Human Sacrifice
The close-fitting skirt of Yan Yang suddenly released a strand of Crimson Silk that wrapped around Ghost Wuchang's body, rendering him immobile as Cao Xuan's sword pierced through him.
"Hmph, I really don't understand how someone with your skills made it to fifth in the Outer Sect," Cao Xuan remarked.
"Xuan Ge!" Yan Yang shouted, and the Crimson Silk pulled Cao Xuan back. A blade of light swept through where he had just stood; had he been even a moment slower, his head would have rolled.
Cao Xuan broke into a cold sweat, while Ghost Wuchang let out a cackling laugh. Suddenly, a White Shadow appeared beside him, touching Ghost Wuchang's cloak. The cloak slashed toward Yan Yang, while the sword embedded in Ghost Wuchang shot toward Cao Xuan.
Ghost Wuchang's body exploded, and Daoist Robe flew apart. Amidst the smoke and dust, a figure dressed in black robes emerged, identical in stature to the White Robed Man.
"Wang and Wu Chang?" Cao Xuan exclaimed as he seized the Flying Sword, looking at the two figures before him with a grave expression. A strand of Yan Yang's hair was severed and fell to the ground, her silken locks cascading around her ears.
"It must be some kind of illusion; there's no way two identical figures could appear out of nowhere," Yan Yang said to Cao Xuan.
"Let's find out," Cao Xuan replied as he and Yan Yang lunged forward with their swords. The two worked in perfect harmony; Cao Xuan's sword struck White Wuchang's body, while Black Wuchang sidestepped and grabbed Yan Yang's sword with one hand, the other hand aiming a palm strike at her chest.
Yan Yang was sent flying by the blow. "Black Wuchang is real," she declared.
The two then turned their attention to Black Wuchang. Chains hung from his body, clanking as he wielded them to block their attacks. White Wuchang brandished a Scythe, swinging it toward Cao Xuan's back. With a scream, Cao Xuan retaliated with a palm strike that sent White Wuchang staggering backward.
He thrust his sword directly into Black Wuchang's neck, but Black Wuchang remained unfazed as the chains ensnared Cao Xuan's neck and dragged him closer.
Yan Yang slashed at the chains with her sword; sparks flew but they did not break. At that moment, White Wuchang attacked again, his Scythe dazzlingly swift. The two exchanged glances and then joined forces to strike at the approaching White Wuchang. A powerful force sent White Wuchang flying, blood spewing from his mouth and staining his chest.
"This is the real body!" Cao Xuan shouted angrily as he kicked Black Wuchang away and discarded the chains on the ground. The two charged at White Wuchang, who hurled his Scythe away. Cao Xuan leaned back to snatch it mid-air; both swords struck White Wuchang simultaneously. Yet he wore a smile as they sensed something amiss behind them—before they could turn around, Cao Xuan's head rolled off his shoulders.
"Xuan Ge!" Yan Yang screamed as Black Wuchang seized her by the throat and threw her to the ground, leaving her dazed.
She pulled the sword from White Wuchang's body and tossed it aside. Then White Wuchang approached Black Wuchang, their bodies merging in an eerie manner.
I stood on a treetop, dumbfounded, unable to discern what was happening. All I could feel was some kind of soul power leaping between Black Wuchang and White Wuchang.
A hint of terror crossed Yan Yang's face, but it quickly transformed into an ambiguous expression as she looked at Ghost Wuchang and pleaded, "Please don't kill me; Xuan Ge is already dead."
Yan Yang caressed her fragrant shoulder as she crawled toward Ghost Wuchang, her painted nails reaching for his leg. Ghost Wuchang pulled the Blood Bodhi from Cao Xuan's embrace and tucked it away, then used a chain to drag Yan Yang by the neck toward the cave.
"This isn't right, Ghost Wuchang," I coughed, gliding down from above the giant tree.
Ghost Wuchang looked at me with suspicion and wariness. "Who are you? Is there a human head in that bag on your back?"
"You can tell that much? Impressive," I replied with a smile, patting the bulging bag behind me.
"You and I have no grievances. I see you're skilled; I don't want to kill you. Scram and don't disturb my good fortune," Ghost Wuchang said.
"Brother Wuchang, that's quite disheartening. As the saying goes, 'to each their share.' I happen to have a black-and-white mask as well. With two people and this beautiful lady together in the wilderness, wouldn't it be more thrilling?" I laughed heartily.
"Get lost!" Ghost Wuchang hissed, the chain in his hand coiling toward me like a snake.
