Wang Niu's gaze turned complex as he caught sight of Old Li. For a moment, he was taken aback, but then Old Li suddenly stepped forward and began to rearrange the corpse. Wang Niu wanted to speak, but seeing Old Li's serious expression, he closed his mouth instead.
After a while, Old Li finished adjusting the body. Wang Niu looked at him, unsure of what to say.
Once Old Li was done, he turned to Wang Niu and asked, "How did you manage to make the corpse look like this?"
Wang Niu appeared awkward, chuckling nervously as he replied, "I... I don't really know."
Old Li shot him a glare and said, "It seems you're not cut out for this. I'll have to assign you to another place."
Wang Niu froze for a moment, his heart racing. He asked Old Li, "Master Li, what do you mean by that?"
Old Li suddenly smiled at him in a way that felt inexplicable. "Heh heh, you'll find out soon enough."
That smile left Wang Niu feeling uneasy. Soon after, Old Li walked out, and despite his reluctance, Wang Niu had no choice but to follow.
Old Li led him to the back of the Funeral Home. As they walked deeper inside, Wang Niu suddenly caught a whiff of a very pungent odor.
Moreover, the further they went in, the hotter it became.
"Master Li, where are we?" he asked in confusion.
Old Li continued walking as if he hadn't heard him at all. This left Wang Niu feeling quite frustrated; he decided it was best just to keep following Old Li.
After a while, Wang Niu suddenly spotted a door that looked rather peculiar.
Old Li paused, his gaze falling on him. "Do you know where this place is?"
Wang Niu was taken aback for a moment, lifting his head to look at the door in front of him. There was nothing on it.
He shook his head at Old Li, who then revealed a strange smile. Pointing to a large furnace inside, Old Li said, "This is a crematorium. Just place a body inside, and in a few minutes, it will turn into bones—rather, a pile of ashes."
Wang Niu was momentarily stunned, not understanding why Old Li would say such things to him.
Seeing that he remained silent, Old Li continued, "I brought you here to handle these matters. After all, this place doesn't require any technical skills."
Wang Niu finally grasped Old Li's words when suddenly, a commotion arose behind him.
Instinctively, he turned to look and saw a group of people pushing a cart toward them. Upon seeing Wang Niu, their expressions turned oddly peculiar.
"Step aside."
Old Li quickly pulled Wang Niu to the side and instructed him not to meet the eyes of the corpse.
Wang Niu was caught off guard and accidentally locked eyes with the corpse for a brief moment. In that instant, an odd sensation surged within him; he couldn't help but shudder as an overwhelming feeling of dread enveloped him.
After those people pushed the body inside, the large door in front of them closed.
"Did you just see the look in the corpse's eyes?" Old Li's tone became particularly serious.
This made Wang Niu's heart tremble. Unsure how to respond to Old Li's question, he noticed Old Li staring at him with an unsettled gaze. Suddenly, Old Li snapped at him, "Did you see it?"
Wang Niu was startled by Old Li's voice and immediately denied it.
Old Li looked at him suspiciously for a moment, then turned his gaze to the large door in front of them. "Did you see that? They are burning bodies."
Wang Niu paused for a moment, wondering if burning bodies required closing the door.
It seemed Old Li could guess his thoughts. He said to him, "Burning bodies is a serious matter. You must remember that when burning a body, the door must be closed. Otherwise, it could lead to big trouble. You know how strong the Yin Qi is in the Funeral Home. If the door is left open, the Yin Qi inside will circulate out here. When burning a body, the trapped souls within will sense the presence of Yin Qi and instinctively want to absorb it. Once they absorb enough Yin Qi, the body may experience a resurrection. At that point, there will be a lot of unnecessary trouble. Do you understand what I'm saying?"
Wang Niu nodded. After a while, strange sounds suddenly came from inside.
The sounds felt very odd, sending a shiver down Wang Niu's spine.
Old Li glanced at him but remained silent. Just then, the door suddenly swung open, and an elderly man stepped out. His gaze fell on Wang Niu and then shifted to Old Li. He began explaining something to Old Li, and soon after, several people emerged from inside. They all spoke to Old Li, which puzzled Wang Niu because he couldn't understand a single word they said.
Afterward, those people left.
"Master Old Li, what were they talking about just now?" Wang Niu asked.
Old Li glanced at Wang Niu and pushed open the door in front of him before stepping inside. Seeing this, Wang Niu followed him in. As soon as he entered, a strong smell of burnt flesh assaulted his senses.
"Cough cough." He couldn't help but cough several times.
