I shook my head. This wasn't an illusion; it was just a scene I had seen earlier, created by that Monster. Now that the Monster was dead, naturally, the illusions from before had vanished.
"Hey, look over there!" Feng Ju exclaimed, her gaze fixed intently ahead.
Following Feng Ju's line of sight, I saw a long black river stretching out before us. To get to the other side, we would need a boat, but there were none nearby, which left us in a bit of a predicament.
However, something seemed to be appearing in the middle of the Black River—a white snake.
"What is that?" I said, surprised.
Upon hearing our words, the little fox also turned to look at the center of the Black River. When she spotted the White Snake, she said to us, "That is the guardian spirit of this Black River. If we want to cross, we must subdue this guardian spirit and persuade her to take us across willingly."
I thought for a moment. It seemed that the White Snake was aware of our presence, continuously swimming back and forth on the water's surface, even casting glances in our direction.
"Wang Jun, I feel like this White Snake wants to make some kind of deal with us," Feng Ju remarked as she observed the White Snake.
I nodded and walked toward the riverbank. The little fox hurriedly stopped me, saying, "Master, you can't go over there by yourself! If this White Snake harms you, it would be troublesome!"
Seeing the little fox's worried expression, I reassured her, "It's fine. You don't need to worry."
The little fox fell silent upon hearing my words. I continued walking toward the riverbank. As soon as the White Snake noticed me approaching, it leaped out of the Black River and came right in front of me.
"You wish to cross?" Suddenly, the White Snake spoke to me.
I nodded in response and affirmed with a simple "Yes."
The White Snake regarded me thoughtfully for a moment before saying, "If you want to cross, it won't be easy."
I nodded but remained silent. The White Snake gave me a complex look; I could tell she had something more to say. She initially intended to continue speaking but appeared awkward when she saw that I wasn't responding.
"If you need me to help you cross, I can assist," the White Snake finally offered.
I smiled at her and said, "Sure. What are your conditions?"
I spoke frankly, and to my surprise, White Snake's expression turned awkward upon hearing it. Perhaps she didn't expect me to be so straightforward.
"Hello there, I do have a request. However, this request shouldn't be much for you. I know your identities," White Snake said to me.
I nodded, not doubting or being surprised by her words at all. After all, this White Snake had become the guardian spirit of Black River, which indicated she possessed some level of skill.
"Does that mean you agree?" White Snake looked at me uncertainly.
I nodded again and said, "Yes, that counts as an acknowledgment."
White Snake's face lit up with joy as she said, "Good! Since that's the case, I won't hold back. I can take you over there, but once you arrive, you must help me break the restraints on me."
"What do you mean by restraints?" I asked, looking at White Snake with confusion.
As the guardian spirit of Black River, could there really be any restraints on her?
Seeing my puzzled expression, a hint of discomfort crossed White Snake's face, and her gaze turned sorrowful. I felt a wave of curiosity—was this a White Snake with a story?
After a moment, White Snake finally spoke, "It turns out I'm not just a White Snake. I am a Flower Spirit. Many years ago, this place was not like this."
With that, she looked around with a face full of regret. I was taken aback—this place wasn't like this?
White Snake seemed to sense my thoughts and waved her hand casually. Suddenly, the surroundings transformed into something entirely different.
When I saw the scene conjured by White Snake, I couldn't help but gasp in astonishment; it was incredibly beautiful.
Everywhere were blooming flowers, vibrant and close at hand.
"But why did this place change?" My curiosity was piqued.
Upon hearing my question, White Snake appeared even more sorrowful. I glanced at Feng Ju beside me; he wore a complex expression as well.
"Go ahead and tell us," I urged White Snake.
In that moment, everyone's attention was focused on her as we awaited her story.
"Taking a deep breath, the White Snake said, 'So I am the Flower Demon Princess here. I have my own beloved, who is also a Flower Spirit. We are a perfect match, and the monsters living here all think so. But one day, everything changed. Suddenly, a very domineering Water Snake appeared—this Water Snake you see before you. After I arrived, it destroyed everything here, turning it into what you now see as the Black River. Before that, this Water Snake forced me to change my true form, forcibly merging me with it. I was furious and wanted to resist, but the Water Snake threatened me, saying that if I didn't become one with it, it would kill my beloved. To protect my beloved, I had no choice but to agree to the Water Snake. However, it did not keep its promise; right after I agreed, it killed my beloved. After my beloved was killed by the Water Snake, I was heartbroken and thought about killing the Water Snake.'
'We are a community; it appears at night while I am present during the day. So during the day, I tried every possible way to kill this Water Snake, but I still couldn't manage it, which made me very sad. Perhaps heaven took pity on me because one day an old woman suddenly appeared here. She told me how to get rid of this Water Snake successfully. I managed to eliminate the Water Snake, but I couldn't escape from this Black River. When I asked the old woman about it, she told me that I was cursed by the Water Snake and needed someone to break the shackles on me.'
As she finished speaking, the White Snake looked at us with a very obvious expression.
