Ling Er nodded, but Wang Niu felt something was off. He couldn't shake the feeling that there was something wrong with her.
Noticing Wang Niu's gaze, Ling Er paused and asked, "What's wrong?"
Wang Niu quickly shook his head and inquired, "Are we coming back here?"
"Of course, let's go."
Wang Niu responded with a sound of agreement and followed Ling Er. Just then, he heard a woman's voice again.
He froze for a moment and instinctively turned around, but there was nothing behind him. This left Wang Niu puzzled; what was going on?
Ling Er, walking ahead, seemed to notice Wang Niu's behavior. She paused and asked, "What’s wrong?"
As Wang Niu was about to speak, he suddenly recalled Ling Er's expression in the Small Dark Room. He shook his head instead. Ling Er looked at him with confusion before they exited the Gym.
After walking for a while, Wang Niu suddenly stopped. He felt an eerie sense of familiarity in the air around him. Looking around, strange images flashed in his mind.
"Ah!" Suddenly overwhelmed by dizziness, Wang Niu felt immense pain in his head and crouched down.
Ling Er, who was ahead, froze upon seeing Wang Niu. Confused, she approached him and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Wang Niu blinked and shook his head. "My head hurts."
The pain intensified.
Ling Er's expression changed dramatically as she crouched down beside him, placing her hands on his head to channel energy into him. A cool sensation flowed into Wang Niu's mind, but it did not help; the pain only grew worse.
"What’s happening to you?" Ling Er was alarmed by the pallor on Wang Niu's face. She had no choice but to take him back to the Gym. Given his condition, continuing on was impossible; he might need several days to recover, which worried Ling Er greatly.
Once they arrived at the Gym, Ling Er led Wang Niu into a room. His complexion was worsening by the moment, causing her deep concern. She placed her hand on his forehead, intending to suppress his pain with her energy. However, just as she began to channel energy into him, she noticed beads of sweat forming densely on his forehead. This made Ling Er uneasy. She glanced at the suffering Wang Niu before hurriedly stepping outside.
As Wang Niu sat up, he felt a strange absence of the painful sensation that had plagued him earlier, leaving him puzzled. Sweat covered his body, and just then, he heard that familiar voice again—it was the voice of the Celestial Maiden.
This immediately filled Wang Niu with confusion. Why was it that only he could hear this woman's voice? He recalled how she had looked at him last night, tears in her eyes, and wondered why it made his heart ache.
Lost in thought, a sharp pain surged through his head, intensifying his inner turmoil.
At that moment, footsteps approached from outside. The pain in Wang Niu's head grew stronger, causing his heart to tremble. Suddenly, Ling Er's voice called out, "Master, you need to come in quickly! If this continues, he might be in serious trouble!"
The Master entered alongside Ling Er and focused on Wang Niu. Upon seeing his pained expression, he paused for a moment before turning to Ling Er and asking, "What happened to him? Wasn't he fine before?"
Ling Er shook her head in response, equally perplexed. The Master sighed and approached Wang Niu, placing his hand on his forehead. Instantly, Wang Niu felt a strange sensation wash over him. It puzzled him further—how could the blood within the Master be Yin while he was channeling Yang Qi?
Though Wang Niu had been suffering moments ago, the energy from the Master quickly alleviated his pain, leaving Ling Er astonished.
"Are you alright?" the Master asked Wang Niu. He blinked in surprise and nodded in response.
"Miss Ling Er, he's fine now. I'll take my leave," the Master said to her.
Ling Er nodded and said goodbye as she escorted the Master out. Just then, she turned back to Wang Niu with a puzzled expression. "It's really strange; there's a peculiar aura within you."
"A peculiar aura?" Wang Niu looked at her in confusion.
Ling Er nodded. "Yes, this aura is what caused your pain."
Wang Niu paused for a moment before asking her, "So does that mean we won't be looking for Uncle Chen anymore?"
Ling Er shook her head and explained to Wang Niu, "No, we need to go see, but not now. You know your body isn't up to it right now."
For some reason, hearing this made Wang Niu feel a bit happy inside.
"What are you smiling about?" Ling Er noticed the expression on his face.
Wang Niu quickly suppressed his smile and said to Ling Er, "Nothing. By the way, do you think Old Li will come looking for us?"
Upon hearing his words, Ling Er's expression immediately turned serious. It was hard to say; although they were safe here, there was no guarantee that Old Li wouldn't come after them. After thinking for a moment, Ling Er said to Wang Niu, "How about this: you take some time to think things over these next few days, and I'll take responsibility for finding Old Li."
Wang Niu was taken aback for a moment but nodded in agreement. Ling Er then left some space for him.
"Just rest well here. I'll come back to see you in a few days. Someone will bring your meals," Ling Er said.
Wang Niu responded with an "Mm," and then Ling Er left.
