The man appeared extremely flustered. Feng Ju and I exchanged a glance but chose to ignore him, continuing to survey our surroundings.
Although we had just driven away the dark energy, the atmosphere around us still felt off.
Suddenly, a figure flashed past in front of me, seemingly heading toward the main door. I turned to Feng Ju and said, "Wait here, I'll go take a look."
Feng Ju nodded, and I dashed after the figure. It moved incredibly fast, and before long, it vanished from sight.
I reached the main door and was about to glance to the left when, out of nowhere, a red figure zipped past me. I quickly turned my head and was taken aback to see a woman dressed in red not far away.
I stood frozen for a moment before approaching her.
The woman had her head lowered. As I got closer, she slowly lifted her face. The instant I saw her, I was stunned; she looked just like Ruoxi.
The woman noticed my astonishment and smiled slyly as she walked toward me. For some reason, I felt a surge of nervousness. With each step she took toward me, I instinctively took a step back.
"Are you afraid of me?" she asked with a wicked grin.
I halted in my tracks, still reeling from shock. Then I replied, "No, I'm not afraid of you. Why do you—"
I didn't finish my sentence, but it seemed she understood what I meant. She said, "Are you asking why I look so much like Ruoxi?"
My heart skipped a beat. This woman actually knew Ruoxi. Did she have some connection to her?
But I couldn't recall Ruoxi ever mentioning anyone like her. Yet this woman…
Seeing my bewildered expression, the woman burst into laughter as she approached me. Leaning close to my ear, she whispered, "Do you know that there's something Ruoxi has deceived you about?"
I was taken aback by her words and replied, "What kind of trick are you playing? Who are you?"
Upon hearing my words, the woman said to me, "If you want to know who I am, just ask your good friend Ruoxi."
With that, she vanished.
I watched as the woman disappeared into the northern shadows, feeling a strange sensation in my heart. I returned to the man's residence, and just then, Feng Ju approached me. He glanced behind me and asked, "Did you see something?"
I nodded slightly but didn't elaborate. Seeing my expression, Feng Ju became anxious and said, "What's wrong?"
I sighed, recalling what the woman had just said. I replied to Feng Ju, "I might need to return to the Heavenly Court."
Feng Ju was taken aback by my words and asked, "What happened? Is there something serious going on up there?"
I shook my head and said, "This might be related to Ruoxi."
"What do you mean this is related to Ruoxi?" Feng Ju was visibly surprised.
I looked at Feng Ju with a complicated expression and recounted the woman's words to him.
After hearing this, Feng Ju's face also turned complex as he said, "Wang Jun, I think we need to ponder this matter carefully. Don't let that woman's words mislead you about Ruoxi."
I shook my head at Feng Ju and said, "No, I don't misunderstand Ruoxi. I just want to clarify things. Wait for me here; I'll go to the Heavenly Court."
With that, I ascended to the heavens. When I returned to the Southern Heavenly Gate and was about to enter, I suddenly saw Ruoxi hurriedly walking out from within.
Ruoxi's face seemed to carry a hint of panic, which sent a jolt through my heart. Could it be that Ruoxi was hiding something from me? Instinctively, I followed her.
Ruoxi descended into the mortal realm and arrived at a dark place where black mist swirled around.
Upon reaching this location, Ruoxi appeared very cautious as if she were watching something. After surveying her surroundings and ensuring it was safe, she shouted into the air, "Come out!"
At that moment, my heart trembled. I thought Ruoxi had discovered me. Just as I was about to step out, a wisp of black mist appeared before me, which instantly transformed into the woman in red that I had seen earlier.
"You’re scared," the woman said with a smile, looking at Ruoxi.
Ruoxi's face showed no expression as she replied to the woman, "Am I scared? No way. What do you want from me until death?"
The woman said, "I just met your man."
Upon hearing this, Ruoxi's body instinctively shuddered, and a hint of fear appeared on her face.
"You met him. Did you say anything to him?"
This was the first time I saw Ruoxi so flustered.
"I can guess what I told him. I told him to come find you," the woman said, revealing a sinister smile.
Ruoxi's expression grew increasingly grim as she said to the woman, "You really are despicable."
The woman glanced at Ruoxi and replied, "Despicable? That’s a bit inappropriate for you to say. If we’re talking about despicable, it should be you. We agreed that as long as I helped you, you would let me be the ruler of that world. But you forgot about this agreement and handed that world over to a man. Do you know what that is? It’s betrayal."
