Human Sacrifice
The Emei Sect Leader was furious. She immediately unleashed the Arched Eyebrows secret technique, Phantom Layers, and the Flower Washing Sword Technique, aiming to force Yang Sanqian back with a single strike. Yang Sanqian frowned as he looked around at the figures surrounding him, unable to discern which one was real.
The Flower Washing Sword Technique had been a traditional sword style of Arched Eyebrows since ancient times, while Phantom Layers was a technique learned by the Old Sword Saint of Arched Eyebrows during his adventures in the Daoist Sect. Due to its lack of affiliation with any specific sect, it was classified as a secret technique of Arched Eyebrows.
As Phantom Layers was executed, the higher the practitioner's skill, the more phantoms appeared, making it nearly impossible to distinguish them with the naked eye. Moreover, these phantoms could mimic the Dao Qi fluctuations of the original body, making it one of the most mysterious Daoist Arts in the Daoist Sect—difficult to defend against.
One of the phantoms lunged at Yang Sanqian with a sword thrust. Yang Sanqian shifted his feet and leaned slightly, striking out with his palm against the phantom, which dissipated. The remaining phantoms followed suit and attacked Yang Sanqian. He raised his index finger to his nose and chanted a spell. With a whoosh, a gray glow emanated from his body, instantly turning the approaching phantoms into stone-like gray figures that soon shattered and collapsed.
In the arena, the Emei Sect Leader stood with her sword, a smile playing on her lips as she launched another attack at Yang Sanqian. Yang Sanqian's fingers twirled slightly, drawing all the phantoms toward him, leaving only one phantom's sword slightly out of control.
"I found you!" Yang Sanqian declared.
He struck out with a finger, and the Emei Sect Leader blocked with her sword but was knocked back three yards. Her expression changed slightly as her Dao Qi circulated within her body. She silently recited an incantation, and in an instant, countless phantoms filled the mountainside—there were as many as eighty-one.
Jiyao frowned and called out to Yang Sanqian, "Yang Sanqian."
"It's nothing; just a trivial skill," he replied.
"I want to see how you break through this!" many Emei Sect Leaders echoed in unison. "Huanhua Sword Technique, vanquish demons and eliminate evil!"
Eighty-one dancing lotus flowers filled the air with sword shadows and sweeping sword energy that made Yang Sanqian's Daoist Robe flutter wildly.
Yang Sanqian closed his eyes as numerous sword flowers surged toward him, brushing against his hair by his ears. Yet he remained motionless, allowing the sword flowers to pass through him.
Phantom Layers were indeed magical, but the phantoms posed no real threat; the terrifying part was not knowing when the true body would strike. As the second sword flower shot toward his heart, Yang Sanqian remained unmoved.
Suddenly, a gust of wind surged, causing the grass on the ground to stir. Yang Sanqian pointed a finger, and the Emei Sect Leader was sent spinning into the air. A sword aura as powerful as a hurricane slashed toward Yang Sanqian. He opened his eyes and took a deep breath, blowing toward the furious Emei Sect Leader. The phantoms shattered completely, and with a scream, Emei Sect Leader was propelled like an arrow, crashing into the mountainside a thousand meters away due to Yang Sanqian's breath.
"What... what just happened?" The crowd was utterly bewildered by how much power could come from Yang Sanqian's breath.
In the distance, the mountainside exploded, and Emei Sect Leader burst forth from within. She returned to the center of the crowd, her face pale.
"Sister Master, what happened to you?" asked Emei Elder.
Emei Sect Leader frowned deeply. Suddenly, she spat out a mouthful of blood, followed by bursts of blood mist erupting from her body. She convulsed and collapsed to the ground.
"Master!" The crowd gasped in shock, not expecting Yang Sanqian's breath to injure Emei Sect Leader so severely.
A group of Emei Elders drew their swords, ready to fight Yang Sanqian to the death. Yang Sanqian pulled a pill from his robe and said, "Give this to her. Otherwise, she will explode and die within three hours."
The pill flew out, and one of the Emei Elders caught it. The other elders protested, "Elder, we can't trust Yang Sanqian."
Looking at the trembling Emei Sect Leader, Arched Eyebrows, the elder, forced the pill into her mouth. Moments later, her complexion improved slightly, and her body stopped convulsing.
"Why not let Old Man try out Divine Hero's divine skills?" suggested Nangong Dao.
With flames swirling in his hands, Dao Fire, emanating the might of the True Fire of Taiyi, instilled fear in everyone present. Even Yang Sanqian's expression changed slightly. Meanwhile, Dongfang Jiu, smiling broadly, drew a sword from one of his disciples. Looking over at him, Sword Master Jianchang remarked as Eastern Nine Smiles: "You all continue; I'm just here to observe and maybe add a little cut."
