"Then you'll have to figure it out yourself. Why were you not by my side during the imperial succession ceremony?" I questioned the Earth God.
Upon hearing my words, the Earth God looked aggrieved and replied, "Heavenly Emperor, it's not that I didn't want to be there. It's just that a lot has happened recently, and I've been stuck guarding a village."
Seeing the Earth God's helpless expression, I asked what had happened in the village.
The Earth God sighed and said, "I don't know what's going on, but in this village, all the newborns are dead infants. The villagers found this very strange and reported it to me. Since I am served by all the villagers there, I naturally had to respond. So I've been keeping watch over the village constantly, but I've gained nothing from it. If this continues, the villagers will stop believing in me. Therefore, I trouble you, Heavenly Emperor, to help me investigate."
I twitched my lips in frustration. "Are you asking me to do your work for you?"
The Earth God was startled and quickly said, "No, no! Heavenly Emperor, please don't misunderstand. That's not what I meant; I just need your assistance."
I looked at the Earth God’s helpless face and said, "I can agree to help you. However, you must agree to one request of mine: I will help you resolve the issues in that small village, but you must go with Celestial Child when it comes time for the imperial matters. What do you think?"
The Earth God paused for a moment after hearing my words and nodded in agreement. "That works. But Heavenly Emperor, given the combined strength of Celestial Child and myself, we won't be able to defeat those monsters."
I had already considered this issue raised by the Earth God. After thinking for a moment, I bestowed some Divine Power upon him.
"Wow, thank you, Heavenly Emperor!" The Earth God looked incredibly grateful.
I nodded and instructed Celestial Child to accompany the Earth God.
After they left, I made my way to the village mentioned by the Earth God. As soon as I arrived, I sensed a malevolent aura that enveloped the entire village.
It seemed this evil presence had lingered in the village for quite some time. How could the Earth God not have noticed it?
As I walked into the village, I saw that the expressions on the villagers' faces were filled with despair; they seemed utterly demoralized.
Suddenly, I felt an eerie atmosphere surrounding me. Using my celestial energy, I activated my heavenly eye. What I saw nearly shocked me.
Each of these villagers had a terrifying Evil Spirit clinging to their backs.
I immediately sensed something was wrong; this type of Evil Spirit was extremely vicious and usually locked away in hell. How could it appear here?
Without hesitation, I summoned Feng Ju through telepathy. Feng Ju appeared by my side.
"What’s wrong?" Feng Ju looked at me with a puzzled expression.
I pointed at the food in front of me and said to Feng Ju, "Look at this. What do you think it is?"
Feng Ju turned to look in the direction I was pointing and was instantly stunned. "What is this? How could it appear in this village?"
Seeing Feng Ju's bewildered face, I asked, "Don’t you know this escaped from hell?"
Feng Ju was taken aback by my words. "Wang Jun, are you saying these things came from hell?"
I nodded at Feng Ju and pointed to the sky above the small village. "Just take a look."
Feng Ju raised his head, and suddenly his eyes widened in disbelief. "This... this is the aura of the Demon King!"
Feng Ju's words immediately caught my attention. I quickly asked him, "What did you say? The Demon King? What does that mean?"
Feng Ju's face fell into a state of guilt as he said, "It must be that when we took the little fox down to hell that day, we didn’t close the gate properly, which allowed these things to escape."
"If that's the case, then I understand where the problems in this village are coming from. It must be that the Demon King absorbed all the essence of the infants before they were born."
Upon hearing this, Feng Ju's expression changed dramatically, looking regretful as he said, "We should have noticed this earlier. We should have been more careful back then; now it’s a big problem."
I glanced at Feng Ju and realized that the Demon King must be lurking in this village without showing itself. To eliminate the Demon King, we would have to wait until nightfall.
"Feng Ju, I’ve thought of a plan that requires your cooperation," I said to him.
Upon hearing my words, Feng Ju immediately perked up, looking excited as he asked, "Wang Jun, just tell me what to do; I’ll follow your lead."
I nodded and instructed Feng Ju to summon Ox-Head and Horse-Face.
At Feng Ju's call, Ox-Head and Horse-Face appeared. I looked at them and began to explain.
"Understood, Heavenly Emperor. You can rest assured," they replied before vanishing.
Feng Ju glanced at them and then turned to me. "Wang Jun, what do I need to do?"
I looked at Feng Ju, who appeared anxious, and said, "Don't worry. From now on, your role is the most important. Do you know what we need to successfully lure out the Demon King?"
Feng Ju looked at me with a smile on his face but couldn't help shivering as he said, "Wang Jun, I have this feeling that you're going to trick me."
Seeing Feng Ju's cautious demeanor, I couldn't help but laugh. "Am I really that kind of person?"
Feng Ju shook his head in response. "No."
"Well then, isn't that good? I just want you to pretend to be pregnant," I explained.
"Pregnant? Wang Jun, are you asking me to become a woman?" Feng Ju looked surprised.
