Wang Niu couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief as the protective shield around them faded away.
"Let's go," the woman said, glancing around and seeing that there was nothing in sight. She turned to Wang Niu.
Wang Niu nodded in agreement and replied, "Okay."
The two continued walking forward, but suddenly, for some unknown reason, the woman stopped, her face pale.
Wang Niu was taken aback; this was not the first time she had reacted like this.
"What’s wrong?" he asked.
The woman took a deep breath, her gaze complex as she looked at the compass. "Uncle Chen's location has disappeared."
Wang Niu was stunned. What did she mean by that?
"What does that mean? Didn't you say Uncle Chen's location was on that mountain?" Wang Niu looked at her in confusion.
The woman nodded and explained, "Yes, before we set off, Uncle Chen's location was indeed on that mountain. But now it’s gone, and there’s no trace of Uncle Chen on the compass anymore."
Her words left Wang Niu dumbfounded. What was happening? Where could Uncle Chen be?
The woman fell silent, and seeing her expression made Wang Niu anxious. He looked at her but didn’t know how to press for answers.
After a moment, the woman finally spoke. "Let’s keep going. Perhaps someone has hidden Uncle Chen's presence."
Hearing this, Wang Niu felt a surge of hope and followed the woman as they continued on their way.
They moved quickly, as the sun was setting and the surrounding terrain was very dark and treacherous. Even though they were cautious, danger could strike at any moment.
"We can take a break after walking for a while; there's a temple ahead," the woman turned to Wang Niu and said, only to find him staring at her. This surprised her, and she wondered if there was something terrible on her face. She touched her face and looked at Wang Niu, asking, "Is there something on my face?"
Wang Niu paused for a moment, then shook his head and replied, "No, your face is beautiful. I just think you look like someone."
Curiosity sparked within her as she asked, "Who do I look like?"
Wang Niu's lips slowly curled into a smile as he said, "Someone who could be by my side for a lifetime."
His words instantly amused the woman, filling her heart with a sweet sensation. She looked at Wang Niu and asked, "Are you serious? But don’t you think my face is ugly?"
Aren't men usually attracted to beautiful women?
Wang Niu shook his head, denying her statement. "No, that's not true."
Upon hearing his words, the woman felt a surge of anticipation. "How is that not true?"
"In my eyes, you are beautiful."
Wang Niu spoke with great certainty.
The woman smiled and lifted her head to look up at the sky. She said to Wang Niu, "Let's get to the temple first; it's getting dark. If we encounter something, it could be troublesome."
"Okay," Wang Niu replied and followed the woman as they continued walking forward. Before long, they arrived at the temple she had mentioned.
A look of joy spread across the woman's face as she exclaimed to Wang Niu, "Quick, we’re here!"
Wang Niu nodded at the woman and said, "Okay."
Just as he was about to continue walking forward, he suddenly felt a cool breeze coming from behind him. The chill made him uncomfortable, and when Wang Niu turned around, he saw Ling Er.
He was momentarily stunned and called out her name, "Ling Er!"
"What’s wrong?" The woman in front of him turned around upon hearing his voice. When she saw Ling Er appear, there was no surprise on her face; she had known all along that Ling Er had been following them.
Ling Er noticed Wang Niu looking at her, and her expression turned angry. "Do you even know what you're doing?"
Wang Niu was taken aback. He looked at Ling Er's face in astonishment. What was wrong with her?
"Wang Niu, do you really want to die at this woman's hands?" Ling Er's tone became particularly urgent.
Wang Niu was stunned again. He had never seen Ling Er so agitated before. What had happened to her?
Just as he was about to speak, the woman walked over to him and stood beside him, her gaze fixed on Ling Er.
"You think he will die at my hands?" the woman spoke.
Ling Er was taken aback; she hadn’t expected the woman to address her.
After a moment, Ling Er replied, "Isn’t it true? You will be the one to let him die."
The woman looked at Ling Er without any change in her expression. Calmly, she said, "The one who will let him die is not me; it is you. Have you forgotten?"
Ling Er's face turned pale upon hearing the woman's words. Wang Niu looked at the two of them in confusion, unable to understand a single word they were saying.
"What are you talking about? I don't understand," Ling Er said as she turned away. The woman stepped directly in front of her and said, "I know you still haven't let go of him, but you must understand, he is no longer the same person."
At this point, the woman deliberately glanced at Wang Niu, which made him feel a sudden sense of frustration.
"You're talking nonsense; he is who he is," Ling Er replied as she walked over and grabbed Wang Niu's arm.
"Ling Er, what’s going on with you two?" Wang Niu asked, looking between Ling Er and the woman.
He couldn't shake the feeling that there was something strange about their interaction.
The woman didn’t respond to Wang Niu; instead, she walked over and took hold of his other arm.
Seeing this, Ling Er pulled Wang Niu closer to her, resulting in both women tugging at him. This left Wang Niu feeling exasperated. What did he mean to these two women?
"Could you stop pulling me like this? I'm about to be tortured to death!" Wang Niu protested.
Both women froze for a moment, suddenly feeling awkward, and immediately released their grips on him.
Wang Niu sighed and helplessly said to them, "Well, since you're both here, let's go look for Uncle Chen together."
Upon hearing Wang Niu's words, Ling Er's expression shifted slightly. Wang Niu noticed this and urged her, "Let's go."
Ling Er nodded with a complex expression and followed Wang Niu inside.
Once they entered the temple, Wang Niu glanced at both women and felt even more frustrated. What was going on between them?
"Are you two okay?" he asked, sensing that it seemed like they were about to argue.
Ling Er and the woman shook their heads in response to Wang Niu's question before falling silent again.
Wang Niu felt the awkwardness settling in when suddenly a noise echoed around them, causing all three to become alert.
"What’s going on? Why are there so many Demons?" The woman stood up, her expression cautious as she looked at Ling Er.
Ling Er understood the meaning behind the woman's gaze and replied, "I didn't do anything. These Demons have nothing to do with me."
The woman scrutinized Ling Er deeply, making her feel quite uncomfortable.
"I told you I didn't bring these Demons here. Why don't you believe me?" Ling Er felt frustrated.
The woman continued to look at Ling Er with indifference before walking out.
Seeing this, Ling Er followed her outside, which only added to Wang Niu's frustration. What was going on between these two women?
Just as he was about to step out with them, Ling Er pulled him back. The woman shot him a gloomy look and said, "Don't come out. Your presence will cause us trouble."
