I watched Azure Grain as tears streamed down her face, feeling a deep ache in my heart, as if something had gripped me tightly.
I never expected Azure Grain would do this.
"Perhaps, as the clan leader said, I shouldn't have feelings for the Heavenly Emperor. However, being able to love you and marry you is enough for me. I am an unforgivable person; to my people, I am a traitor and the root cause of all their suffering. Maybe I truly deserve to die. But before I go, I still want to see you and call you Wang Jun." With that, Azure Grain collapsed onto the ground.
I made no move because I couldn't. There were too many ties between me and Azure Grain.
"If given another chance, I would love you properly," she said before closing her eyes, a faint smile lingering on her lips.
Moments later, Azure Grain vanished—forever gone—and so did the people of Queen.
I stared at the spot where Azure Grain had disappeared, my heart filled with complex emotions. She had done nothing wrong to me; rather, it was I who had wronged her. Yet there could never be any relationship between us.
"Heavenly Emperor," Old Five approached and gently patted my shoulder. I turned to look at him and nodded in acknowledgment.
"Heavenly Emperor, you're not dead, are you?" Old Five asked.
I shook my head, assuring him that I was fine, then asked him to handle the situation while I descended to check on Ruoxi. Now that the crisis with the Previous Empress had been resolved, there was nothing left for me to worry about.
"Wang Jun," just as I was about to leave, I heard Feng Ju's voice behind me.
I was somewhat surprised to see Feng Ju. Logically speaking, she should have been dealing with those from Queen. Was something wrong?
"Wang Jun, I think you should put aside your concerns about Ruoxi, because there's trouble at Dark Abyss," Feng Ju said.
My heart sank at her words. I hadn't expected that Dark Abyss would be vulnerable; someone had taken advantage of this moment to strike at the Dark Abyss.
I immediately followed her to Dark Abyss. When we arrived, there stood a figure.
My heart skipped a beat; there was something familiar about this person's silhouette.
Seeing me frozen in place, Feng Ju hurriedly asked what was wrong.
I shook my head in disbelief and called out to the person, "Uncle Tiger."
The figure turned upon hearing my voice and looked at me with a chilling smile—it was indeed Uncle Tiger.
"Wang Jun, do you know him? He is the one who released Dark Abyss," Feng Ju said.
It felt as if I hadn't heard her words; my gaze remained fixed on Uncle Tiger.
Why is this happening? What is going on?
My mind was even more confused.
"Long time no see, Wang Niu. Do you know that you have been enjoying everything I have for a long time?" With that, Uncle Tiger stepped closer to me.
A chill ran through my entire body.
At that moment, Uncle Tiger felt so unfamiliar, like a complete stranger.
"What is going on?" I finally managed to speak as Uncle Tiger stood in front of me.
"Heh heh, you should know by now. Everything has been orchestrated by me for today," Uncle Tiger said.
"What do you mean?" I was bewildered by Uncle Tiger's words.
At that moment, Feng Ju quickly unleashed her spiritual power to confront Uncle Tiger. However, before her attack could reach him, it was controlled by Uncle Tiger. I watched as Feng Ju was held suspended in mid-air, her expression growing increasingly pained.
I hurriedly tried to stop Uncle Tiger, but unexpectedly, he struck me down hard. The blow was severe; within moments, I felt as if my internal organs were about to shatter.
"Uncle Tiger, you..." I was deeply shocked by his actions.
"Heh, actually you should feel grateful that I've let you live this long," Uncle Tiger sneered.
In an instant, I felt as if lightning had struck me. I couldn't believe what Uncle Tiger was saying. In my memory, he had always been like family to me; who would have thought...
"Don't you want to know why?" Uncle Tiger asked.
I nodded; even if I were to die, I wanted to understand.
Uncle Tiger smiled and said, "Do you know why you've been able to see those things all these years? It's not because of your fate but because you are the Heavenly Emperor. Naturally, you can perceive these things. However, although you are the reincarnation of the Heavenly Emperor, you do not possess his powers. Yet the aura around you is indeed that of the Heavenly Emperor."
In an instant, I felt as if I understood something. A deep sorrow reflected in my eyes; I had thought that Uncle Tiger was the closest person to me, but it turned out he approached me with ulterior motives.
