Ruoxi gave me a triumphant look, and I couldn't help but smile. However, I truly felt reluctant to part ways. Yet, for the sake of the matter at hand, I had no choice but to proceed.
I left Li Manor and continued my search for the baby that had just cried out. I arrived at a dilapidated temple, and just as I was about to leave, I heard the anguished screams of a pregnant woman. My heart jolted; those cries sounded like someone was giving birth. Could it be that the woman was experiencing complications?
I rushed inside and saw a pregnant woman covered in blood. I was taken aback; one of her baby's hands was already emerging. The woman's face was extremely pale, and there was not a soul around. I hurried to her side, grasping her hand and asking, "Are you okay?"
The pregnant woman was drenched in sweat and unable to speak; she looked incredibly weak. Panic surged within me as I reassured her, "Don't worry, I will help you."
Upon hearing my words, the woman nodded with gratitude. I channeled my celestial energy into her, and she seemed to regain some strength.
Seeing this, I began to assist her in delivering the baby. "Just hold on; I'll help you get the child out."
The woman nodded in response to my voice. I placed my hands on her belly and used Divine Power to eliminate the obstacles within her. While channeling Divine Power, I sensed an aura reminiscent of Imperial Aura surging back and forth within her.
Wait, Imperial Aura?
A realization struck me like lightning—could it be?
My eyes widened in shock. Was this child already chosen by Heavenly Law?
I intensified my efforts; the birth of this child could suppress the Celestial Child, creating a natural counterbalance. Just as I was about to deliver the Imperial Child, a menacing aura suddenly approached from behind me. My heart raced as I quickly formed a Protective Circle around both the pregnant woman and myself.
The speed of that aura was astonishing. Just as my Protective Circle formed, it collided with it, creating a powerful reverberation.
I narrowed my eyes; it seemed this Celestial Child had some tricks up its sleeve and had anticipated my actions. However, based solely on this maneuver, I could invoke Heavenly Rules to punish the Celestial Child. Yet, given its young age, that wouldn't be appropriate.
I focused intently on assisting the pregnant woman with her delivery. Before long, the body of the Imperial Child emerged.
I let out a sigh of relief; fortunately, the Imperial Child was born at this moment. If it had been any later, the pregnant woman might not have been able to hold on.
I took a careful glance at the pregnant woman. She looked very weak now. Although my celestial energy had aided her earlier, the Imperial Child was no ordinary child, and the consumption of celestial energy had been substantial.
At the instant the Imperial Child was born, a beam of golden light filled the dilapidated temple.
I instinctively closed my eyes as an incredibly pure aura enveloped the entire space.
Looking down at the Imperial Child in my hands, I noticed he was not like an ordinary newborn; he was already extraordinary.
After his birth, the Imperial Child did not cry but instead smiled at me, his laughter sweet and melodious.
"You must grow up well; only then can you protect the entire human realm," I said, gently placing a mark on his forehead for his protection.
The small body of the Imperial Child emitted a radiant glow.
I nodded in satisfaction and placed him beside the woman, who seemed much better now, likely due to that earlier surge of energy.
"Are you an immortal?" she asked me.
I smiled but did not respond. The joy on her face was evident as she excitedly said, "Since you are an immortal, could you help me raise my child to achieve Great Achievement?"
Her eyes were filled with pleading.
I paused for a moment, looking at her in confusion. After all, this woman was supposed to raise her own child.
"Immortal, do you not agree?" she said urgently.
I shook my head and explained, "It's not that I disagree, but why don't you raise the child yourself?"
A look of sorrow appeared on the woman's face as she said, "It's not that I don't want to, but I have no choice. You see, the doctor told me I don't have many days left. I've contracted a serious illness and was unable to give birth to the child. Fortunately, I encountered you, Immortal, and my poor child was able to be born."
As she spoke, a tear rolled down her cheek. Seeing her in such a state made my heart ache, so I took the child from her arms. There was a hint of reluctance in her eyes.
"Immortal, please take good care of this poor child for me," she implored. Suddenly, her expression froze, and she closed her eyes as if she had passed away.
I looked at her with mixed feelings. At that moment, I sensed a presence behind me—an aura that seemed to come from the Underworld. Instinctively, I turned around while holding the child and saw Feng Ju.
"Wang Jun, what are you doing here?" Feng Ju looked at me in surprise.
"I'm here to assist with the birth," I replied.
Feng Ju paused for a moment, still wearing a puzzled expression. After glancing at the child in my arms, he said, "I see now; it must be this child you're holding. He is the Imperial Child."
I was taken aback by Feng Ju's words. How did he know that the child I held was the Imperial Child?
Feng Ju seemed to sense my thoughts and explained, "This woman should have died long ago, but somehow her time has been extended. That's quite strange. I immediately came to check on things in the mortal realm and didn't expect to find you here. Moreover, when the woman was close to death, I sensed a peculiar aura mixed with the death energy. That's why I came personally to investigate. But Wang Jun, what is going on? Has something changed? It seems this change occurred only in the past few days."
