Human Sacrifice
"Get lost! You're neither man nor woman, neither human nor demon!" a young man mocked, and the others echoed his ridicule.
Xiao Yan's reputation in the Outer Sect was well-deserved; he was truly the best. Even Ma Yuan of the Foundation Establishment Realm was no match for him. At this moment, Water Master Liang Yu found himself at a disadvantage, realizing that his strength was no match for Xiao Yan. Remaining here would yield nothing—he couldn't seize the Dragon's Essence Flower or the Dragon Abyss Sword.
Liang Yu retreated with a blank expression, returning to the pool from the grand hall with a face full of dirt and an uncontainable rage in his eyes.
Having taken the Dragon Abyss Sword, Xiao Yan noticed there were no other exits in the hall. He led everyone back along their original path, intending to dive back into the underwater cave before surfacing again.
Only elite disciples from the Outer Sect could reach this place via the Medicinal Valley's river; otherwise, even holding their breath for a few minutes would be beyond what ordinary disciples could endure.
Ma Yuan had sustained serious injuries. He hoarsely told Wang Xing, "We should leave too."
Wang Xing nodded and followed Ma Yuan out of the grand hall. After taking a few steps, he turned back with a puzzled expression.
"Junior brother, what are you dawdling for? Hurry up!" Ma Yuan's voice came from ahead.
"I'm coming," Wang Xing replied as he chased after Ma Yuan.
I dropped down from above the passageway, my gloomy face reflected in the darkness. I tucked the Silver Thread away at my waist without making a move, sticking close to the passageway and following behind everyone.
Once Ma Yuan and Wang Xing jumped into the water, I followed suit. The group swam out from the dimly lit underwater cave. The lake surface was obscured by something, casting an unclear light. Everyone struggled to swim upward when suddenly a young man let out a scream, choking on a large amount of water. The others turned to see an Iron Sword embedded in his chest, pinning him to the riverbed.
Before anyone could react, they saw a flash of White Shadow dart through the water. Liang Yu moved past Azure Cloud Sect disciples one by one; they felt sharp pain in their necks as blood began to flow from below into their line of sight.
Fewer than fifty elite disciples remained, and in an instant, more than half were gone. They clutched their necks as blood gushed uncontrollably before sinking to the river bottom in their struggles.
"Liang Yu!" a young man shouted, expelling all his breath as a White Shadow dragged him downward. He flailed helplessly, panic-stricken, while others hastened to swim upward.
Meanwhile, Xiao Yan, swimming at the top, turned around and grasped the Dragon Abyss Sword from his back, swinging it fiercely toward Liang Yu at the riverbed.
Liang Yu pushed the young man upward, and the young man was sliced in half by the sword energy of the Dragon Abyss Sword.
Liang Yu's expression changed drastically; he never expected the Dragon Abyss Sword to possess such immense power. Even Xiao Yan was taken aback. The sword energy could not be unleashed by experts of the Foundation Establishment Realm, yet the Dragon Abyss Sword could emit sword energy from his hands?
Liang Yu suddenly leaped up from the riverbed, moving like a large fish, his speed astonishing. The river water posed no hindrance to him as he darted among the surviving disciples of the Azure Cloud Sect. Exhausted, they were desperately waiting for a chance to catch their breath, but Liang Yu's claws directly severed their tracheas, causing many to fall in regret.
In the end, only Xiao Yan, Ma Yuan, and Wang Xing managed to escape to the river's surface, along with two other young men.
One of the young men gasped for air as he swam toward the bank, but before he could reach the riverbank, he was dragged underwater. The other stood on top of a corpse in the river, leaping toward the shore when an Iron Sword shot up from beneath the surface and pierced him mid-air.
"Seeking death!" Xiao Yan shouted as he swung the Dragon Abyss Sword across the river's surface. With a thunderous sound, water splashed everywhere, carving a trench along the riverbank.
At that moment, the Coiling Dragon from Medicinal Valley had already departed, and the surrounding barrier had vanished. The God Serpent Cult Leader and elders were nowhere to be seen, but numerous corpses of Azure Cloud Sect disciples floated on the river's surface. Their skin was gray and emaciated, drained of all vitality.
Suddenly, a strand of long hair shot up from the water like a tentacle and wrapped around Wang Xing, who was standing on a corpse. Caught off guard, Wang Xing was pulled into the depths.
"Liang Yu, it seems you want to die!" Ma Yuan roared as he dove into the water.
Moments later, Wang Xing was rescued by Ma Yuan and brought back to shore, but Ma Yuan was dragged back into the water.
At this point, Ma Yuan was severely injured; his face was pale and his Dao Qi was depleted.
