The atmosphere was tense as Feng Ju stood directly in front of me, clearly anxious about the potential actions of the Evil Spirits.
I sensed that Feng Ju was overly worried, so I reassured her, "Don't worry, those Evil Spirits won't harm us."
However, my words did little to ease her tension; instead, she became even more vigilant and conjured a protective barrier around us.
Seeing Feng Ju's anxious demeanor made me smile. At that moment, the Evil Spirits approached us. Their eyes held no malice, only a hint of gratitude, and they knelt before us.
"Thank you," one of them said. "If it weren't for your mercy, we wouldn't have been able to take our revenge."
Feng Ju was momentarily taken aback, struggling to understand the meaning behind the Evil Spirits' words.
"What are you doing?" she asked them.
The Evil Spirits lifted their heads, their eyes still filled with appreciation. "We are here to thank you."
With that, they transformed into wisps of black mist and vanished before our eyes.
Feng Ju was stunned by this sight, unable to believe that the Evil Spirits had disappeared in such a manner.
"They have passed on," I nodded at Feng Ju. She acknowledged my statement with a quiet "yes" and fell silent.
I glanced at Concubine's lifeless form before turning to Feng Ju. "Let's go. It's already dawn, and the Ghost Festival has ended."
Feng Ju looked at Concubine's body and nodded in agreement.
Just as we were about to leave, we heard the distant sounds of drums and gongs, accompanied by echoes of weeping.
"It seems that something unusual is happening," Feng Ju said to me.
I turned my gaze in the direction of the commotion and saw a large group of people approaching from the left.
Feng Ju's expression stiffened as he said, "Wang Jun, it looks like a Ghost Marriage procession."
I was taken aback and replied, "Ghost Marriage? Are you sure? This violates the rules between heaven and earth; it's not allowed. Who would dare to do such a thing?"
I felt a surge of anger, surprised that someone in the human realm would dare to engage in such practices.
"Wang Jun, look! What is that old woman holding?" Feng Ju pointed to an elderly lady.
I looked over and saw that the old woman was holding a Black-and-White Photo, which depicted a man. I suspected that this Ghost Marriage must be related to him.
"Feng Ju, quickly take out the Life and Death Register and check," I instructed. Feng Ju paused for a moment, then understood and immediately retrieved the Life and Death Register. After a while, his expression suddenly changed.
"What’s wrong?" I asked, noticing something was off with Feng Ju. I quickly realized there must be an issue with the Life and Death Register.
"Wang Jun, I just checked and found that there is no record of that man's death in the Life and Death Register," Feng Ju said, panic evident in his voice.
I furrowed my brow; this was impossible. If there was no record of this man's death in the Life and Death Register, then he could not be dead.
Could it be that this man died but used Evil Arts to evade judgment from the Underworld?
Or perhaps he was still alive in the human realm?
"Wind Lord, I'm afraid there's something going on here. We need to follow these people and find out," I said to Feng Ju.
Feng Ju nodded and said, "I think so too."
After greeting Feng Ju, I followed behind the group of people. After walking for a while, they stopped at a certain place, which seemed to be on a mountain.
At the foot of this mountain, there was a Stone Tomb.
"Wang Jun, do you see the black mist in the tomb? It's not very obvious, but can you see it?" Feng Ju pointed at the Stone Tomb and asked me.
I nodded. Although the black mist on the Stone Tomb wasn't very noticeable, I sensed that there was definitely some hidden energy of Evil Arts within it.
Just as Feng Ju and I were talking, a middle-aged woman's voice came from nearby. "Quickly bring the bride up here!"
As soon as her voice fell, Feng Ju and I saw two strong men pulling the bride out from the Palanquin. The bride was dressed in a wedding gown, but her body was covered in talismans.
"This is bad. Those are Yin Gathering Talismans; they can bind a deceased Yin Person to the bride," Feng Ju said.
No sooner had Feng Ju finished speaking than we heard the sound of the Stone Tomb being opened. The woman made the bride bow to the man's tombstone and then shoved a photo of the man into her hands before pushing her inside.
"No! I don't want to go in!" the bride cried out.
In an instant, the stone door slammed shut, locking the bride inside the tomb. Seeing this, Feng Ju and I stepped into the graveyard. We didn't reveal ourselves but wanted to see what was happening.
As the bride cried and protested, suddenly, the tomb lit up brightly.
The bride nearly fainted at this sight.
"Hehe," a chilling laugh echoed from within, causing the bride to shudder involuntarily as she cautiously stepped inside.
I had been following the bride with Feng Ju when I noticed something terrifying as she entered. A wisp of black mist appeared above her head.
"What is that?" I asked Feng Ju, pointing at the dark aura surrounding the bride.
Feng Ju furrowed his brow and replied, "That's a mark of being targeted by the dead. Tonight, this bride is doomed."
Hearing Feng Ju's words sent a chill through me. It seemed that man was indeed a ruthless character.
"Regardless, we must save this bride," I said to Feng Ju.
"Yes, that's right," he agreed.
As we spoke, the bride had already walked into the center of the graveyard, where the man's corpse lay. Just as she took another step forward, a noise suddenly came from the coffin, echoing ominously.
The bride was so frightened that she fell to the ground, dropping the photo she had been holding.
"Ha ha, who gave you permission to throw my photo on the ground? You really want to die, don't you?" A sinister male voice emerged from the coffin.
The bride's face turned even paler as she continued to back away. Suddenly, the lid of the coffin was violently thrown open, crashing to the ground with a loud thud that startled her.
Before long, wisps of black mist began to seep out from inside the coffin.
"Wang Jun, look! The black mist from the coffin is the man's restless spirit. His soul is about to emerge," Feng Ju said.
I nodded and slowly focused my gaze on the swirling black mist.
In no time at all, the mist began to take shape, forming into a figure of a man.
"Wang Jun, look, isn't that the minister who died before?" Feng Ju pointed at the man and said to me.
I was taken aback; I had no idea who this minister was. Seeing my confusion, Feng Ju seemed to understand something and continued, "Wang Jun, here's the thing. Some time ago, Yin Chai told me they found a minister's ghost, but they didn't know where it had gone. I thought it was strange, so I went to search in the human realm. Unexpectedly, the result was the same as Yin Chai's—no one knew where this minister's ghost had gone. I never expected that this man would turn out to be that missing ghost."
I remained puzzled and shook my head at Feng Ju. "I'm still not clear on what kind of minister this is."
Feng Ju glanced at the man before turning his gaze back to me. "The situation is like this: this minister held significant power during his lifetime. However, he gradually became consumed by his desires, relentlessly exploiting the common people. Not only that, he took many beautiful daughters from poor families into his residence. His methods were extremely cruel; every daughter who entered his household would be carried out by servants within a day."
At this point, Feng Ju paused, and the hatred in his eyes became more evident. I hesitated before asking him what happened to those women.
Feng Ju's expression darkened further. "Those women were all brutally tortured to death by the minister."
Hearing Feng Ju's words sent a chill down my spine; I couldn't believe how hateful this minister could be.
Feng Ju continued, "As time went on, more and more daughters from various families fell victim to this minister's cruelty. They banded together to petition the emperor. Coincidentally, the emperor was on a secret visit and learned about the situation. He became furious and immediately ordered action against this minister."
After saying this, Feng Ju fell silent; I already knew what happened next.
At that moment, the man slowly approached the bride, his eyes filled with malice. The bride noticed the malevolence in his gaze and was instantly terrified. She stood up, trying to escape, but the man's lips curled into a cold smile as he reached out his hand. A mass of black mist shot out immediately, ensnaring the bride tightly without giving her any chance to struggle.