I nodded at Feng Ju and said, "Yes, you're right. This change has indeed only been discovered recently. The reason is that the Celestial Child from Taishang Laojun's household escaped from Heaven. This will undoubtedly cause significant consequences in the mortal realm. To prevent these consequences, Ruoxi and I came down together. Right now, Ruoxi is monitoring that Celestial Child at Li Manor; however, the current Celestial Child doesn't possess enough spiritual power to resist us."
Upon hearing this, Feng Ju finally understood and nodded as if enlightened. "So that's how it is! However, this does present a problem. Wang Jun, if you need any assistance, just let me know."
I nodded again and glanced at the woman lying dead on the ground. Turning to Feng Ju, I said, "Once she descends to the Underworld, please arrange for her to have a better position; after all, she is the mother of the Imperial Child."
Feng Ju glanced at the woman lying on the ground and said to me, "Alright, don't worry. I will make arrangements for her, Wang Jun. What do you plan to do about the Imperial Child in your arms?"
I understood Feng Ju's intention and thought for a moment before replying, "Let him grow naturally."
Feng Ju seemed surprised and said, "Wang Jun, this is the Imperial Child we're talking about. If he grows up naturally, won't his power be inferior to that of the Celestial Child?"
I shook my head and replied, "It's hard to say. However, this is the best way to treat the Imperial Child. If he learns of his identity too early, it could lead to a lot of trouble. Moreover, if we awaken the Evil Spirit in this world, it would be disastrous."
"Evil Spirit?" Feng Ju looked at me with confusion and continued, "Are you saying there are Evil Spirits in this world? I haven't felt anything at all."
I smiled lightly and explained, "That's because the Evil Spirits are suppressed in a certain space. If the Imperial Child's identity is exposed and they sense that aura, they won't be able to hold back and will rush out. That would be very troublesome, you know."
Feng Ju nodded as if he understood my words and asked, "So what should we do?"
I glanced at the Imperial Child in my arms and said, "We can only become ordinary people and raise the Imperial Child together."
Feng Ju's mouth twitched in disbelief as he looked at me and said, "Wang Jun, are you saying that the two of us will raise the Imperial Child together? You can't be serious."
I was puzzled by Feng Ju's reaction and replied, "What's wrong with that? Should I find a woman to help? If Ruoxi finds out, I would be in serious trouble."
Feng Ju burst into laughter and said, "I didn't expect you, Wang Jun, to be someone who fears his wife."
I shot Feng Ju a glare but didn't continue arguing with him. I transformed into an ordinary person, and seeing this, Feng Ju followed suit and also became an ordinary person.
"Wang Jun, where should we settle down?" Wind Lord asked me.
I looked at the dilapidated temple; it didn't seem too bad. With a few minor adjustments, it could be made livable. I transformed the temple into three very ordinary thatched cottages.
"Wow, this actually looks pretty good," Feng Ju said.
I handed the Imperial Child in my arms to Feng Ju and said, "You hold him for now."
Feng Ju sighed helplessly, "Sigh, I've never held my own child, yet here I am holding the Imperial Child first. If the Imperial Child grows up, I definitely want him to call me 'Dad.'"
I couldn't help but chuckle and teased Feng Ju, "Doesn't that make you the Imperial Child's dad already?"
Feng Ju paused for a moment, as if realizing something, then smiled and said, "You're right; I almost forgot about that."
I glanced at the three cottages. Something seemed to flash through my mind. Now that we had these rooms, we needed a way to make a living; otherwise, we wouldn't be much different from an ordinary family.
I asked Feng Ju, "What kind of business do you think we should start?"
"Isn't it simple? We can sell game," Feng Ju replied.
I raised an eyebrow, suddenly finding Feng Ju's suggestion quite good. I nodded in agreement.
As time passed, the Imperial Child slowly grew up and was around six or seven years old.
Feng Ju and I were at the market in City buying some game when we heard a bustling commotion ahead. It seemed like the young master of a wealthy household had arrived.
Feng Ju and I exchanged glances, preparing to pack up and leave when we were suddenly surrounded by a group of people.
We both sighed simultaneously, realizing that our hard-earned catch was about to be taken away.
Feng Ju shrugged his shoulders in resignation and said, "See? I knew it. Wang Jun, why don't we use Divine Power? It would make it easier to avoid being bullied."
I certainly understood the meaning of Feng Ju, but since we are in the human realm, we should behave like humans. Using Divine Power would disrupt one of the rules of this world.
I shook my head; it seemed Feng Ju had to give up.
"Hey, what’s wrong with you? You see our young master and you just run away!" An extremely ugly middle-aged man approached, pointing his finger at me and Feng Ju, cursing loudly.
Feng Ju and I turned to look at a palanquin behind us. To our surprise, the person who stepped out was not some other noble young master, but the Celestial Child.
The Celestial Child was now about the same age as the Imperial Child, around six or seven years old.
Upon seeing us, the Celestial Child instinctively shivered, a hint of fear flashing across his face, but it quickly disappeared; it was merely a reflex.
After all, he was the Celestial Child, and as for Feng Ju and me—one was the Heavenly Emperor and the other was the King of Hell.
These two identities weighed heavily on the Celestial Child.
"You have quite a lot of nerve," the Celestial Child said as he walked toward Feng Ju and me.