"Don't come down!" Ma Yuan shouted before being submerged in the river.
"Senior Brother!" Wang Xing exclaimed anxiously as he looked at Xiao Yan, who remained calmly standing on top of the corpses in the river. "What are you waiting for? Go save my senior brother!"
Xiao Yan's expression remained unchanged as he glared at Wang Xing with killing intent. Wang Xing stepped back and ignited a black tube resembling a firecracker before throwing it into the air. With a loud crackle, it erupted in a massive burst of flames, appearing to be some kind of highly visible signal flare.
Xiao Yan slashed with his sword; the black tube exploded mid-air before any signal could be sent out. Wang Xing turned and fled.
As Wang Xing fled outside the Medicinal Valley, Xiao Yan did not pursue him. He sighed as he looked at the river stained red with blood, then dove into the water.
Under the surface, Ma Yuan was struggling fiercely against Water Master Liang Yu. Although Ma Yuan was a strong practitioner of the Foundation Establishment Realm, he had sustained serious injuries and was at a disadvantage in the water, unable to counter Liang Yu's attacks and forced to defend himself.
Ma Yuan was covered in wounds. He was not adept at agility, and the water only added to his difficulties. Liang Yu, on the other hand, moved with ease, seemingly intent on wearing Ma Yuan down.
Once submerged, Xiao Yan wielded the Dragon Abyss Sword, creating a whirlpool that churned the riverbed into a muddy mess.
"Neither of you will escape today!" Liang Yu declared. His form suddenly shifted; his once fair skin turned green, fangs appeared in his mouth, his clothes ripped apart, and a tail sprouted from behind him.
Xiao Yan frowned and slashed at Liang Yu with his sword, sending a wave of sword energy that cleaved a fissure in the riverbed.
With a roar, Liang Yu's head elongated into a sharp point like a demon's. He darted toward Xiao Yan with incredible speed, striking him back and causing bubbles to rise from his mouth.
Xiao Yan grabbed Ma Yuan's arm and shot upward. Breaking through the surface of the water, he infused Dao Qi into Ma Yuan's body before tossing him onto the shore.
Gasping for air and expelling dirty water, Ma Yuan looked at Xiao Yan in confusion, unsure why he had been saved.
"Quickly go after your junior brother," Xiao Yan urged. "I saw someone chasing him. I'll handle this water monster."
Just as Xiao Yan finished speaking, Liang Yu transformed into a green-skinned water monster and lunged at him, dragging him back into the depths.
Ma Yuan was filled with many questions but had no one to ask. He gazed at the battlefield littered with broken corpses and bodies floating on the river's surface, muttering to himself, "This is bad. The Outer Sect has suffered such heavy losses; if the sect leader blames us, my master will be in big trouble."
With that thought, Ma Yuan hurried off toward the valley's exit.
Meanwhile, beneath the river's surface, Xiao Yan and Liang Yu continued their fierce battle without a clear victor. I had been hiding at the entrance of a cave underwater, watching their fight. Unable to hold my breath any longer, I swam upward for air.
When Liang Yu spotted me after being struck by the Dragon Abyss Sword, his crimson eyes filled with hatred as he turned his attack toward me. I wrapped my fingers around Silver Thread; it coiled around Liang Yu in the water before he could reach me, leaving deep marks on his neck.
The Silver Thread of the Puppet Master was incredibly resilient and difficult to evade. I suddenly pulled Liang Yu's body towards me, loosening my grip on the Silver Thread, but Liang Yu's body swung and became even more entangled in it.
I thrust my Iron Sword into Liang Yu's palm, pinning him to the Riverbank, and then surged upward.
I crawled out of the water, nearly suffocating, gasping for air, while a tremendous disturbance rippled through the water behind me.
After a moment, a foul-smelling stream of blood bubbled up from the depths, and two severed green corpses surfaced—Liang Yu's remains.
Xiao Yan emerged from the water, standing atop a floating corpse. His gaze was cold as he looked at me, blood dripping from his sword onto the river's surface.
Xiao Yan pointed his sword at me and said, "Let me see what you can do."
I stood up and looked at Xiao Yan. "Aren't you going to ask who I am?"
Xiao Yan replied, "No need to ask. I know your surname is Yang."
At that moment in Medicinal Valley, there was no one left besides Xiao Yan and me.
I removed my mask and looked at Xiao Yan with confusion.
Seeing my expression, Xiao Yan showed no surprise. He dropped the Dragon Abyss Sword onto the ground and said, "Most of the Outer Sect Top Ten have died at your hands. Now that Liang Yu is dead too, it's just me left. Come and kill me."