I gazed at the White Snake and pondered who exactly this old woman was.
'Can you tell me who this old woman is?' I asked.
The White Snake shook her head and replied with an expression of uncertainty, 'Actually, I don't know who she is either. She told me that in a few days someone would come here who could break my shackles—and that person is you.'
I was somewhat surprised. Could this old woman be some kind of expert?
'So, have you made up your mind?' The White Snake looked at me.
Since crossing this Black River definitely required the help of the White Snake, without her assistance, none of us three would be able to make it across.
'Alright, I agree to help you; however, I have one request.'
'What is it?' The White Snake looked at me curiously.
I said to the White Snake, 'We will help you break your shackles after we resolve this matter. How does that sound?'
Upon hearing my words, the White Snake hesitated for a moment as if considering what I had said.
'Wang Jun,' Feng Ju pulled me aside and whispered to me, 'I don't think White Snake will agree to that.'
Honestly, I was worried too; however, since I had already spoken up, it was up to how the White Snake would respond."
After a while, White Snake nodded and agreed to my request, a faint smile appearing at the corner of my mouth.
"Since that's the case, turn into a bridge so we can cross," I said to White Snake.
White Snake was quite straightforward, showing no hesitation at all. She immediately transformed into a bridge, and the three of us walked across it.
It took us quite some time to reach the other side.
Once we arrived safely, White Snake transformed back and said, "I'll wait for your return."
I nodded at White Snake to reassure her that we would keep our promise. Then, we left that place and headed to our destination.
"Master, look! This is the place where no one can survive," the little fox pointed to a barren land in front of us.
I looked over; the wasteland appeared quite vast.
"Wang Jun, it seems like there is too much death energy here," Feng Ju remarked.
I nodded. This place did not resemble the Underworld. If there was too much death energy here, survival would be impossible.
"Do you have any thoughts?" I asked Feng Ju.
Feng Ju gazed at the wasteland and pondered before saying, "I think I have an idea."
My eyes lit up as I quickly asked what her idea was. Feng Ju smiled and said, "We can transport this death energy to the Underworld. Wang Jun, don't forget that the Underworld really needs this energy."
"You're right! How did I not think of that? Alright, let's do as you suggested," I replied with excitement.
Seeing my agreement, Feng Ju immediately got to work, starting to transport the death energy from this place to the Underworld. To make it easier for Feng Ju, I pulled the little fox back a step. The little fox watched Feng Ju's actions with curiosity and asked me, "Master, what were you just talking about? How can you transport this death energy to the Underworld? I've heard there are Yama in the Underworld; aren't you afraid of offending him?"
I couldn't help but smile at the little fox's words. I wondered what expression would cross its face if it knew that the person standing before it was the King of the Underworld.
"Master, why are you laughing? Did I say something wrong?" the little fox asked, puzzled.
I shook my head and reassured the little fox that everything was fine.
While I was speaking with the little fox, Feng Ju had already transported half of the dead energy to the Underworld. Now only half remained. If this piece of land could be utilized, then there would be no reason for the demon realm to commit further offenses.
"What are you doing?" Suddenly, a brazen voice came from behind us.
The corners of my mouth lifted slightly; without even looking, I knew that the New Demon Lord had arrived.
"What do you think we're doing?" I turned to face the New Demon Lord.
The Little Demon Lord looked surprised to see me and Feng Ju here. After a moment, the New Demon Lord spoke, "You’re here to help me."
It must have seen Feng Ju removing the dead energy.
I nodded and said to the New Demon Lord, "I don't want to fight you. After all, it's your mortals who are getting hurt, as well as those in the human realm. This isn't good for any of us. That's why I specifically came to your demon realm to understand the situation and offer my assistance."
Upon hearing my words, the Little Demon Lord's expression seemed somewhat complicated as it replied, "Hmph, don’t think that means I’ll be grateful to you."
With that, the New Demon Lord turned and left.
"Master, who exactly are you?" The little fox's eyes widened in disbelief as it looked at me and Feng Ju with an exaggerated expression.
"Just as you said, I'm your Master."
The little fox shook its head, looking at me with skepticism.
At that moment, Feng Ju had transferred all the death energy into the Underworld. Seeing that the situation was resolved, I waved my hand, transforming this place into a realm similar to the Demon World.
Feng Ju retracted her Divine Power and walked towards me, glancing at the scene before her. "Wow, Wang Jun, you are so kind to the Demon World. You even helped them create this kind of environment."
The little fox looked equally stunned. Suddenly, it knelt before me and Feng Ju. "Master, please allow your little disciple to pay my respects."
After saying that, the little fox quickly knelt several times in front of both of us.
Feng Ju and I were momentarily taken aback. What was this little fox trying to do?
"What are you doing?" I asked the little fox, puzzled.
With a beaming expression, the little fox replied, "I'm paying my respects to my master! Anyway, I don't care; I've acknowledged you both as my masters, so you can't reject me!"
"Heh, this little fox is quite clever," Feng Ju said with a proud expression. "However, we don't intend to take you on as our disciple."
