an said, "I know you have many questions, but rest assured, I will not harm you. Earlier you asked why I didn't appear when the Azure Cloud Sect was destroyed. At that time, Ancestor awakened and summoned me back. The Yinshan Yang Family knew about the Serpent Cult attacking Qingyun but no one informed me."
"Why didn't the Yang Family let anyone tell you?" I asked.
Li Chang'an looked at me and replied, "Your question is naive. I am a member of the Yang Family; Old Sect Leader Cloud Sea of Qingyun and I are sworn brothers. However, he has no descendants. There was no need for me to confront the Serpent Cult and Sword Pavilion—two Supreme Sects—for an inconsequential sect."
I nodded; indeed, if it weren't for Yunxi being part of Azure Cloud Sect, I wouldn't have any feelings toward it since there were times when I nearly lost my life there.
"Then what does Li Lao want from me in bringing me to the Yang Family? Is it just about acknowledging my ancestry?" I asked.
Li Chang'an inquired, "What do you wish to do?"
"I want to return to the Central Plains; my friends are still waiting for me," I replied.
Li Chang'an said, "Once the ancestral recognition ceremony is over tomorrow, just speak with the family head; the Yang Family is not a prison."
With that, Li Chang'an took off into the distance. I called out after him, "Did Li Lao ever ask for my consent before bringing me back to the Yang Family?"
The wind blew gently, and the forest swayed, but Li Chang'an did not answer my question.
After returning to my room, I looked at the Ancient Lamp placed on the jade table by my bedside. To my surprise, I noticed that the flame inside flickered slightly. Leaning closer, I realized that the flame seemed to be alive.
I concentrated Dao Qi at my fingertips and shattered the surface of the Ancient Lamp. The flame flew out, and only then did I see that it was actually the soul of a Golden Cicada. According to the Daoist Spirit Insect Register, the Golden Cicada is a spiritual species of the Ancient Taoist Sect, used specifically for conveying messages and also for illumination. For some unknown reason, the Golden Cicada became extinct, yet here was a soul of one. I wondered how long it had been trapped inside the lamp as a wick.
The Golden Cicada buzzed around me, and when I extended my hand, it landed on my palm, its wings coming to a halt. The light emanating from it gradually dimmed, as if it had finally found rest.
"Though you may not be of much use, I'll keep you as a pet," I murmured, drawing the Golden Cicada into my Qi Sea.
Within the Qi Sea, a massive Seven-Colored Bubble floated above, filled with vibrant Spirit Energy and abundant Holy Medicine. The beast lay inside, soundly asleep.
I focused my thoughts, wanting to summon the beast. Ever since it entered my Qi Sea, it had been sleeping, treating me as its nest.
The colorful bubble swayed as the beast let out a lazy grunt. I transmitted my voice: "You lazy creature, get out here!"
"Huh?" The beast stirred at the sound, rubbing its eyes and looking around until it caught sight of my furious reflection in the Seven-Colored Bubble.
The beast burrowed out of the bubble and then emerged from my embrace. Upon seeing the room adorned with exquisite gold and silver decorations and various treasures, it blew out more than ten bubbles in one breath, encircling everything it liked. The bubbles then floated toward me and vanished before I could react; all those items flew into the Seven-Colored Bubble in my Qi Sea, becoming decorations in the beast's Holy Herb Garden.
"What else can you do besides blowing bubbles?" I asked the beast.
It turned to look at me with tear-filled eyes and pouted its lips while making grunting sounds.
"Besides being cute?" I inquired further.
The beast lay flat on the ground without moving. I poked it a few times with my hand, but it remained oblivious. "Alright then, being cute and playing dead while blowing bubbles—do you have any other skills?"
"Pah!" The beast spat water all over my face.
"Get lost with your spit!" I exclaimed, kicking at the beast.
The beast darted away with incredible speed, glancing back at me with a startled expression.
I said, "Alright, since you've acknowledged me as your master, let me give you a name."
The beast nodded and flew into my hand like a well-behaved child.
"By the way, are you male or female?" I asked, gently prying open its legs. The beast covered its legs with its paws and let out a whimper; its fluffy fur made it impossible to discern its gender.
Seeing the beast squirm, I said, "Okay, okay, I won't look anymore. Since you love blowing bubbles so much, I'll call you Bubble."
The beast nodded and blew a bubble that wrapped around me. I pointed at it and shouted, "Put me down! You beast!"
Immediately, the beast put its hands on its hips and shot me an annoyed glance. The bubble popped, and I fell from the rooftop.
After some playful antics, I held the beast in my hand and said seriously, "Now, Bubble. Can you pull out a few plants from your Herb Garden for me? You've taken so much from me; even if you don't return it, you should at least compensate me, right?"
Upon hearing this, the beast pouted and made grunting noises while trying to pry my fingers apart.
"Wow, you've got some strength," I remarked as I squeezed the beast. It began to wail loudly until I finally loosened my grip. It quickly dove back into the Seven-Colored Bubble within my Qi Sea.
The beast shook its fist at me in defiance. I said, "I won't bully you anymore, Bubble. Come out; it's almost dawn. Time to wake up."
With a huff, the beast emerged from the bubble again. It peeked out from my collar and then lay down right beside my head. I smiled at it as it pulled a corner of the blanket over itself and soon fell fast asleep.
The next morning, I jolted awake from a dream about my mother. In Futu Ridge, she asked me why I was here and warned that it was dangerous.
Wiping the sweat from my forehead, I thought that if only I had possessed my current abilities back then, perhaps my mother wouldn't have turned to ashes before my eyes.
I got up to wash my face and tucked the still-sleeping beast into my arms.
Outside in the courtyard under a tree blooming with Crabapple Blossoms sat Yang Long on a stone bench reading. I greeted him, "Good morning! Up so early to read?"
Yang Long didn't hear me, completely engrossed in turning the pages of a book. As I approached, I realized that the content was filled with elegant and seductive descriptions of love between men and women. I cleared my throat and asked, "Excuse me, are you reading Jin Ping Mei?"
Yang Long jumped in surprise, closing the book. When he turned to see me, he patted his chest and said, "You scared me! I thought it was my father. Why are you up so early?"
"I couldn't sleep; my mouth is dry," I replied.
Yang Long called out, "Someone! My brother is up; where is everyone?"
"Young Master, weren't you just watching at the door?" a woman's voice came from outside.
"Oh, I forgot," Yang Long said, slapping his forehead. "Come in quickly and help my brother wash up and get dressed."
I said, "No need; I've already put on my clothes."
Yang Long insisted, "You can't go to the Ancestral Hall like this; your clothes are torn. Cui, bring me that set of brocade robes."
