"You really are stubborn. Our Little Ruoxi is already a little adult; she can fall in love now. Do you still want to keep her locked up?" Uncle shook his head and sat down.
"Alright, Father, Uncle, let's just eat," Ruoxi said, feeling a bit of a headache.
After saying that, she served each of the middle-aged man and Uncle a piece of rib.
"This is the good Ruoxi I know," the middle-aged man laughed.
Uncle shook his head helplessly and looked at Ruoxi. "See? Your father acts like a child."
The middle-aged man shot him a glare upon hearing Uncle's words about him.
I couldn't help but smile at this scene.
Afterward, Ruoxi pulled me outside and said she wanted to take me somewhere.
Seeing the mysterious look on Ruoxi's face, curiosity bubbled up inside me as I walked alongside her, asking where she was taking me.
Ruoxi smiled and said, "You'll find out soon enough. If you knew now, it wouldn't have the same effect."
I chuckled helplessly, my eyes filled with affection for Ruoxi. Since she wanted to give me a surprise, I decided not to ask any further.
As we got closer, Ruoxi suddenly covered my eyes and said, "No peeking with your Spell! Otherwise, I won't be nice to you."
My heart skipped a beat as I replied, "Okay."
Hearing my answer made Ruoxi very happy; she kept my eyes covered and continued leading me forward.
Before long, Ruoxi stopped with me.
"Alright, we've arrived," Ruoxi said as she removed her hand from my eyes.
When I opened them, I was greeted by a breathtaking sight of flowers covering the ground. In the midst of the blossoms stood a small house woven from vines, exuding a sense of tranquility and beauty.
"Is this really the place you mentioned? It's beautiful! Did you create this?" I asked, looking at Ruoxi.
Ruoxi shyly nodded and replied, "Yes, I've been working on this for a long time. I always thought that when I found someone special, I would bring them here. This is my gift to him; it's my little paradise."
Her words stirred a tidal wave of emotions within me.
I cautiously asked Ruoxi, "So, am I your special someone?"
She nodded again and said, "Yes, you are my special someone. I don't know why, but I feel like I've seen you somewhere before. When I first met you, my heart started racing uncontrollably. Ever since then, I've been thinking about you."
I was taken aback by her confession. I pulled Ruoxi into an embrace, realizing that fate truly has its own way of binding people together.
Suddenly, a thought struck me: I wanted Ruoxi to return to the heavens quickly and leave behind Li Jie. I wanted to marry her as soon as possible and crown her as my Queen, granting her the highest privileges.
"I love you," I declared to Ruoxi.
Upon hearing those words, her face turned even redder. Seeing her blush sent ripples of excitement through my heart, igniting an overwhelming desire to kiss her.
I restrained that impulse; I wanted Ruoxi to choose willingly.
"In a little while, we can be together. By then, you'll be my wife," I said earnestly to Ruoxi.
She looked momentarily stunned before her face lit up with joy as she asked, "Really? You truly want to marry me?"
I nodded at Ruoxi, affirming that it was true; I was willing to marry her and no one else.
Ruoxi's face lit up with joy as she stood on her tiptoes and planted a kiss on my cheek.
"I love you too."
We stayed in the small house for a while, but eventually, I had to leave. After all, I was the Heavenly Emperor and had responsibilities in the Heavenly Court.
Upon returning to the Heavenly Court, Taishang Laojun appeared before me.
"Heavenly Emperor, I have something to discuss with you. Recently, we have summoned some Heavenly Soldiers and Generals from above, and I need your personal review of them."
"Alright, let's go take a look."
Taishang Laojun led me to the Heavenly Harmony Palace. As soon as we arrived, I saw many Heavenly Soldiers and Generals gathered there. Taishang Laojun explained that these soldiers had distinguished themselves in the mortal realm; after their deaths, they were selected for their merits to ascend to the heavens, where the Heavenly Emperor would evaluate them.
"Welcome, Heavenly Emperor!" A member of the Heavenly Palace immediately knelt upon seeing me enter. The others present followed suit and knelt as well.
I nodded in satisfaction and gestured for them to rise before taking my seat.
Taishang Laojun signaled for the Heavenly Palace to begin the selection process.
