“Is something wrong with you all?”
Upon hearing my words, Xiaomei's tears began to flow. Seeing her like this made my heart race with worry, and I turned to Feng Ju and asked, “What happened?”
Feng Ju remained silent, a look of helplessness in her eyes. My heart sank; could it be that something serious occurred while I was away?
Noticing that neither of them spoke further, I decided not to press the matter any longer. At least they were here now.
I settled both of them into Qingning Palace.
Xiaomei's mood gradually improved, and Feng Ju pulled me aside, saying, “Wang Jun, please don’t mention what you just said again. It would hurt Xiaomei deeply, and I don’t know how to explain what has happened to us.”
Looking at the expression on Feng Ju's face, I nodded and approached Xiaomei. My gaze fell on her belly as I asked, “Xiaomei, are you expecting a baby?”
Xiaomei lifted her gaze to meet mine and replied, “Yes, this is my second baby with Feng Ju.”
I was momentarily taken aback, looking at Xiaomei with a complex expression. The fleeting sadness in her eyes seemed to confirm Feng Ju's words. I quickly changed the subject, saying, “You both should rest well.”
After saying that, I prepared to leave Qingning Palace when Xiaomei suddenly called out to me, “Wang, where is Princess?”
I paused for a moment before telling Xiaomei that Ruoxi had gone to the mortal realm to undergo tribulations.
Then I returned to my chamber and waved my hand, causing a large mirror to appear before me. It reflected Ruoxi.
A smile spread across my face as I saw Ruoxi in a small room decorating it with cheerful enthusiasm.
After a while, Ruoxi emerged from the room holding a bouquet of flowers. Just then, a bandit rushed forward and exclaimed, “Not good! Miss, something has happened! It seems the people in the small village are dying today. When we went there to deliver supplies, we found they seem to have contracted some infectious disease; their bodies are all swollen!”
Ruoxi froze for a moment but quickly understood. She dropped what she was holding and ran toward the small village.
My gaze followed Ruoxi as she headed toward the village.
I saw that dark energy surrounded the small village, and villagers lay scattered on the ground, their bodies covered in swollen blisters.
My brow furrowed with concern as I quickly approached Ruoxi.
"Ruoxi," I said, stepping in front of her.
"What are you doing here?" Ruoxi exclaimed, surprise and excitement lighting up her face.
"I'm here to be with you. I'm afraid you might get hurt," I replied.
"You..."
I gently ruffled Ruoxi's hair and said, "Alright, you need to be careful. This place is very dangerous; these villagers might have contracted a plague."
Ruoxi's eyes widened at my words. "You mean they have the plague?"
I nodded, directing my gaze toward the villagers. "Look at the blisters on their skin, their pallor, and the black smoke filling the air. That smoke is likely the culprit behind the plague."
"What black smoke? Why can't I see it?" Ruoxi asked, her eyes wide with confusion.
It was understandable that Ruoxi couldn't see it; after all, she was an ordinary person now, and such things were beyond the perception of an untrained eye.
"Do you want to see it?"
Ruoxi nodded and reached out her hand. I placed my hand over hers, murmuring a few words as a wisp of ethereal energy flowed into her palm.
"Take another look," I instructed her.
Ruoxi turned her gaze around again, her eyes filled with astonishment as if she were questioning what was happening.
I glanced at Ruoxi before moving closer to one of the villagers to examine them. Just then, Ruoxi rushed over and blocked my path. "No! You can't! You'll get infected! You need to leave!"
With that, she tried to push me away, a hint of urgency flashing in her eyes. Seeing her like this filled me with a warm sense of comfort.
"Ruoxi, I'm fine, you don't need to worry," I said to Ruoxi.
"I don't care, just hurry and leave!"
I couldn't help but laugh. "I'm a deity, are you sure you want me to leave and then come back to save them?"
Ruoxi paused for a moment after hearing my words. I felt a bit helpless; when Ruoxi got anxious, she acted foolishly.
"Look at me."
I gave Ruoxi a reassuring look, and a ball of light appeared in my hand.
"Gather," I said just as the words left my mouth.
I felt the light in my hand slowly gaining weight, and the black mist floating in the air was drawn into the light.
"Wow, that's amazing!" Ruoxi exclaimed as she watched this scene unfold.
I smiled slightly and put in more effort. In no time, the black mist in this area was completely absorbed by the light in my hand.
"Wang Jun, is everything alright now?" Ruoxi came closer to me, her excitement growing.
I shook my head. "I can't say it's all fine yet; after all, the root of their illnesses still needs treatment, even though I've dispelled the plague."
Ruoxi looked worried. "What should we do then?"
I thought for a moment. "You go find some spring water and have someone bring a large tub, okay?"
Ruoxi hesitated for a moment but immediately went to follow my instructions.
I gathered the people together and looked at the blisters on their bodies; it gave me a tingling sensation on my scalp.
I immediately extracted the source of their ailments. After removing it, I watched as the swollen skin on their bodies gradually returned to normal, and their complexions slowly improved.
