After feeding my mother-in-law, only two hours remained until the incident occurred. Yet, I still had no clues.
I remembered that in my past life, Fu Jing had replaced me to deliver food to her. Then, my mother-in-law suddenly died, and I became the accused murderer. This time, I absolutely could not follow the same path as before.
My close friend Lin Yan stayed in the hospital room for a while before making an excuse about work and leaving for another ward. I quietly followed her, carefully observing her behavior. However, Lin Yan acted completely normal, without any signs of abnormality. My doubts grew heavier.
Could it be that there was nothing wrong with my mother-in-law's examination report and that I was just overthinking? I returned to my mother-in-law's hospital room and picked up the Report Card to examine it closely. Suddenly, I discovered something.
The data on the Report Card showed no significant changes compared to before. However, one Indicator had decreased by 0.1% compared to earlier. Such a minuscule change would have gone unnoticed without careful scrutiny. In my past life, I had been overwhelmed by the news of my mother-in-law's suicide and hadn’t looked closely at all.
But now, this 0.1% difference made everything clear to me in an instant. I took the Report Card and went to find the doctor. The doctor glanced at me and replied formulaically, “All Indicators are normal; there’s nothing wrong.”
I pointed to that particular Indicator and asked him:
"Compared to before, this Indicator has dropped by 0.1%. Is there something wrong with the equipment?"
The doctor's expression changed, and he took the Report Card to double-check carefully.
He stammered, "It should... it should be a problem with the equipment. I'll verify it again."
With that, he picked up the Report Card and stood up to leave.
I stepped in front of him, pulling up all of my grandmother's examination reports on his computer. Sure enough, all the report data had been subtly altered. If I hadn't been so familiar with my grandmother's condition, I would never have noticed.
I looked at the doctor, whose forehead was already beaded with sweat.
Clearly, this was intentional. My grandmother's death was not an accident; it was a conspiracy.
The doctor felt uneasy under my gaze and wiped the sweat from his forehead, saying nervously, "Miss Zhao, please don't worry. I will investigate this immediately."
I took a deep breath and told him, "I will transfer my aunt to another hospital. I hope your hospital can provide me with a satisfactory explanation."
After returning home, I packed my bags and lay on the balcony to soak up the sun. The long-lost tranquility allowed me to relax for a moment.
At that moment, my best friend Lin Yan called.
" Yuanyuan, where are you? Auntie has committed suicide!"
Her voice was urgent and filled with concern. But I had already foreseen all of this.
After hanging up the phone, I blocked Lin Yan.
I quietly gazed out the window as the sunlight warmed me gently.
I slowly opened my eyes, though I couldn't tell how long it had been.
In the hospital, a crowd surrounded me.
Cameras flashed incessantly in my direction.
My best friend, Lin Yan, stood at the edge of the group, her eyes red with anger as she glared at me.
"Zhao Yuan, you treated Auntie poorly; we all saw it."
"I never expected you to actually abuse her and humiliate her with your words."
"What did Auntie do to deserve this? Why should she have to endure it?"
Lin Yan pulled out her phone and played a recording.
In the recording, my mother-in-law's voice came through, shaky and fragmented:
"I... I don't want to live anymore. I... I choose to end my life; it has nothing to do with Zhao Yuan..."
Though the audio was somewhat unclear, it was unmistakably her voice.
With this recording, my guilt became undeniable.
The looks everyone gave me were filled with anger and contempt.
