The old lady let out a strange laugh as she stepped closer to him. Suddenly, her face transformed into something terrifying, resembling an Evil Spirit from hell. He screamed and was about to flee when the old lady grabbed him tightly.
With a fierce look, she said to Wang Niu, "Hmph, did you really think you could escape?"
Wang Niu's heart sank. Could it be that the old lady had truly lured him here?
Panic surged through him; if that were the case, he was doomed.
Was there anyone around? It would be difficult to even shout for help. What should he do?
His heart raced like ants on a hot pan.
Just as the old lady opened her mouth wide to bite him, a gust of wind appeared from nowhere, separating the two of them.
The old lady was violently slammed against the wall. Then, Wang Niu saw swirling black mist appear before him. His heart trembled; could it be that the Demon had returned?
As he worried, the black mist suddenly vanished, revealing Ling Er's figure.
Wang Niu was taken aback. Why had Ling Er appeared out of nowhere? Was she a ghost?
He gasped and asked her, "What... what are you?"
Ling Er looked at Wang Niu with surprise and sighed. "Does it matter? I remember you had something more important to tell me, right?"
He paused for a moment; indeed, he had something significant to discuss with Ling Er. But could he still trust her?
Old Li had said Ling Er was a ghost, but deep down, he didn't want to believe Old Li's words. However, seeing her now made him realize that she truly wasn't human as Old Li had claimed.
"You have to believe me," Ling Er's voice reached him.
Wang Niu snapped back to reality, looking at Ling Er with a hesitant expression on his face. He asked her, "You told me to be careful of the people around me, but the only one here is Old Li. Are you talking about him?"
He needed to clarify this matter with Ling Er.
Ling Er's expression grew complicated. It wasn't that she was unwilling to speak; rather, once she did, she would violate their agreement. If she refused to answer, Wang Niu would surely question her.
Ling Er hesitated, and just then, a voice slowly approached. Her complexion changed, and she quickly pulled Wang Niu aside, hiding them both in a corner.
Wang Niu looked at Ling Er suspiciously. Just as he was about to speak, she covered his mouth and whispered, "Don't say anything."
Her tone was very serious, and Wang Niu immediately fell silent. As the footsteps drew nearer, he saw that it was Old Li coming toward them.
Wang Niu was taken aback. Old Li seemed to be searching for something, his gaze scanning the surroundings. This made Wang Niu anxious; what if Old Li spotted them?
He turned to Ling Er and asked if they might be discovered.
Ling Er shot him a fierce glare. "Didn't I tell you not to speak?"
Feeling awkward, Wang Niu realized that while he had been talking to Ling Er, Old Li had already moved on. Ling Er let out a sigh of relief, which gave Wang Niu the impression that she was afraid of Old Li. He asked her, "Were you scared of Old Li just now?"
Ling Er glared at him irritably. "I'm not scared of him; I'm worried he might discover you. If he does, he probably won't wait around for long before killing you."
Wang Niu was taken aback by her words. Did Old Li really have intentions to kill him all along?
But why would Old Li want to do that? After all, it was Uncle Chen who introduced him to Old Li; Uncle Chen wouldn't go so far as to harm him.
While he was lost in thought, Ling Er stepped out and said to him, "What are you still doing standing there? We need to leave."
This made him a bit awkward, and he smiled at Ling'er, saying, "Where are we going?"
Ling'er looked at him with disdain and said, "Naturally, we are here to resolve the trouble you've caused."
Wang Niu was taken aback for a moment. Ling'er pointed at him and said, "I believe that person has already informed you that you are missing a soul, right?"
Wang Niu's eyes widened instantly. How did Ling'er know about this? She didn't continue to explain but instead led him to a place he had previously visited with Old Li—a Cursed Graveyard.
Wang Niu was puzzled as he looked around and asked Ling'er, "What are we doing here?"
Ling'er looked at Wang Niu and replied, "We came here to help you find your lost soul."
Wang Niu was momentarily stunned. Did Ling'er know how to find the lost soul?
He suddenly felt excited and said to Ling'er, "That's great! Let's hurry up and find it!"
Ling'er looked at him with some helplessness and then asked, "The day before yesterday, did something happen here?"
Ling'er's question caught him off guard. He initially wanted to say no, but then he remembered something. He said to Ling'er, "I just recalled something."
Ling'er perked up immediately and asked what it was. He told her, "The day before yesterday, I accidentally stepped on a grave here."
Upon hearing his words, Ling'er froze for a moment. Then, as if she understood something, she asked him, "Which grave? Where is it?"
Seeing the serious expression on Ling'er's face, Wang Niu felt compelled to take her seriously. He led her back to the spot where the incident had occurred.
Ling'er furrowed her brows, seemingly sensing something serious was amiss, which made her feel quite worried.
"What happened? Is it serious?" Wang Niu's voice trembled.
Ling Er furrowed her brows and said to Wang Niu, "It's a bit troublesome. It's because you accidentally crushed the Demon’s home that it followed you."
Upon hearing Ling Er's words, Wang Niu seemed to understand something and asked, "So you mean, the soul on me was also consumed by it?"
Ling Er shook her head and replied, "The Demon wouldn't go so far as to eat your soul."
Wang Niu looked surprised at her. Just a moment ago, Ling Er had said that the Demon had consumed her soul; now she was saying something different.
"Ling Er, what does this mean?" Wang Niu asked.
Ling Er glanced at Wang Niu before looking around and said, "Someone is using this Demon, which is why your soul was consumed."
Wang Niu was taken aback by her words, his eyes widening in shock as he asked, "Who is that person?"
Ling Er didn't answer directly but looked deeply at him, as if hinting at something.
Wang Niu paused for a moment, then a name popped into his mind.
"Is it Old Li?" he blurted out.
Ling Er neither confirmed nor denied it. Instead, she began to dig open the Tomb in front of them, and Wang Niu's expression turned to one of surprise.
"What is this?" Wang Niu asked, looking at Ling Er in confusion.
Without responding, Ling Er continued to excavate the Tomb. Before long, they uncovered a pile of bones.
Wang Niu was momentarily stunned, questioning Ling Er about what this was.
"That's the skeleton of the Evil Spirit," Ling Er replied. Wang Niu was surprised and looked at her, saying, "Is this really the skeleton of that Evil Spirit? But what should we do now?"
Ling Er smiled and said, "You'll find out soon."
With that, she took out the pile of bones and placed it in front of him. Then, she set the bones on fire. Instantly, thick black smoke began to rise, swirling in front of Wang Niu. Soon after, he saw an Evil Spirit materialize before him.
"Step back," Ling Er's voice came through. Upon hearing this, Wang Niu quickly took a few steps back, while Ling Er positioned herself in front of him.
"Why did you consume its soul?" Ling Er asked as she conversed with the Evil Spirit.
This left Wang Niu feeling incredulous. Could the Evil Spirit understand her?
The Evil Spirit glanced at Wang Niu before shifting its gaze to Ling Er, seemingly engaged in a conversation with her.
After a moment, Ling Er appeared quite angry, and the expression of the Evil Spirit was somewhat peculiar. This puzzled Wang Niu; could it be that Ling Er truly could communicate with the Evil Spirit?
A while later, something seemed to happen to the Evil Spirit as it let out a wailing cry. This bewildered Wang Niu. He then noticed that from within the body of the Evil Spirit, a soul began to emerge. His heart trembled; why did that soul look so much like it had been taken from him?
"Ling Er, what is this?" he asked her.
At that moment, Ling Er's gaze was also fixed on the soul before them. She narrowed her eyes and said to Wang Niu, "Naturally, it's your soul."
