Human Sacrifice
Dongfang Zhen laughed heartily, pointing at Dongfang Yuqing and said, "Only someone as effeminate as you would lament over the seasons. You don't even deserve to bear the Dongfang name! Hand over your Five Element Sword to me, and I might let you go."
Hearing Dongfang Zhen's words, Dongfang Yuqing shook his head and replied, "How ridiculous. Do you really think that just because you have more people, you can do anything to me?"
Dongfang Zhen declared, "I alone am enough to deal with you!"
With that, he stored the inner core of the Red-Haired Ape and the Divine Stone into his embrace, his fists glowing fiercely as he charged towards Dongfang Yuqing perched atop the treetops. Dongfang Yuqing remained expressionless, watching Dongfang Zhen as the wind from his punches approached. He tilted his body, causing the branches to bend with him, and as the punch wind swept past, he quickly returned to his original position.
Dongfang Zhen landed on the treetop as well, fingers curling as countless swords below slashed towards Dongfang Yuqing. Leaning back, Dongfang Yuqing broke off a branch and swept away all the flying swords. As the last sword was deflected, Dongfang Zhen's eyes narrowed; suddenly, he thrust both hands forward, and under the sunlight, a faint light flickered.
Furrowing his brows, Dongfang Yuqing pinched something between two fingers and flicked it lightly, sending Dongfang Zhen flying away.
Looking at a sword mark on his chest with a trickle of blood seeping out, he coldly said, "I've passed on the Eastern Nine Linked Shadowless Sword to you; not bad at all. If you have the ability, don't let anyone save you. Watch how I destroy this famous sword from the Sword Pavilion."
With that, the Azure Longsword behind him shot out, slicing towards Dongfang Zhen along the trajectory of his finger.
The azure light surged like a dragon amidst a whirlwind. Startled, Dongfang Zhen quickly jumped from one tree to another. As Dongfang Yuqing's sword pointed shifted, the massive tree before him collapsed. Dongfang Zhen fell from mid-air just as Dongfang Yuqing swung his sword down towards him.
Dongfang Zhen raised both hands to block it, watching in horror as an immense sword light descended. He cried out in shock as he crashed heavily onto the ground. The azure sword light vanished as Elder of the Sword Pavilion stood before him, blocking the sword's might.
"Young Master, why must you go this far?" Elder of the Sword Pavilion looked at Dongfang Yuqing and asked.
Dongfang Yuqing snorted and replied, "I thought you were some kind of genius; turns out you're just a waste."
With that, he turned to leave. Dongfang Zhen got up from the ground, wiped the blood from his mouth, and angrily slashed down with his Shadowless Sword at a corpse on the ground in frustration.
Elder of the Sword Pavilion said, "Zhen'er, don't be disheartened. After all, Dongfang Yuqing is a few years older than you. One year is enough time for cultivation in Dao Yi Path to show differences in strength. You have obtained the inner core of the Titan Ape Remnant and Spirit Crystal; once we find Holy Medicine for you to consume, you'll surely be able to defeat Dongfang Yuqing."
Dongfang Zhen nodded with a fierce expression and said, "I will personally bury this Dongfang Yuqing; he has looked down on me for too long."
I quietly retreated along my original path. It seemed that Dongfang Yuqing and those from Sword Pavilion truly did not get along; their family was similar to my Yang Family—willing to sacrifice personal interests for family benefits.
I returned to the base of the giant tree and looked up at the trunk where Zhou Manman was supposed to be, but there was no one there.
"Manman!" I called out anxiously, leaping up into the branches of the giant tree. There were no signs of a struggle or any blood; where could Zhou Manman have gone?
Just then, I suddenly heard a rush of wind behind me, devoid of any killing intent. Someone covered my eyes and said, "Did I scare you?"
I sighed in relief and turned around to embrace Zhou Manman. Her laughter rang like a bell. I asked, "How did you finish refining the Blue Orchid so quickly?"
"I left one petal," she replied.
"Why didn't you refine it all? Aren't you afraid someone will take it?" I questioned.
"This flower was given to me by you," she said.
I smiled and said, "I just went to check on some fights elsewhere. On my way, there was no movement at Zhou Compass. I suspect that aside from this Blue Orchid left on the outskirts of Rear Kunlun, the rest have likely been taken deep into Rear Kunlun by the Spirit Bird. There may be dangers ahead; people's hearts are unpredictable, and traps are everywhere. You must protect yourself. I can't always be there for you; I don't want to lose you again."
