Human Sacrifice
The meaning of Scruffy Old Daoist was clear: a person's Qi Sea cannot contain objects. It seemed that my Qi Sea, whether influenced by the Seven-Colored Elixir or the Book of Life and Death, had unexpectedly opened up to accommodate Treasures. This discovery filled me with joy.
Although I had reached the Foundation Establishment Realm at this point, my mastery over Dao Qi was still far from sufficient. While others took years or even decades to reach this stage, I had only made a small leap. I needed time to solidify my foundation.
I had memorized the heart mantra of the Taoist Sacred Body Forging Technique and could find several common medicinal herbs. I had seen a few growing on Azure Cloud Mountain, but there were too few and not enough in quantity. I went to the Outer Sect's Herb Room and used my remaining Silver Coins to buy some herbs. After returning to my residence, I used a large pot in the Disciples' Quarters area to brew a potion.
The Outer Sect Disciples passing by frowned at the sight and someone asked, "Who is this person? Is he cooking?"
"From his appearance, it looks like he’s brewing medicine. He must be interested in medical arts and wants to develop in alchemy within the Inner Sect. The Alchemist's Chamber is quite popular now; they produce tens of thousands of pills each month. People treat Qi Gathering Pills like candy; they are really short on personnel."
After brewing the medicinal soup, I ladled it into a large vat, then carried it inside and locked the door before enjoying a comfortable bath.
However, since it was my first time brewing medicine and I was still unfamiliar with some of the pharmacology, the potion I made turned out to be ineffective.
Later that night, I sat cross-legged on my bed practicing Qi cultivation and only lay down to sleep in the early hours of the morning. In a daze, I heard Douding's voice and saw Douding's true innocence in my dreams.
When I woke up, a wave of disappointment washed over me. Douding was ultimately dead, killed before my eyes by members of the Serpent Cult.
After getting up and washing up, I found the Outer Sect cafeteria and had some food before heading towards the Outer Sect's Training Arena because today I was going to challenge one of the top thirty wolves in the Outer Sect.
Upon arriving at Martial Arts Square, the wolf had already arrived early amidst a crowd. He was teaching some New Disciples combat techniques while they listened attentively.
The boy I had injured poked the wolf and said, "Senior Brother, Yang Hao has arrived."
The crowd fell silent as the wolf turned to look at me. His nostrils flared as if he were sniffing something and said, "How many herbs did you consume or did you take a medicinal bath? You reek of medicine."
I asked, "Did you take my ten Qi Gathering Pills?"
The wolf replied, "Since entering the sect, I've never taken any pills; I've relied solely on my own cultivation to reach this point. Achievements gained through external means are fundamentally different from those cultivated through one's own Dao Qi. Even if you are at the Late Stage of Qi Entry Realm or Foundation Establishment Realm, you are still no match for me."
I asked again, "Did you take my ten Qi Gathering Pills?"
The Wolf raised an eyebrow and replied, "As a latecomer disciple, showing such disrespect to your senior brother, it seems you've become too arrogant after defeating Qi Shaoyu!"
As soon as the Wolf finished speaking, I activated the Wind Spirit Technique and charged at him with my fastest speed. A yellowish light enveloped my palm, and my entire arm felt as if it were covered in armor. The Wolf's sharp eyes quickly caught my movement, but he had no time to react. He instinctively raised his arms to block, but I struck him with a powerful slap that sent him flying. He crashed into a nearby stone tablet, shattering it.
The Wolf's expression turned furious as he stood up and pointed at me, saying, "You despicable person, you haven't..."
Before he could finish his sentence, blood spewed from his mouth as he half-kneeled on the ground. I kicked him under the chin, knocking him down, and then began to stomp on his chest.
I grabbed the collar of the Wolf's clothing and lifted him up, asking, "I'll ask you one more time: Did you take my ten Qi Gathering Pills?"
With blood trickling from the corner of his mouth, he managed to utter a single word: "Yes."
"Yes means yes; no means no. Why all the unnecessary chatter?" While saying this, I rummaged through the Wolf's pockets and pulled out various items until I found my ten Qi Gathering Pills.
I tossed the Wolf onto the ground without sparing him a glance and scanned the crowd. The people stepped back in fear; among them were two individuals huddled at the back—managers from the Miscellaneous Room.
I dragged them toward the Miscellaneous Room, completely ignoring the stunned expressions and murmurs of the crowd behind me. The two managers begged for mercy, terrified that I would kill them.
Upon reaching the Miscellaneous Room, I ordered them to open the storage room. I searched for some items I needed while they stood by nervously without uttering a word. Once I found what I wanted, I asked, "Do you have any wine here?"
The Fat Steward replied, "Yes, we have wine—twenty-year-old premium wine."
"What are you standing there for? Go get it for me!" I glared at the Fat Steward.
He nodded quickly and hurried off to fetch the wine. Turning to the Thin Steward, I said, "I know you're full of tricks; you must think I've stolen something from the Miscellaneous Room and want to report me to an elder. This Wolf is ranked thirtieth; isn't that impressive? Who else can you find as a backing?"
The Thin Steward replied hastily, "No more reporting! We definitely won't report anything in the future."
Bang! Bang!
Without warning, I struck Thin Steward twice in the face. He immediately covered his mouth and leaned against the door, spitting out seven or eight shattered teeth while mumbling a plea for mercy.