I nodded and, without waiting for Feng Ju's consent, transformed him into a woman.
Upon seeing the change, Feng Ju was startled and exclaimed, "Wang Jun, this is too ugly! Why didn't you make me look more beautiful? The Demon King will be so shocked by my appearance that he might not even dare to approach me!"
I thought Feng Ju's reaction was exaggerated and replied, "It's fine. Trust me; the Demon King will definitely take action because you're too ugly. These demons prefer something a little grotesque; it makes what they absorb more valuable."
Feng Ju looked at me with confusion, seemingly weighing whether my words were true or false.
"Alright, stop hesitating. I'm going in with you," I said, transforming into Feng Ju's husband and helping her walk to a nearby house.
"Excuse me, can we stay here for a night?" I asked a villager who was focused on the ground.
Upon hearing my voice, the villager looked up at me and Feng Ju. His gaze suddenly fixated on Feng Ju's belly, and his face turned pale as he stammered, "Y-you... she's pregnant?"
I nodded at the villager's terrified expression and said, "Yes, she is indeed pregnant. Is there something wrong? You seem a bit flustered."
The villager gasped and pulled us into the house with a cautious demeanor. Feng Ju glanced at the villager and then at me, silently mouthing, "There's something wrong."
I naturally knew there was a problem, so I nodded at Feng Ju and then asked the villagers what was going on.
The villager glanced at me and said, "You don’t know? This village is haunted, and it specifically targets pregnant women. You should leave quickly and not stay here overnight; otherwise, something terrible could happen."
Seeing the villager's cautious demeanor, I believed him. However, we had come to deal with the Demon King, so how could we leave?
"Don't worry, it's fine," I reassured the villager and handed him some money.
Noticing my firm attitude, the villager didn’t press further. Instead, he arranged for us to have a room to stay in. Before leaving, he specifically warned us not to go outside no matter what sounds we heard during the night.
After the villager left, Feng Ju sat down with difficulty, rubbing her belly. Looking at her, I couldn’t help but laugh and said, "Feng Ju, you’ve really turned into a proper pregnant woman."
Feng Ju shot me an annoyed glare and replied, "You’re one to talk! This is all your doing!"
I awkwardly chuckled but didn’t engage in banter with Feng Ju any further; instead, we waited for nightfall.
Time passed slowly. I looked at Feng Ju and teasingly asked, "Are you scared? You look like you’re not feeling well."
Feng Ju rolled her eyes at me and said, "This isn’t just looking unwell; it’s clearly pregnancy symptoms. Why don’t you try it?"
I had no choice but to remain silent. By this time, it was already night. Feng Ju and I cautiously observed our surroundings when suddenly we heard a strange sound.
I carefully approached the window to take a look outside and saw a mass of black mist slowly approaching us from a distance. I turned to Feng Ju and said, "That thing is coming."
Feng Ju nodded and lay down on the bed. I activated my invisibility and concealed my presence as well.
At that moment, the door to our room suddenly swung open.
I widened my eyes in shock as I heard footsteps gradually drawing closer to us. Soon after, I noticed footprints appearing on the ground, slowly approaching Feng Ju.
Before long, I saw swirling black mist rising from the floor.
I stared in disbelief as the mist transformed into a woman.
This woman looked extremely grotesque. I watched as she extended her hand, and in no time at all, her fingers morphed into sharp claws.
I couldn't help but feel a shock. If she continued like this, Feng Ju would surely die at her hands.
My heart tightened with anxiety.
Feng Ju had her eyes closed, pretending to be asleep, but she was aware that a woman, the Demon Queen, had approached her.
However, this woman was very cautious. She directed her gaze towards Feng Ju's belly and then looked at Feng Ju herself. She extended her hand, seemingly testing something.
Suddenly, I noticed a slight change in the woman's expression, which made my heart sink. Could it be that she had figured something out?
The woman abruptly walked over to the window and took a deep breath of air. Instantly, her face turned even paler.
I watched her actions with confusion. Was she trying to absorb the aura from us?
But we had already concealed our presence; how could she possibly sense us?
Then I saw the woman walking step by step toward me, her gaze fixed in my direction.
I frowned; this Demon Queen was indeed formidable.
I tightened my own aura again. By this time, the woman had reached me and took another deep breath. A look of uncertainty appeared on her face.
Observing her expression, I concluded that this woman had a keen sensitivity and could detect that someone was present from just a hint of aura moments ago.
After a moment, the expression on the woman's face softened slightly, as if she had relaxed. She then moved closer to Feng Ju.
I watched as she placed her hand on Feng Ju's belly and gently cut it open. In an instant, I saw a baby emerge from Feng Ju's womb.
Upon seeing the baby, the woman's face lit up with joy as she eagerly absorbed the life force emanating from it. At that moment, I finally understood why dead infants were born in this village.
After absorbing the baby's life force, the woman placed the infant back into Feng Ju's belly. This scene truly astonished me; it seemed to align perfectly with my earlier thoughts.