I dodged swiftly, appearing before Black Wuchang in the next moment. He was caught off guard and I struck him hard against the mountainside with a punch, causing his chest to cave in. In that instant, I felt an energy transfer from his body. A flash of white light appeared above me as White Wuchang descended, swinging his Scythe toward my head.
Instead of retreating, I stepped forward, bracing one hand against White Wuchang's arm as he swung the Scythe. His arm bent under my grip, and with the Scythe's own curve, its tip plunged into his neck with a sickening sound. Energy surged away from him and into Black Wuchang. My fist glowed with a layer of earthy light as it slammed into Black Wuchang's chest.
With a thunderous crash, the mountain trembled as blood poured from Black Wuchang's seven orifices.
White Wuchang collapsed to the ground, emitting hissing sounds until he transformed into a rotting corpse that reeked of decay.
I rummaged through Ghost Wuchang's belongings. Besides the Blood Bodhi I sought, I found a book titled Evil Technique of Impermanence. After a brief glance through it, realizing it didn't contain any teachings from Martial Dao Classic, I set it ablaze.
Turning to the injured Yan Yang, who was trembling in fear, she whispered, "If you let me go, I'll do anything. The Yin-Yang Harmonization Technique is an extraordinary skill; my husband and I haven't even mastered one layer. If we could reach ten layers, we could rival the Five Great Supremes—just like the Transcendent Duo from eight hundred years ago."
Yan Yang crawled toward me. Just as she reached out her hand, a knife flew from behind me and severed her neck in one swift motion.
With that, eight of the top ten experts from the Outer Sect were gone.
The third-ranked Drawing Technique master Qing Shi, fourth-ranked Puppet Master, fifth-ranked Ghost Wuchang, sixth-ranked Golden Boy Cao Xuan, seventh-ranked Li Zhe, eighth-ranked Jade Maiden Yan Yang, ninth-ranked Nangong Xie, and tenth-ranked Xiong Wanjun were all dead.
"That leaves two more high-ranking individuals: one is Xiao Yan who has been in the Outer Sect for ten years, and the other is Water Master Liangyu who has already obtained the Foundation Pill."
The reason these individuals are not as capable as I am is due to my suppression of their realms. Furthermore, they are in the light while I am in the dark; my plans to eliminate them have long been set. If those I kill were to enter the Inner Sect, they would undoubtedly be experts there, especially Qing Shi, the master of the Drawing Technique.
Talent is called talent because it can accomplish what even adults find difficult when the time is right. However, talent fears being stifled, crushed in its infancy before it has a chance to grow.
I placed the Blood Bodhi into my Qi Sea, alongside other herbs I had gathered, and climbed to the peak of the cave, surveying my surroundings.
At that moment, several disciples were making their way deeper into Herb Valley. A cold mist enveloped the area, giving it a gloomy appearance. Occasionally, a giant eagle would circle overhead before disappearing into the clouds.
I dashed down the mountainside, and soon reached the foot of the mountain. I could faintly hear voices nearby, so I hid behind a tree and saw a few disciples from Azure Cloud Sect passing by. One young man said, “Senior Brother, let’s hurry over! I heard someone discovered Holy Medicine. If we can get our hands on it, our sect will surely take notice of us!”
The leader shook his head and replied, “Holy Medicine is extraordinary. We are just ordinary people; we can't even make it into the top hundred. How can we compete with others? No one is guilty, but having something precious is a crime. Obtaining Holy Medicine will only bring about our demise.”
“Then it’s better to at least go take a look. I heard that Xiao Yan from Outer Sect ranked first and Liang Yu ranked second have already rushed over. In my three years since joining, I've seen many challenges but never witnessed these two,” said the young man.
The youth nodded and said, “Xiao Yan hasn’t established his foundation for ten years. It’s rumored that his meridians are blocked and he cannot advance in cultivation. That’s why he’s claimed to be invincible among those below Foundation Establishment Stage. Some say he’s still young and is waiting for the right moment to achieve a perfect foundation transformation and unlock the legendary golden Qi Sea. If he truly can do that, he will be the next Supreme.”
“The golden Qi Sea?” The young man was captivated by this term. Those with a golden Qi Sea possess immense strength in both body and soul; it is said that as long as their heads aren’t severed, they can come back to life—truly unmatched among their peers. “What about Liang Yu?”
The youth replied, “Liang Yu allows others to choose the location when challenging him, but if he is challenged, it must take place by water because his innate cultivation method is related to water. Once I heard Elder Jin say that cultivating a water-based method to such a level is not something just anyone can achieve.”