"You figured it out, didn't you?" Uncle Tiger crouched down to look at me.
I forced a bitter smile and let Uncle Tiger continue speaking.
For some reason, there was still a pang of heartache within me.
Uncle Tiger continued, "When I learned that you were the reincarnation of the Heavenly Emperor, I anticipated that you would ascend to the throne. But how could the Three Realms allow you to achieve that so easily? Wouldn't everything I did before be in vain? You should know how the Former Celestial Emperor obtained his position."
I looked at Uncle Tiger's cold expression and nodded; it was through fratricide.
"Yes, fratricide. On that day, I was the Heavenly Emperor, and the Former Celestial Emperor was my good brother. I treated him like my own kin. Who would have thought he would harbor murderous intent against me? Fortunately, I had the protective talisman from my mother, which saved my soul. Otherwise, I would have met the same fate as those who fell by his hand."
"Do you know that the Former Celestial Emperor was always someone I trusted deeply? He and I were not born of the same mother; his mother's background was very humble. His existence influenced Father Emperor greatly. When Father Emperor intended to take action against him, it was I who pleaded with my mother to spare him. At that time, my mother opposed it, warning me it would bring future troubles. But I didn't listen; I trusted the Former Celestial Emperor completely. Seeing my determination, my mother sought out the Heavenly Emperor to ask for his mercy. From then on, he became my mother's nominal adopted son, and she treated him very well without any harshness. However, once he learned that Father Emperor intended to pass the position to me, everything changed. He secretly gathered forces with the aim of seizing power one day."
"If I had known he had designs on that position, I would have given it to him as long as he didn't harm my mother; she was innocent. That day, I witnessed my mother pleading with him desperately to spare her life. Yet his face remained cold and unyielding. In his ruthless demeanor, he killed her, and at that moment, I realized he had officially become an enemy of both me and my mother."
"I fought against him, but unexpectedly, he poisoned me beforehand. None of my Divine Power could be summoned; I thought I would die at his hands as my spirit began to dissipate. But what surprised me was that the talisman from my mother embraced my spirit and carried it down to the mortal realm where it landed on a corpse. Since then, I've lived as an ordinary person, accumulating spiritual energy in hopes of one day avenging my mother by killing the Former Celestial Emperor."
"I waited a long time and never expected to meet you. I knew you were the son of the Former Celestial Emperor and understood that after going through a series of trials and tribulations, you would return to heaven and even change the entire Three Realms."
"But how could I allow things to go so smoothly for you? So I placed a curse upon you, ensuring you would continuously reap consequences for your actions. Do you remember those who died for your sake? Ah yes, there's someone you should meet properly."
"Because much of what you've suffered is also due to Captain Wu's involvement. Come forth!"
As Uncle Tiger's voice fell, Captain Wu appeared before me, his face equally adorned with a faint coldness.
My heart sank; an overwhelming sensation akin to a spiraling vortex engulfed me. What was happening?
"Why... why?" My voice trembled slightly as I spoke.
"Haha, there's no reason. I am a person of Uncle Tiger," Captain Wu said.
As soon as he finished speaking, the entire world changed. Dark clouds gathered, and thunder roared.
"Do you see? This is the consequence of your forceful attempt to change everything," Uncle Tiger pointed to the sky and said.
"What are you talking about?" I asked, somewhat confused, but I felt there was something more to it.
"Haha, you still don't know, do you? As the reincarnation of the Heavenly Emperor, you cannot interfere with any of the karmas that affect those in the mortal realm. Originally, A Yao could have lived, but because you meddled in her affairs, she died. And A Yao's roommate could also have survived; your insistence on investigating A Yao's matters led to her death instead," Uncle Tiger explained.
In an instant, my mind went blank. These events were overwhelming.
"Why, Uncle Tiger? I mean you no harm. Why are you doing this? I considered you family."
Uncle Tiger suddenly burst into laughter. "Does that matter? It has no use at all because you carry the blood of the Former Celestial Emperor. You are a descendant of the Former Celestial Emperor. From the moment you were born, it meant that we would be irreconcilable enemies, wouldn't it?" Uncle Tiger looked at me coldly.
