The man was taken aback by my words, his eyes filled with confusion as he said, "What do you mean, Living Dead?"
I nodded at him and replied, "Yes, that's it. Living Dead is a very frightening thing. Just now, I noticed a hint of surprise and fear in your eyes. You must have a story with that woman, don't you?"
Upon hearing this, the man looked astonished but didn't continue the conversation.
Seeing him silent, I devised a plan and said, "If you don't speak up, no one in this world can save you—unless it's me."
With that, I turned to leave. The man quickly grabbed my arm and pleaded, "Don't go! If you leave, who will save me?"
I paused at the desperation in his eyes and replied, "If you want me to save you, you need to tell me what your relationship is with that woman."
The man hesitated for a moment before preparing to speak. I immediately covered his mouth and then glanced at the pile of meat on the ground.
In just a few seconds, flames erupted from that pile.
"What is that?" the man asked in confusion.
I glanced over and said, "That's my doing; it has nothing to do with you. Let's go; this isn't a place for conversation."
The man was stunned for a moment before asking, "You did this? Who exactly are you?"
I looked at him calmly and warned, "If you keep pursuing this topic, your life might be at risk."
Upon hearing this, he quickly dropped the subject and said, "I won’t ask anymore. Just follow me."
I followed him into a mansion that looked quite impressive—definitely a place where someone of high status would live.
"This is my home," he said as we reached the entrance. Two servants standing by the door greeted him respectfully, calling him "Young Master."
"Mm."
I followed the man inside, surprised to find that the decor here was quite nice.
"This place feels a bit unusual," I said lightly to the man.
He paused for a moment and replied, "You think this place is unusual?"
I nodded and glanced around. There was an air of the Miao Region surrounding us.
I seemed to understand something, so I said to him, "Soon, something will happen here. More people might die."
"What do you mean more people will die? What's going on?" The man looked shocked.
I responded, "To solve this problem, it's simple. You need to tell me your relationship with the woman from earlier."
The man looked at me with a troubled expression, but eventually spoke up, "Just follow me."
I hesitated for a moment but followed him down to the basement. As we reached the entrance, I was hit by a foul odor that made me want to gag.
"There's probably a body in this basement," I said to the man.
He seemed taken aback by my words, his eyes widening in surprise as he asked, "How did you know it was a body?"
I remained silent, and he had no choice but to open the door. As soon as it swung open, the stench intensified and assaulted my senses.
I couldn't help but vomit; the man did the same, his face turning pale.
After a while, the smell finally dissipated, and I walked inside. However, as soon as I stepped in, I was startled to see that it was the same woman lying on the board.
Moreover, there were wooden stakes piercing her body, which seemed to be some form of Evil Arts.
"This is what you had done to her," I exclaimed, my eyes widening in shock.
The man nodded and replied, "This is also to prevent her from seeking revenge on me."
I looked at the woman lying before me, deep in thought. Something felt very wrong. If this woman had already been pinned down, she shouldn't be able to appear at all. Yet here she was in the market; this indicated that she might have been cloned. Was someone trying to clone the woman's spirit?
If they were cloning spirits, then they would need to kill a living person to transfer their soul into the woman's body. In that case, the Living Dead would be successfully created.
"Master, what are you thinking?" The man asked as he noticed my contemplative expression.
I shook my head and said, "It's nothing. Just thinking about something. Tell me how you came to know this woman."
Upon hearing my question, the man sighed and said, "It's my fault for being flirtatious."
I had a feeling I already knew where this was going.
He began to recount his story.
At that time, he was wandering around City when he accidentally bumped into a young lady due to the crowd.
The girl looked different from everyone else, incredibly beautiful, and in an instant, he found himself captivated by her. However, the strange clothing she wore made him feel uneasy.
She didn’t seem like someone from around here; she resembled someone from another race.
When the man mentioned this place, I felt a wave of curiosity and asked him, "What do you mean by resembling another race?"
Upon hearing my question, the man explained, "Another race refers to people dressed in unusual clothing, somewhat like those from the western regions."
As he spoke, I began to understand and encouraged him to continue.
He nodded and said, "After bumping into this girl, things got quite serious. She couldn't move, so I helped her back to my home and treated her wounds. Plus, she was so beautiful that I couldn't help but feel drawn to her. I invited her to stay for dinner, and afterward, she told me she had nowhere to go. Her pitiful appearance stirred my sympathy. You know how it is—heroes often struggle with beautiful women—so I arranged for her to have a place to stay."
"She ended up living in the room next to mine. I treated her well, and as you can imagine, when a man and woman spend time together, feelings can develop over time, especially with someone as stunning as her."