I patted his head and said, "I’m not someone who likes to stir up trouble. Ever since I walked in wanting to send a letter, you all have been provoking me. If I let you bully me, I’d probably be dead by now. Don’t let me see you again, and don’t let me hear about you either. Otherwise, there are countless ways to kill someone, and I will find a way to make your deaths quiet and unnoticed."
"Here comes the wine!" Fat Steward rushed over with a jug. I took the wine, shot him a warning glance, and then strode away.
The news of my duel with the wolf quickly spread throughout Outer Sect. In the history of Azure Cloud Sect, there have been many prodigies who rose rapidly, even some who directly challenged and defeated the top-ranked disciples. However, none had ever started as a laborer, first defeating the one hundredth ranked disciple with ease, only to then take down the top thirty strong ones.
Rumors spread that the wolf was agile and extremely powerful, rarely encountering an opponent among his peers. When he fought, he resembled a mad wolf. Yet I had defeated him with just one slap, leaving him unable to continue fighting.
The disdain from the disciples of Outer Sect quickly turned into awe.
People always fear the strong rather than judge their character.
In Azure Cloud Sect, strength is paramount.
When I returned to my residence, several people were gathered at my door, all wearing sycophantic smiles. One of them said, “Brother Yang Hao, I am Shira Hwa. I've long heard of your great name and have admired you from afar; I come here to pledge my loyalty.”
“We are too, Brother Yang Hao. You have defeated two of the top one hundred disciples in just two moves; we are willing to be your followers. We hope you will accept us and that we can assist you in any matters that arise.”
I looked at them and said, “Pledging loyalty without any real contribution? If you have matters that need resolving, I'll have to step in while you can’t help me at all. Do you think I'm a fool?”
“Um… what does Brother like?” someone asked.
I replied, “Two Qi Gathering Pills each month handed over to me. If anyone bullies you, I will certainly stand up for you.”
“Brother Yang Hao, for us Outer Sect Disciples who haven’t made it into the top one hundred, we only get two Qi Gathering Pills each month. If we give them all to you, we won’t be able to cultivate,” someone said awkwardly.
I snorted and said, "As long as you know about cultivation, that's enough. Stop thinking about these crooked paths; improving your strength is the most important thing. I don't have much time to deal with you, so disappear from my sight immediately."
With a loud bang, I slammed the door shut, ignoring the commotion outside from the Outer Sect members.
Now that I had reached the Foundation Establishment Stage, my cultivation was forcibly boosted by the Seven-Colored Elixir, making it unstable. If I were to face an opponent of the same level, I would likely be at a disadvantage. Therefore, stabilizing my realm and consolidating my Dao Qi was an urgent task for me.
I took a Qi Gathering Pill, and as its medicinal power spread through my limbs and bones, it eventually converged into my Qi Sea. Now, the Dao Qi within me surged like turbulent waves, no longer the gentle trickle it used to be; my strength had dramatically increased.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. I opened my eyes and asked, "Who is it?"
A voice from outside replied, "Yang Hao, my senior brother wants to see you. He has something to tell you."
"Who is your senior brother?" I inquired.
"Xiong Wanjun, the tenth-ranked disciple of the Outer Sect."
"I haven't heard of him. If he wants to see me, let him come himself."
"You!" The person outside sounded somewhat annoyed.
"If you don't leave now, I'll break one of your legs so you won't be able to walk away," I said coldly.
"Fine, you've got guts," the person retorted.
Not long after that person left, another voice rang out from outside; it sounded like a child: "Yang Hao, Zhang Zhao wants to find you."
I was irritated by being disturbed twice by strangers and asked, "Who is Zhang Zhao? The first-ranked in the Outer Sect? If he wants to see me, let him come himself!"
The child replied, "He's not on the Outer Sect Ranking. He had some conflict with you when he first arrived and wants to explain."
I opened the door and said to the child in front of me, who looked only twelve or thirteen years old, "Lead the way."
There was a path behind the Disciples' Quarters that led straight into the forest. I followed the child to a secluded clearing in the woods, where Zhang Zhao was waiting for me under the moonlight. Upon seeing me, he wore a proud expression and said, "I knew you would come."
"It's nothing. I just wanted to see how you're doing so well lately. I was starting to suspect you took some kind of drug or possessed an Exotic Treasure," Zhang Zhao replied, chewing on a blade of grass.
"Do you want it?" I asked.
"It's not him who wants it; it's me," a deep voice came from behind me. A robust young man appeared, accompanied by a dozen Outer Sect Disciples emerging from the surrounding woods.
I looked at the Robust Youth and asked, "You are Xiong Wanjun?"
"That's right, I am Xiong Wanjun. Find what I want, and I might let you go," he replied.
"Otherwise, you'll kill me?" I squinted and asked.
"I won't kill you, but you definitely won't have an easy time. A wise man doesn't suffer losses for the moment; you should understand the Sin of Holding a Precious Gem. To have your cultivation rise so quickly and look so youthful must mean you possess some kind of treasure. I've already investigated in the Water Storage Room; Yellow Tiger had mentioned before his death that you were in possession of rare herbs," Xiong Wanjun said.
"You know I have treasures and still come to provoke me; you have quite a bit of confidence," I said coldly.
Xiong Wanjun chuckled, "Those who can enter the Outer Sect Top Ten are vastly different from those ranked eleventh; otherwise, no one would dare challenge us for half a year. My true strength is beyond just being in the top ten. So I advise you to obediently hand over what I want; otherwise, I can't guarantee that I won't accidentally kill you."