Zhou Manman nodded and followed me deeper into Kunlun Demon Realm. Just then, the voice of Yaochi Saintess suddenly came through, "Have you found the Blue Orchid?"
Zhou Manman nodded and replied, "Saintly Matriarch, it was Yang Hao who found it."
Yaochi Saintess said, "I know about Yang Hao having Zhou Compass. With such a treasure-hunting Sacred Artifact, it seems I'm redundant. My Remnant Soul is dissipating faster than I imagined. While I still can, I'll pass on The Art of Reviving Withered Trees in the Jade Pool to you before I leave to revisit the places I've been."
"Saintly Matriarch," Zhou Manman's eyes turned red.
Yaochi Saintess sighed and said, "Life and death are fated; who can be Immortal?"
Saint Sovereign then instructed us on the cultivation method for Renewal of Withered Trees. As I silently recited it in my heart and comprehended Renewal of Withered Trees through the essence of Martial Dao Classic, an immense power gradually radiated from me. Yaochi Saintess's Remnant Soul emerged from Zhou Manman's body. She looked at me and asked, "How could you learn so quickly?"
I replied, "Saintly Matriarch, I've studied Martial Dao Classic, so learning any Cultivation Method comes easily. I can break down Cultivation Methods into their most fundamental techniques for channeling energy and striking acupoints; I'll teach Manman."
Yaochi Saintess appeared slightly surprised and said, "So the rumors about Martial Dao Classic being so profound are true; you truly are favored by heaven."
I responded, "In the Daoist World, one must proceed cautiously; Saint Sovereign has overpraised me."
"The Yaochi Saintess said, 'You are different from other Daoist Sect talents, which reassures me greatly. However, I must remind you about the Book of Life and Death. As long as the Book of Life and Death resides within you, you will become the target of the Daoist Sect. Back then, when I, one of the Five Great Supremes, used forbidden techniques to enter the Underworld and steal the Book of Life and Death, I violated the Daoist Sect's rules regarding the balance of yin and yang. Now, because of the Book of Life and Death, I have been framed by treacherous individuals, and even now, I still do not know who the mastermind is.'
I asked, 'Saint Sovereign, when the Book of Life and Death was in your possession, did many young disciples from various sects truly perish?'
The Yaochi Saintess nodded. 'Indeed. The ones who died were some of the most outstanding disciples from the Underworld Sect. Only I from Yaochi remained unharmed. With the Book of Life and Death in my hands, it naturally became the target of criticism from all sects.'
I inquired further, 'Who do you think is most likely to have framed Yaochi?'
The Saint Sovereign shook her head. 'I have thought long and hard but cannot determine who it could be. To kill so many people at different locations simultaneously is no small feat. Among all treasures, only the Book of Life and Death could accomplish such a thing. However, it was in my possession at that time, and no single person could control it alone. Even we Five Great Supremes struggled to modify the Book of Life and Death together; it would be impossible for one person to use it to kill so many at once. Thus, this remains a mystery. If the culprit does not confess, no one will ever know. However, among all sects, the Serpent Cult and Sword Pavilion are the most likely suspects; both have been eyeing Yaochi with ambitions to unify the Underworld Sect.'
'What about the Yinshan Yang Family?' I asked.
The Saint Sovereign replied, 'While there are suspicions, I cannot fathom what motive Old Scholar would have for harming Yaochi. The Yinshan Yang Family is weaker than the Serpent Cult in power and less reputable than Sword Pavilion. Old Scholar has always been indifferent to worldly affairs and has withdrawn for many years now; his involvement seems unlikely. It could also be someone I do not know or someone Yaochi has offended in the past. In any case, many scheming individuals are watching closely for the sake of the Book of Life and Death. You must remain vigilant and avoid repeating Yaochi's mistakes.'
As I nodded in understanding, the Saint Sovereign's voice grew ethereal. 'All eight Spirit Birds have perished; beasts roam freely in Rear Kunlun, and there are hardly any Holy Medicines left. The next one lies fifty miles west; I can faintly sense the presence of Spirit Birds there. I must take my leave now, child. Tell your mother that she will be the Master of Yaochi from now on. Do not seek to revive Yaochi; just wish for everything to be well.'
With that, the Yaochi Saintess transformed into Lightfeather and vanished before us. Zhou Manman and I stood there watching her disappear, feeling a sense of loss before we continued deeper into the forest until we reached where the Yaochi Saintess had been.
It was a Mountain Valley with red soil surrounded by many people; sounds of fighting echoed from within as I recognized familiar voices."