The candidates lined up in a row, with a long queue stretching behind them, giving an impression that it seemed endless.
I felt a bit helpless; how long would this selection take?
The first candidate for review was a dark-skinned man.
I couldn't help but laugh at his appearance; he looked so amusing.
After seeing me laugh, he seemed a bit embarrassed and scratched his head, saying, "Heavenly Emperor, my name is Old Five. I was a general in my past life, and I hope the Heavenly Emperor will take a liking to me. I have many skills."
Listening to him, I became intrigued. "What can you do? Do you know the ways of commanding troops?"
Old Five nodded and began to speak.
He talked for almost an hour, and I was quite impressed by his knowledge of military strategy. I never expected Old Five to know so much.
"Alright, you've been selected," I said, cutting him off due to time constraints. If I let him continue, the others wouldn't have a chance. However, given Old Five's qualifications, it was certainly acceptable.
"Really? Thank you, Heavenly Emperor!" Old Five said happily. I nodded and had an idea. "Stand next to me. You will be in charge of today's selection. I trust your judgment."
I had great faith in Old Five.
Upon hearing my words, Old Five was astonished, and his expression became even more excited. This was an unparalleled honor for him.
"Thank you, Heavenly Emperor!"
I was very satisfied with Old Five's reaction, and then it was time for him to start selecting people.
I must say, Old Five proved to be quite capable in this regard; within a short time, he had already chosen several useful talents for me.
"Heavenly Emperor, won't this be problematic? If the other immortals find out, they might have objections," Taishang Laojun whispered in my ear as he observed the situation.
I wasn't particularly fond of Taishang Laojun's comment.
"If any celestial being is unhappy, let them come find me," I said firmly. Taishang Laojun sighed and fell silent.
I glanced at Taishang Laojun before shifting my focus to Old Five.
Time passed, and although many had come for the review, a significant number had already been dismissed.
"Heavenly Emperor, the selection is complete," Old Five announced as he stood before me.
I stretched my back; sitting for so long was exhausting. I turned my gaze to the individuals Old Five had chosen.
They seemed acceptable, one after another.
"Thank you for your hard work," I said to Old Five.
"Hehe, serving the Heavenly Emperor is not hard at all," Old Five replied, looking a bit shy as he scratched his head.
I told Old Five, "These people are now under your charge. You are responsible for all their arrangements. I grant you authority; in the Heavenly Court, aside from me, you need not heed anyone else's words. Your Celestial Rank will be equal to that of a Celestial Being."
Upon hearing this, Taishang Laojun looked astonished, unable to believe what he had just heard. He then said to me, "Heavenly Emperor, this is absolutely unacceptable. Old Five's Celestial Rank is already quite low. If he were to be elevated to the rank of a Celestial Being all at once and given such high authority, it would seem unfair."
I calmly looked at Taishang Laojun and replied, "What unfairness are you speaking of? Old Five's responsibilities involve ensuring the safety of the Heavenly Court; there is nothing unfair about that."
Taishang Laojun was left speechless by my response, wearing a look of helplessness.
I bestowed authority upon Old Five.
After receiving his new powers, Old Five left. Taishang Laojun seemed like he wanted to say something more but was stopped by me.
"You go ahead; I'm too tired. I just want to take a good nap."
Upon seeing the strong figure, Taishang Laojun descended.
I let out a sigh of relief; these people were too bothersome.
Not long after I closed my eyes, I sensed a faint presence of a living being slowly approaching me. I continued to pretend to be asleep.
When the presence got closer, I immediately opened my eyes and pinned down its owner.
"Ah, it's me, Heavenly Emperor," came the pained voice of Azure Grain.
Hearing this, I quickly released Azure Grain and looked at him in confusion. "What are you doing here?"
Azure Grain paused for a moment, looking somewhat hurt. "Heavenly Emperor, do you dislike Azure Grain?"
I was thrown off by Azure Grain's words. "No, not at all. Don't overthink it."
Azure Grain smiled and excitedly said, "Then that means Heavenly Emperor likes Azure Grain! I'm sorry!"
I was speechless.
Then I quickly explained to Azure Grain, "Azure Grain, I want you to understand one thing: my heart already belongs to Ruoxi. It's impossible for me to accept someone like you or anyone else."