I looked on with satisfaction; as long as Ruoxi brought the spring water over, I could infuse it with celestial energy. Once they drank it, they would recover instantly.
"Wang Jun," at that moment, Ruoxi arrived behind me with some people. I turned to look at her.
"Is this enough?" Ruoxi pointed to several barrels of water behind her.
I nodded and walked over to the water. As I placed my hand in it, waves erupted, resembling boiling water.
"Wang Jun, what's happening?"
"It's nothing; we'll just have them drink it soon," I replied, withdrawing my hand.
Ruoxi paused for a moment before instructing those behind her. I stepped out and frowned as I surveyed the surroundings. It was clear that someone was deliberately causing this trouble. Who could it be?
If I hadn't acted quickly to save these villagers, Ruoxi's Li Jie would likely face more setbacks.
"Wang Jun, what are you looking at?" Ruoxi asked curiously.
"Oh, it's nothing," I said to her.
Ruoxi smiled and pulled out a bouquet of roses from somewhere, handing them to me. "Wang Jun, these flowers are for you."
I accepted the flowers from Ruoxi's hands, holding them as if they were a treasure. Ruoxi chuckled and said, "Wang Jun, I need to get back to work."
I nodded in acknowledgment as she left. Once she was gone, I called out into the air, "Come out."
Xiaomin appeared before me. I asked her, "Have you noticed anything unusual in the atmosphere around here lately?"
Xiaomin hesitated for a moment, glancing towards the small village. Seemingly understanding my intent, she replied, "Not really, but it's strange; I have a feeling there's something off about Queen of Heaven's dreams."
Xiaomin's words immediately tensed me up as I said, "What do you mean by unusual activity?"
Xiaomin replied, "Heavenly Emperor, it's like this. Didn't you ask me to protect the Queen of Heaven? While the Queen of Heaven was resting, I stayed by her side. Late at night, I suddenly felt something was off. It seemed like a dark force was controlling the Queen of Heaven's dreams. With my abilities, I couldn't enter her dreams, but I sensed that this force was harmful to her."
Xiaomin's words sent a jolt through my heart; if that were the case, it could be quite troublesome.
"I understand. I'll check tonight to see what it is."
Xiaomin nodded. Just as I was about to speak, a voice suddenly came through—Feng Ju's voice. "Wang Jun, you need to return to the Heavenly Court; something has happened!"
My heart sank at once as I recalled Xiaomei's condition. Could something have happened to her?
I quickly briefed Xiaomin and headed straight back to the Heavenly Court.
I arrived at Qingning Palace.
As soon as I walked in, I heard Xiaomei's heart-wrenching cries. My brows furrowed in concern; what was happening? I rushed inside and saw Xiaomei's true form revealed, her belly extremely swollen.
I was momentarily stunned; what could have happened?
"Wang Jun, it's good that you're here. What has happened to Xiaomei? I just checked her with spiritual energy, but it didn't help," Feng Ju said anxiously.
"Don't panic," I reassured Feng Ju as I approached Xiaomei. She looked in great pain, and when I glanced at her belly, it seemed to be growing larger by the moment.
"Feng Ju, what did Xiaomei eat? How did she end up like this?" My tone turned serious; it looked like Xiaomei had ingested Evil Energy from the Dark Abyss.
Feng Ju paused for a moment before rushing over to the table and bringing back a bowl of liquid. "Look, she drank this water."
I looked at the water in Feng Ju's hand; although it appeared clear, upon closer inspection, there were traces of Evil Energy hidden within. Without hesitation, I knocked the bowl from Feng Ju's hand onto the ground. As the water splashed onto the floor, it emitted a hissing sound as if it were burning.
"How could this happen?" Feng Ju stared at me in shock.
"It must have been tainted by Evil Energy," I said.
"What are you talking about, Evil Energy? No way, Wang Jun. I personally got this water for Xiaomei. How could it possibly be contaminated with Evil Energy?" Feng Ju looked at me with a puzzled expression.
I first calmed Xiaomei's emotions before asking Feng Ju, "Where did you get this water?"
Seeing my serious demeanor, Feng Ju realized the importance of the situation and immediately pulled me aside, leading me to the water source. Not far from Qingning Palace, there was a Heavenly River that connected the realms of heaven and earth.
"Right here," Feng Ju said, pointing at the Heavenly River in front of us.
I took a quick glance around and noticed nothing unusual. Suddenly, something struck me, and I approached the Heavenly River. I crouched down to examine the celestial water and noticed a faint trace of Evil Energy. Could it be flowing down from above?
I quickly followed the course of the Heavenly River upstream, with Feng Ju trailing behind me.
"Wang Jun, did you find something?" Feng Ju asked.
I nodded in affirmation.
At that moment, we reached the source of the Heavenly River. The celestial water cascaded down from a waterfall, following its natural path over time.
My gaze fixed on the waterfall. Could there be something wrong with it?