At that moment, an elderly man who had been silent at the back of the crowd spoke up, "Enough, Yang Sanqian, come back to the Yang Family with me."
"Yang Xuanzong, is it really appropriate for you to extend an olive branch at this time?" Eastern Nine replied.
The Yang Family Head, Yang Xuanzong, said, "I just want my own family member to come home for a meal. It doesn't seem to concern Mr. Dongfang much, does it?"
Eastern Nine countered, "Now that this couple are the parents of Sinner Yang Hao, they are more likely to know the secrets of the Book of Life and Death. One must wonder, can someone who sealed the Book of Life and Death within their own son truly be unaware of its secrets? As the saying goes, no one knows a child better than their parent."
Mr. Chang looked at Eastern Nine and said, "No one knows a child better than their parent—well said. But may I ask how much Mr. Dongfang knows about Dongfang Yuqing? From what I understand, your son seems to be quite at odds with you."
Dongfang Jiu glared at Mr. Chang and said, "I detest when irrelevant insects buzz around while I'm speaking. I don't quite understand why a mere Core Formation Stage cultivator, someone who was once defeated by Elder of the Divine Serpent Sect Si Tu Nan, would be so arrogant."
Mr. Chang replied, "Are we supposed to measure our words by strength? Do you turn mute in front of the Five Great Supremes?"
Dongfang Jiu chuckled coldly and said, "Very well, let's see what qualifications you have to be so arrogant."
Suddenly filled with killing intent, Dongfang Jiu swung his sword fiercely towards Mr. Chang. Just as Yang Sanqian was about to intervene, Mr. Chang gestured for him to stand down. As the massive sword light descended, one of Mr. Chang's grayish-white eyes suddenly emitted a hazy glow. The sword light twisted and Dongfang Jiu's sword energy dissipated.
"Interesting," Dongfang Jiu remarked in surprise as he twirled his sword into a flourish before letting it fly towards Mr. Chang.
Seeing that Mr. Chang was at a disadvantage, Yang Sanqian had no choice but to step in and intercept Dongfang Jiu's sword. With a flick of his finger, he sent the long sword back into Dongfang Jiu's hand.
Yang Sanqian said, "It seems we will meet again."
Yang Sanqian glanced back at Jiyao, who nodded and flew upward with the Spirit Matriarch towards the Infinite Abyss.
Yang Sanqian followed closely behind Jiyao with Mr. Chang. Nangong, filled with rage, struck the air with a palm, unleashing flames, but Yang Sanqian waved his sleeve, dispersing the Dao Fire completely.
"You actually let them escape!" Nangong scolded Dongfang Jiu.
Dongfang Jiu snorted and replied, "Do you really think the title of Divine Hero is just for show? If you have the ability, go chase them yourself."
At that moment, the Wudang Sect Leader spoke up, "This Yang Sanqian is only in his forties; how could he possibly possess such high cultivation? From the looks of it, he is likely at least in the late Dao Fruit Realm, comparable to our own strength."
The Yang Family Head, Yang Xuanzong, said, "If he were in the late Dao Fruit Realm, an old man like me would certainly be able to tell. As for Yaochi, my Yang Family will not participate. Holy Medicine or whatever else, let the capable ones take it."
After Yang Xuanzong finished speaking, he led everyone out of Yaochi.
The crowd exchanged glances, unsure of what to do. Nangong huffed and said, "Let's break through the Yaochi Barrier; I must capture Yang Hao."
"Master, Elder Situ has already led a team inside. With my Serpent Cult's eldest son Nangong Lin here, we will surely capture Yang Hao," Guardian Yu Youya of the Serpent Cult said.
Meanwhile, in the Kunlun Demon Realm, Zhou Manman and I were walking through a dense jungle. Occasionally, we could hear the low growls of wild beasts in the distance, and we would spot worms as thick as wrists on the trees.
Perhaps due to our encounter at Futu Ridge and Zhou Manman's journey on foot to Kunlun after experiencing so much, she had grown much bolder than before.
Now that Zhou Manman had reshaped her physical body and her soul had been purified, she had reached the Foundation Establishment Realm. However, her cultivation was forcibly elevated by the Yaochi Saintess and was therefore unstable; finding Holy Medicine was an urgent priority.
We followed the direction indicated by the Remnant Soul of the Saint Sovereign through the jungle. The mountain path was rugged, with vines crawling everywhere, making it difficult to traverse. The dense canopy obscured the sunlight, making it hard to discern our direction. While I could still sense the presence of other sects nearby earlier, that feeling had completely vanished now.
