Jono couldn't think too much; she rushed forward to stop Qiao Chen. She couldn't let Qiao Chen get into more trouble.
"Qiao Chen, stop it!" She used all her strength to hold Qiao Chen back.
The situation quickly spiraled out of control. Initially, Jono thought they could just apologize to the teacher and that Qiao Chen would be able to stay at school.
But who would have guessed that the parents of the student Qiao Chen had hit would be so relentless? They came in and slapped Jono right away. How could Qiao Chen tolerate someone hurting her sister? She confronted the Classmate's Mother, injuring her in the process. Now, that woman insisted on holding Qiao Chen accountable and even called the police!
This had escalated significantly. Jono felt a throbbing in her temples as she listened to the other parent accuse Qiao Chen of violently attacking her son. She didn't even have a moment to interject.
"Anyway, I’m pressing charges against them. I want this little thug to go to jail!" The Wealthy-Dressed Woman said coldly to the police after slapping Jono.
The officers felt it was an overreaction; it seemed like a simple conflict between classmates—how could it lead to jail time?
But Jono was suddenly anxious. If Qiao Chen went to jail, how would she explain it to their father?
"No, my brother just..."
"What happened here?" A deeper voice suddenly broke through the tense atmosphere of the office. Jono recognized that voice; she had heard it just yesterday.
She looked up towards the door.
Jin Chengyan.
When Teacher Wang saw Jin Chengyan approaching, a smile immediately spread across his face. "Mr. Jin, what brings you here at this hour?" Teacher Wang was no fool; he noticed the principal, Vice Principal, and a group of others following closely behind Jin Chengyan.
Jono frowned. Was Jin Chengyan a board member of this private school?
Since entering the office, Jin Chengyan had fixed his gaze on Jono. The corners of his mouth lifted slightly, as if greeting her, though it felt more like an empty smile.
The Classmate's Mother, upon seeing the principal and others arrive, became even more insistent. "My child was beaten by classmates at school, and today I was pushed to the ground. When I enrolled my child in this school, I chose it for its excellent teaching resources, responsible teachers, and high-quality students. Who would have thought this school would be just like any other? At this rate, you'll soon be no different from an ordinary high school!"
Her words left the leaders in the office looking disheartened; after all, such incidents had never occurred since the school's establishment.
"Ma'am, there seems to be some misunderstanding here. Is it really necessary to involve the police? This isn't a good situation for either the children or the school," the school director said kindly, trying to mediate.
"Hmph!" Classmate's Mother scoffed and then glanced at Jono. "Anyway, I'm definitely going after the Qiao Family. What qualifications does a bankrupt family have to act tough here?"
After hearing too many remarks about her family's bankruptcy over the past few days, Jono was genuinely fed up. She grabbed Qiao Chen's hand.
Qiao Chen thought that Jono wanted her to apologize to them and struggled silently.
Unexpectedly, Jono said, "I already heard from my brother about what happened yesterday. Your son started it first; my brother couldn't stand by and did what he had to do. Yes, hitting someone is wrong, but I came here today for him to apologize to you. Yet you walked in and slapped me right away! My brother was just protecting me; he couldn't just watch while you hit me without doing anything!"
"You..." Classmate's Mother pointed at Jono.
However, Jono did not give her a chance to speak. "Yes, our family is bankrupt and we can't afford a lawyer! But if you insist on making us suffer, I, Jono, won't be a coward. We'll see each other in court! As for this school..."
Jono glanced at Teacher Wang, having already witnessed her dismissive attitude.
But she also took a look at Jin Chengyan. Although she didn't know why he was here, she couldn't afford to think about that right now.
Jin Chengyan stood there unmoved, making Jono inexplicably feel that he was only here to watch her make a fool of herself.