I nodded in understanding as he continued. "Eventually, we became intimate. At first, everything felt wonderful, but as time passed, something terrifying happened that I struggled to accept."
I looked at him and noticed beads of cold sweat forming on his forehead. My heart skipped a beat as he continued, "That night, for some reason, the moon was exceptionally bright—almost like daytime. Everyone in the house was asleep, including me. She was sleeping beside me, but in the middle of the night, she suddenly disappeared. I found it strange; at that hour, where could she possibly go? I got up to look for her but stumbled upon a horrifying scene instead."
"When I stepped outside, I heard gasps of surprise. To my shock, there were sounds of something gnawing on a chicken. I crept closer and saw a familiar figure crouched in the corner."
"The silhouette looked just like her. As I approached, it indeed was her; she seemed to be eating something in the corner. When I gently tapped her on the back, I realized she was devouring a raw chicken. That wasn’t even the worst part."
At this point in his story, he fell silent, fear etched across his face.
I stared at him in confusion and asked what was wrong.
He shook his head; the terror on his face was truly alarming.
His face turned pale.
"You know, I saw her face, and it was that of a fox. She's not human," the man finally spoke after a while.
I looked at his face, which had grown serious. "What do you mean she's not human?"
The man nodded vigorously, his eyes filled with fear. "Yes, she's not human. When I saw her, I was so scared that I fainted. When I woke up the next day, I found myself lying in bed, and she was next to me. Instantly, I recalled the scene from last night. I jumped up, but my sudden movement startled her awake. She looked at me strangely and asked what was wrong."
"I noticed there was no strange expression on her face, which left me stunned. At that moment, I thought I must be dreaming."
I interjected, "So were you dreaming?"
The man quickly denied it. "How could this be a dream? Although that's what I thought at the time, in the following days, I encountered many more strange scenes. Eventually, I discovered that she was actually a monster—no, more accurately, half-human and half-monster."
I looked at him in surprise. "Are you sure?"
He nodded. "After realizing this, I tried to discuss it with her and wanted her to leave, but she refused and instead began to harm me. With no other choice, I secretly hired a master to kill her."
"And then?"
The man's gaze shifted to the corpse lying in the coffin as he pointed and said, "This is what you see."
I pondered for a moment before saying to him, "I already know about what you've told me."
The man anxiously grabbed my shoulders and asked, "Do you think there's still hope for me?"
I frowned; this situation seemed a bit troublesome. I turned to the man and said, "Don't be in such a hurry."
Before I could finish my sentence, I felt a gust of wind behind me. I turned to look, and there was Feng Ju.
The man jumped back in shock at the sight of Feng Ju, his eyes wide as if he had seen a ghost. He stumbled back a few steps and stammered, "Are you... are you human or a ghost?"
Feng Ju shot him an annoyed glance and replied, "I am Master."
Seeing Feng Ju's demeanor made me unable to suppress a laugh. I turned to the man and said, "Don't be afraid; Feng Ju is my friend."
Upon hearing this, the man finally relaxed a bit, though he still looked somewhat frightened.
"What happened?" I asked Feng Ju.
Feng Ju furrowed his brow. "I chased after her; it's a woman controlling that woman."
I thought for a moment and then asked Feng Ju, "Is the woman you're talking about dressed strangely?"
Feng Ju paused for a second before responding, "You're right; that woman is indeed dressed very strangely, and her aura is similar to hers."
As he spoke, Feng Ju pointed toward the woman lying on the bed.
I looked over, and the man's gaze followed mine.
"Did you let something slip?" I asked the man.
The man was taken aback when he saw me speaking to him, and it took him a moment to respond. "I didn't," he said. "This woman came here alone; she wasn't with anyone."
His words left me puzzled. According to what Feng Ju had just said, it meant that the deceased woman had family.
"Alright, everyone, please step outside," I said after glancing at the body.
They nodded and walked out.
"Masters, do you have anywhere to go? If not, you can stay here," the man offered us.
I looked deeply at him and understood his intentions; he wanted us here to protect him.
However, Feng Ju and I had other purposes as well, so I replied to the man, "Yes, that would be fine."
Upon hearing my response, the man's face lit up with joy. "That's great! I'll make arrangements right away."
After he left, Feng Ju glanced at him and then turned to me. "Wang Jun, I think this matter involves a lot more than we realize. It might even connect to the world I was in before."
Feng Ju's words shocked me. I turned to him and asked, "Are you suggesting that woman is from your world?"
Feng Ju's expression was uncertain as he replied, "That's just a guess on my part."
