As I finished speaking, the old woman's face turned pale with fear.
This only deepened the confusion in my heart and Feng Ju's. Did that woman know that the old woman was aware of her secret?
"I was completely blindsided. Those people thought I was just playing tricks on them, so they ignored me. But one night, I saw the place where the woman lived again, and it shocked me. I reported it, but the result was always the same; those people couldn't see that place at all. Over time, everyone thought I was crazy and stopped trusting me."
"I felt helpless and desperate. I had no choice but to subdue this woman. If she didn't die, my daughter would be in danger. I couldn't bear to see my daughter continue like this. So, I sought help from a powerful person and learned how to deal with her, but it failed. When she found out, she struck back at me, taking away half a year of my life. That's why I ended up like this. Not only that, but she also targeted my daughter, retaliating against all the bad things she had done to me onto her. Everything you’ve seen was her doing. At this point, the old woman fell silent.
My heart became complicated; I never expected such things could happen.
I walked up to the old woman and placed my hand on her head. It felt like she had lost half of her lifespan. My brow furrowed; it seemed this old woman was not truly old, and what she said was indeed true.
I nodded at Feng Ju, who returned the gesture.
Then Feng Ju called for Yin Soldier. "Go bring Bai Susu from the thirteenth floor."
Yin Soldier acknowledged and went to fetch Bai Susu.
Upon hearing this, the old woman's expression grew excited. "Are you going to release my Su Su?"
"Not yet. We need to investigate this matter thoroughly before we can release her," Feng Ju replied seriously.
"Alright, as long as you're willing to investigate, I can rest easy," the old woman sighed deeply and sat down on the ground.
Before long, Bai Susu was brought over by Yin Soldier.
"Su Su!" The moment the old woman saw her daughter, she rushed forward. Bai Susu froze for a moment upon seeing the old woman, seemingly not recognizing her.
"Su Su, I'm your mother!" The old woman's heart sank at Bai Susu's reaction.
"You... you are my mother?" Bai Susu looked incredulous and then tears streamed down her face.
"My good child Su Su!" The old woman embraced her tightly.
"Mother, tell me how you ended up like this! Did that woman do something to you?" Bai Susu's face suddenly filled with anger.
Upon hearing Bai Susu's words, the old woman sighed and said, "Su Su, we have no power to deal with her. If it weren't for the help of a powerful person, how could I have come to the Underworld to find you?"
Bai Susu's face immediately showed sadness upon hearing the old woman's words.
"Yama, please help us," she said, and then her gaze fell upon us. I noticed a flicker in her eyes, as if she had realized something.
As soon as those words left her lips, the old woman knelt down and bowed her head to me and Feng Ju.
I remained silent, while Feng Ju wore a complex expression. After a moment, she helped the old woman up and agreed to assist them.
"However, you must promise me one thing," Feng Ju said, looking at them seriously.
Upon hearing Feng Ju's words, they nodded in agreement. "Alright, we promise you."
Seeing their agreement, Feng Ju nodded in satisfaction and turned to the old woman. "You need to understand that Bai Susu has already become a ghost. It is impossible for her to return to the human realm. Even if this matter is resolved, she will still have to stay in the Underworld because the death energy surrounding her is too strong. If she were to return to the human realm, it could lead to serious consequences. So, you must be mentally prepared for this."
The old woman's face changed drastically upon hearing my words. She looked at Bai Susu with deep sorrow and said, "My dear daughter, I really don't want to part with you."
Bai Susu also appeared sad as she replied, "Mother, don't worry. I believe we will meet again. I will wait for you down below. Rest assured."
"Alright," the old woman seemed to come to terms with it.
Watching their expressions, I said to Feng Ju, "Since we need to take care of this matter, let's get going."
Feng Ju nodded and said to the old woman, "Let's go; time waits for no one."
After hearing Feng Ju's words, the old woman bid farewell to Bai Susu, and we took her back to the human realm.
"Do you know where that woman is now?" I asked the old woman.
She nodded and replied, "Follow me."
I followed the old woman along with Feng Ju, noticing that we were venturing deeper into the mountains. As we walked, I observed the surroundings and realized there seemed to be many Vengeful Spirits here.
“Feng Ju, do you feel it?” I asked.
Feng Ju nodded and replied, “Yes, there are a lot of Vengeful Spirits here. It seems this woman has harmed quite a few people.”
The old woman, who was walking ahead of us, stopped upon hearing our conversation. She turned to us and said, “You’re right; this woman has indeed harmed many. I hope you can resolve this issue so that no more people will be hurt.”
“Don’t worry,” I assured the old woman.
She smiled and continued walking deeper into the woods. After a while, she stopped again and pointed at a small house in front of us. “Look, that’s the place where she lives.”
“Wait, what? I don’t see anything,” Feng Ju said, puzzled.
The old woman looked taken aback by Feng Ju's words, staring at us in disbelief. “You can’t see it? How is that possible?”
Feng Ju insisted, “I really can’t see it.”
Hearing this made me furrow my brows. The old woman was telling the truth; there was indeed a house in front of us. The reason Feng Ju couldn’t see it was that the house had been concealed by the Evil Arts cast by that woman.
If someone like Feng Ju couldn’t see it, then ordinary people certainly wouldn’t be able to.
I turned to Feng Ju and placed my hand over her eyes. “The reason you can’t see it is simple: the house is hidden.”
“What do you mean, Wang Jun? That’s impossible!” Feng Ju exclaimed in surprise.
I understood her shock and reassured her, “Just wait a moment; you’ll be able to see it soon.”
After saying that, I lowered my hand and said to Feng Ju, "Take another look."
Feng Ju looked at me in confusion, then turned his gaze toward the house in front of us. In an instant, his expression changed to one of surprise. "How could this be?"
"I mentioned before that this woman has set up Evil Arts in that area. These Evil Arts are incredibly powerful; unless someone has significant cultivation, they wouldn't even notice it. Plus, you've been in the Underworld for so long that you wouldn't feel it at all."
Feng Ju pondered for a moment, then nodded at me. "So that's how it is."
"Do we still need to go over there?" the old woman asked us.
I shook my head. Even if we went over, it wouldn't change much. Right now, we just needed to figure out who that woman was.
As we were talking, an unusual presence suddenly enveloped the surroundings.