He closed the door, and the image of that woman appeared in his mind again. Should he go see her?
Wang Niu suddenly felt conflicted. Just then, he heard that voice again, which only piqued his curiosity further.
So, he stealthily slipped out through the window. After checking that no one was around, he stepped out of the house.
For some reason, Wang Niu felt an odd sensation in the air around him.
"Help me," the woman's voice echoed again. Wang Niu froze for a moment before quickly reacting and heading toward the source of the voice.
The woman's condition seemed to have worsened again.
Wang Niu's heart trembled involuntarily as he asked her, "What happened to your face?"
The woman was momentarily stunned. Upon hearing Wang Niu's words, she quickly covered her face, seemingly unable to look at him any longer.
In that instant, Wang Niu felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity with the woman. "Have we met before?" he asked.
The woman paused at his question, a flicker of emotion crossing her eyes, but it was something Wang Niu couldn't quite decipher. Noticing she didn't respond, he refrained from pressing further.
"What should I do? Should I save you like before?" Wang Niu said to her.
The woman hesitated for a moment before replying, "Yes."
Upon hearing her response, Wang Niu bit his finger until it bled and smeared the blood on the wall. Just like before, lines of light erupted from the wall, illuminating the space almost instantly.
"Can you come out now?" He had followed her instructions; surely it should work.
However, the woman remained inside, her gaze complex as she looked at him. This puzzled Wang Niu; something seemed off about her expression, as if there were secrets hidden in her eyes.
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" he asked gently, his tone softening unexpectedly. The woman sniffed and shook her head. "No, I'm just a bit moved. It's so nice that you've come back to save me."
Hearing this made Wang Niu's heart ache. "It's okay; hurry and come out. If Ling'er arrives, you won't be able to."
At the mention of Ling'er's name, the woman's expression changed dramatically. She looked at Wang Niu with a mix of hesitation and urgency. "Do you have something to tell me?" he asked.
The woman nodded. "Do you really trust that woman?"
Wang Niu was taken aback, unsure of what she meant—was she referring to Ling'er?
He nodded in response. Seeing this, the woman's expression shifted to one of confusion and concern. She stepped out from the small room and said urgently, "You must not trust her."
Her agitation startled Wang Niu. "Why not? Do you know Ling'er?"
The woman lowered her head, falling silent, which left Wang Niu feeling quite puzzled. He looked at her and asked, "What’s wrong with you? And who are you?"
Even though he felt a special connection to the woman before him, he still needed to clarify her identity.
"I... I am the person closest to you," she replied.
Her words instantly caught Wang Niu's attention. The closest person? Suddenly, a vague figure appeared in his mind, causing him great distress. He clutched his head tightly as the painful sensation returned.
"What’s wrong with you?" The woman seemed to notice something and hurriedly helped Wang Niu to the side.
Once seated, he felt much better. At that moment, the woman placed her hand on his head. Strangely enough, as soon as her hand touched him, Wang Niu felt a wave of relief wash over him.
This surprised Wang Niu greatly. He looked at the woman; despite the terrifying aspects of her appearance, he found her beautiful at that moment.
Noticing that Wang Niu was staring at her, the woman froze for a moment and asked, "What are you looking at?"
Wang Niu remained silent. The woman noticed his gaze lingering on her and wondered if he was frightened by her features.
She gently nudged him and asked with concern, "What are you looking at?"
Wang Niu snapped back to reality and said to her, "You’re really beautiful."
The woman was taken aback by his words. "What did you say? I'm really beautiful?"
Wang Niu's expression was serious as he nodded and replied, "Yes, you’re truly beautiful."
Hearing this, the woman’s face lit up with joy. "Are you serious?"
Wang Niu nodded again and said, "Yes, you’re really beautiful. That’s the truth! If all those things on your face were gone, you would be even more beautiful."
The expression on the woman's face suddenly darkened. Would her face ever recover?
Wang Niu noticed that the woman seemed a bit upset and asked her, "Are you worried about your face?"
The woman nodded. Wang Niu seemed to think of something and said, "Don't worry, I will find a way to heal your face."
"What did you say?" The woman looked surprised.
Wang Niu smiled at her and replied, "I said I will make sure to heal your face."
Just as the woman was about to speak, a noise came from nearby, causing Wang Niu to become cautious, wary of someone approaching.
After saying that, Wang Niu led the woman away.
"Don't make a sound," he instructed as they hid in a secluded spot. At that moment, a shadow appeared before them. As the shadow slowly approached, Wang Niu finally recognized who it was.
"How could it be Ling'er?" Wang Niu said in confusion.
The woman beside him kept her gaze fixed on him, and after a while, Ling'er left.
"Do you have feelings for this woman named Ling'er?" the woman suddenly asked him, leaving Wang Niu puzzled. What was going on with her?
Wang Niu shook his head and replied, "Not at all. She saved my life."