"Rear Kunlun is much larger than I imagined. By the way, what is the Kunlun Secret Realm? The Saint Sovereign advised against going there," I asked Zhou Manman while retrieving the Zhou Compass from my Qi Sea.
Zhou Manman shook her head and replied, "I don't know the specifics either. The things in the Saintly Matriarch's domain are beyond human confrontation. She has never been there; she only heard about it from her elders, and she doesn't even know where the entrance is."
"Alright, since our predecessors have warned us like this, it's best to avoid the secret realm and just get the Holy Medicine before leaving."
The Zhou Compass could locate treasures, and the direction indicated by the compass surely led to the Holy Medicine. I moved forward with Zhou Manman until we reached a towering giant tree.
This giant tree was twice as large as any we had seen on our journey. Above us, Spirit Energy surged, and below lay a decaying bird carcass, its feathers emitting a faint Spirit Energy.
Zhou Manman said, "This must be the Spirit Bird raised by the Saintly Matriarch. The Holy Medicine must be up there."
"Wait for me down here; I'll go get it," I replied.
Zhou Manman nodded and said, "Be careful."
Holy Medicines are usually guarded by spirit beasts. Until the Holy Medicine matures, these beasts will not consume it. Although the eight Holy Medicines in Yaochi have reached a thousand-year level, they likely still need more time to mature; otherwise, if she were to send them into Kunlun Demon Realm, they would surely be snatched and devoured by demon beasts.
At the top of the giant tree, I spotted a plant with blue leaves, a blue stem, and blue petals—this was indeed the Holy Medicine.
"So it's a Blue Orchid."
I plucked the Blue Orchid from the branches of the giant tree and let it fall to the ground. Zhou Manman, upon hearing that it was a Blue Orchid, said, "The spring breeze wishes to take the autumn wind's skill, urging the delicate orchid to follow the fallen plum. The Song Dynasty poet Su Zhe specifically wrote this poem for the Blue Orchid. Although this flower is beautiful, how could it be Holy Medicine?"
I replied, "It is rare for a Blue Orchid to become Holy Medicine. Out of every hundred thousand plants, there might not even be one with spiritual essence capable of growing into a thousand-year-old Holy Medicine. Such occurrences are one in ten thousand, and even a thousand years may not yield one. Its effects include enhancing one's power and stabilizing the soul, calming the mind so that one does not fall into madness due to rapid cultivation."
I placed the Blue Orchid on Zhou Manman's head. Her face flushed red as she said, "You should use this Holy Medicine yourself; why put it on my head?"
I insisted, "You should use it. My current power is stable, so using it would be a waste. Besides, I have Soul Nourishing Fruit. It’s getting late now; we will refine the Holy Medicine on this giant tree tonight to avoid any unforeseen troubles."
Zhou Manman nodded. I helped her leap onto the giant tree, and we found a spot on the trunk to sit down.
The surface of the Soul Nourishing Fruit had a hard skin that couldn't be eaten. I peeled it away to reveal the tender flesh inside, which emitted a fresh fragrance. I tore off a piece of fruit flesh and held it near Zhou Manman's mouth. She smiled and ate it. I held her chin and said, "The Spirit Energy in this fruit is too strong; just eat this little bit. The Blue Orchid isn't for eating; you need to try to absorb the Spirit Energy within it using your own Dao Qi and then transform it into Dao Qi to store in your Qi Sea. That is what refining means."
Zhou Manman nodded and began to refine the Blue Orchid as I instructed. Meanwhile, I quickly finished eating the Soul Nourishing Fruit. The flesh was delicious; while it wasn't Holy Medicine, it surpassed that of Medicine King level. I felt an intense heat rising within me and wanted to guard Zhou Manman, fearing she might encounter danger while refining the Holy Medicine. For now, I had to calm myself and focus on refining the effects of the Soul Nourishing Fruit.
Time passed, though I couldn't tell how long had gone by. I felt something within me expanding as if it were about to burst forth. When I opened my eyes again, I saw mountains and rivers beneath me, dense forests all around, and clouds parting above my head. My Primordial Spirit felt as vast as a mountain range.
I immediately focused my mind; my Primordial Spirit returned to clarity. Zhou Manman beside me frowned as strong winds whipped through the forest, causing her hair to dance wildly. There was still more than half of the Spirit Energy in her Blue Orchid that she hadn't absorbed.
At that moment, I vaguely heard sounds of fighting carried by the wind from afar.
