Xiao Nan fell silent all of a sudden.
Fat Ma said, "Don't worry, Fat Master will definitely help you rescue your master."
Xiao Nan grinned, and Fat Ma chuckled along with him.
The broken White Jade Chair that Fat Ma spoke of quietly stood in front of the divine beast, exuding an aura of the vast sea. I gazed into the distance, but at that moment, I found myself unable to move an inch.
In truth, we had no need to take such risks; we could have packed our things and gone home right then. However, we each had our own goals to accomplish.
"What do we do now?" Fat Ma asked, turning back to me.
"We can't get through," I replied.
Black Glasses said, "If we can't get through, then I'll blow up that entrance."
I knew what he was referring to.
But the Mud Man seized the opportunity and asked Black Glasses, "Do you have explosives?"
Black Glasses shook his head.
Fat Ma's smile instantly turned into a frown.
If he had explosives, Old Mountain Master would have been freed from underground long ago.
Until now, the person who brought us here had not surfaced, and my confusion deepened, my mind a tangled mess. I felt utterly helpless. I spoke up, "I don't know what to do." They looked at me in surprise.
Fat Ma placed a hand on my shoulder and said, "Old Sun, don't worry. There will be a way."
The clay figure offered me a cigarette, which I declined.
Looking at the stone-carved statues and the turned-off flashlight of Starry Sky, many things remained a mystery.
I sat down on the ground to think, and they followed suit. The five of us formed a circle. Silence enveloped us.
I sat with my back to the white chair, while Xiao Nan sat across from me.
Suddenly, Xiao Nan gasped and pointed behind me. I quickly turned to look and saw that another person had suddenly appeared on the White Jade Chair.
We all sprang to our feet, gazing in that direction.
I shouted, "Are you human or ghost?" My eagerness for answers led me to blurt out the question without thinking.
The person sitting on the White Jade Chair did not respond to us; light reflected off the chair, casting a white glow.
His face was obscured by long hair.
Fat Ma pressed on, "Grandfather Sun is asking you a question. Did you hear him?"
Still, there was no response from that side.
Black Glasses shielded Xiao Nan behind him, and the clay figure's expression was tense as well.
"Are you human or ghost? Say something!" Fat Ma pressed, and just as the words left his mouth, the figure let out a chilling, ghastly laugh that made us all feel uneasy.
The laughter continued, echoing eerily.
Our emotions seemed to be affected as well. I angrily shouted, "What are you laughing at?" No sooner had I spoken than he suddenly brushed his hair aside, revealing a dark purple face that abruptly came into view.
Black Glasses' emotions surged, and he was about to rush forward. Seeing this, I quickly pulled him back. "Don't be hasty."
Black Glasses wasn't usually impulsive, and after hearing my words, he calmed down a bit.
Xiao Nan, still unaware of the situation behind us, was intentionally held back by Black Glasses to prevent him from moving forward.
The figure continued to laugh in a piercing manner, sending chills down our spines, like the voice of a malevolent spirit from the Nine Hells.
We dared not approach; there was still a face waiting for us over there.
Though we hesitated, he dared to come closer. He stepped down from the White Jade Chair and walked toward the Stone Carved Beast with that same ghastly laughter.
The clay figure said, "Get ready!"
Fat Ma clenched his fists, and I was naturally prepared as well.
Black Glasses wore a solemn expression.
As the Old Mountain Master approached us, the coldness intensified. We instinctively took a step back.
The Old Mountain Master was nearly out of the Stone Carved Beast's passageway.
"Grandpa!" Black Glasses shouted.
Xiao Nan quickly squeezed forward, calling out for his master.
But Old Mountain Master showed no response.
"Master, it's me, Xiao Nan. Don't you recognize me?" Xiao Nan cried out, his voice trembling with emotion.
Yet Old Mountain Master remained unresponsive.
Fat Ma curiously asked, "How did Old Mountain Master end up on the White Jade Chair?"
"You'll have to ask him yourself," the Clay Man replied.
"After you subdue him, can you ask him for me, Clay Man?"
The Clay Man smiled faintly.
It's strange, I thought to myself, how could he have suddenly appeared?
Black Glasses stepped forward again and called out, "Grandpa." But in response, he received a punch that sent him sprawling to the ground.
I quickly grabbed Xiao Nan. "Your master has lost his sanity."
The Clay Man went over to help Black Glasses up. "He is no longer the Old Mountain Master we knew."
Black Glasses glanced at Old Mountain Master, whose face had turned a deep purple. Long hair had sprouted from who knows when, and his eyes held an unsettling glint. His nails had also grown long and sharp.
"Can you really not recognize me, Grandpa?" Black Glasses asked reluctantly, removing his sunglasses. A pair of narrow, pointed eyes appeared before us. These eyes were truly small, only about a third the size of an average person's, and the pupils seemed unfocused.
Old Mountain Master remained unresponsive, reaching out to grab Black Glasses by the neck. Black Glasses dodged and quickly put his sunglasses back on.
The Mud Man also took a few quick steps back.
Fat Ma turned to Xiao Nan and said, "I'm going to save your master," before charging forward.
Black Glasses and the Mud Man were facing off against Old Mountain Master.
Old Mountain Master did not hesitate and continued to attack Black Glasses.
The Mud Man warned Black Glasses, "Don't back down."
Black Glasses glanced at the Mud Man, who blocked an attack for him.
Fat Ma rushed in, intending to pin Old Mountain Master to the ground, but he underestimated Old Mountain Master's current state.
In just a second, Fat Ma was knocked down. Old Mountain Master pressed down on the hefty man, his hands poised to pierce Fat Ma's throat. Without thinking, Fat Ma shouted, "Dead Mud Man, what are you waiting for?"
Hearing this, the Mud Man stepped forward and yanked Old Mountain Master's hair, pulling him backward until he fell to the ground.
Fat Ma kicked at a wheelbarrow and then got back up.
However, Black Glasses still hadn't moved. I could tell he was hesitating. I was also worried that Fat Ma and the Mud Man might not be able to handle it, so I said to Xiao Nan, "I need to go help. Stay where you are."
Xiao Nan nodded absently.
" Fat Ma shouted, 'Mud Man, hold him down while I give him a taste of Black Donkey Hoof.'
Mud Man rolled his eyes and replied, 'Why don't you hold him down, Fat Ma?'
'I'm more agile,' he said.
As I was walking, I stumbled slightly at those words and nearly fell.
It was at that moment that Black Glasses took the initiative to attack Old Mountain Master, but he didn't use any lethal moves.
The three of us huddled together, and I spoke up, 'We just need to subdue him.'
Fat Ma patted his pocket where the Black Donkey Hoof was kept and said, 'Old Sun, you're right. After we subdue him, let him have a taste of Black Donkey Hoof.'
Seeing Fat Ma's obsession with Black Donkey Hoof, I couldn't help but remind him, 'Old Mountain Master might not turn into Zongzi.'
Fat Ma paused at my words and nodded, 'That makes sense.'
Black Glasses was also nearing his limit. Taking advantage of the moment, I glanced closely at Old Mountain Master; he looked as if he were possessed."
