The man looked at me and said, "Naturally, you must first gain the trust of the Tree Sage. You promised him you would become the Spirit King. Once you become the Spirit King, the Tree Sage will secretly start targeting those children. I observed the man's confident demeanor and thought for a moment before replying, "What weakness? But I can't go with you right now because I still have things to do."
The man paused as if he had thought of something and asked, "Are you going to the deserted island?"
I nodded slightly, about to turn away when he called out to me, "I can go with you and help you; it will make things much easier for you."
I stopped in my tracks, looking at him with confusion. His words made me uneasy; after all, this matter was of great importance.
"No need. I will fulfill my promise to you, but please wait for me," I directly refused him.
This was about Ruoxi, and I certainly couldn't take any risks with her.
A flicker of hurt crossed the man's eyes. Then he spat out something resembling an inner core. "I know you still don't trust me. This is my inner core. If I do anything bad to you, you can destroy it. At that point, my spirit will also vanish. You should understand how important this inner core is to me. I genuinely want to cooperate with you and hope we can trust each other."
"Alright," I said, seeing that he was sincere. I decided not to argue further and led him back.
When Xiaomei and Dumeng Princess saw me return, they sighed in relief. However, their expressions quickly shifted as they focused on the man behind me, clearly puzzled.
Just as I was about to speak, Dumeng Princess suddenly screamed and charged at the man behind me. "It's you! You heartless scoundrel! How dare you kill so many children? How are you still alive?"
Dumeng Princess was extremely agitated. I was taken aback; what was going on? Wasn't it the Tree Sage who did this? How did it involve the man?
Realizing there might be some misunderstanding here, I quickly separated Dumeng Princess from the man.
"Your Majesty, what is going on?" Xiaomei asked in confusion.
"This man is a demon! You don't know; he has killed many children!" Dumeng Princess answered forcefully.
Upon hearing Dumeng Princess's words, Xiaomei's face darkened with anger as she turned to me and said, "Your Majesty, get out of the way! We shouldn't keep someone like this alive; just kill him!"
After saying that, Xiaomei directly attacked the man. I was taken aback; why did everyone have such a bad temper?
"Stop it!" I looked at the chaotic scene, feeling a headache coming on.
In an instant, the situation became extremely chaotic. I felt helpless; how did things escalate to this point?
Seeing that shouting was ineffective, I used Divine Power to freeze everyone in place.
"Can you all just listen to me?" I looked at Dumeng Princess and Xiaomei with a sigh of frustration.
Xiaomei's eyes widened even more, as if protesting that I had restrained her, while Dumeng Princess glared at me with anger.
I sighed again and said, "You might have misunderstood him; the one behind all this is Tree Sage."
As soon as I said this, Dumeng Princess was taken aback, and Xiaomei was no exception.
"What do you mean by Tree Sage? How is that possible?" Dumeng Princess seemed to be in shock.
"What’s going on here?"
I turned to the man and sighed. "Why don’t you explain it? Tell them what’s really happening."
The man nodded, seemingly not holding any grudge against Xiaomei and Dumeng Princess for their earlier fight. He began to change the scene before us.
When Dumeng Princess and Xiaomei saw what appeared in the scene, they were both stunned.
What unfolded was a depiction of Tree Sage committing misdeeds.
Dumeng Princess and Xiaomei fell silent. After a moment, the man dismissed the scene and said to them, "Now you understand, right?"
Dumeng Princess and Xiaomei looked apologetic.
"Alright, the misunderstanding is cleared up. Please don't be so impulsive next time," I said.
"Got it," Dumeng Princess and Xiaomei replied in unison.
I nodded, and at that moment, I realized I hadn't brought back any game. Wouldn't that leave everyone hungry? I turned to leave, intending to go hunting when a man stopped me, saying, "Are you going to look for game?"
I was taken aback for a moment and nodded. The man pulled out something that appeared to be a ring. He rubbed his hand over the ring, and after a moment, a beam of light shot out from it as he stepped inside. I looked on in confusion, wondering what this was.
"Your Majesty, that seems to be a storage ring," Xiaomei said as she walked over to me.
I was surprised to learn such things existed. Dumeng Princess also approached and said to me, "Yes, Xiaomei is right. However, only the Spirit King possesses one of these."
Dumeng Princess's words reminded me of earlier, so I asked her, "Why were you so agitated when you saw him?"
Dumeng Princess looked a bit embarrassed and smiled as she replied, "I thought he was the murderer. Besides, I didn't know the truth wasn't like that. Previously, he was our Spirit King, but later on, Tree Sage exposed that he had done many harmful things to our people while being the Spirit King. Tree Sage punished him for it."
As I listened to Dumeng Princess's words, I frowned. It seemed Tree Sage's methods were indeed insidious; not only did he shift blame onto others for his own actions, but he also cleared his own name.
Seeing my dazed expression, Xiaomei seemed to understand something and said to me, "Your Majesty, could it be that you encountered him during your long absence?"
I nodded and recounted what had happened earlier.
They both stood there in shock, probably not expecting Tree Sage to act in such a manner.
"I can't believe Tree Sage is that kind of person," Dumeng Princess said angrily.
"Yeah, I never thought Tree Sage would be like this. By the way, Your Majesty, those things Tree Sage told us before weren't lies, were they?" Xiaomei asked with a worried expression.
I reassured her, saying, "No way. After all, we still have an agreement with Tree Sage. Don't worry; he wouldn't dare act against us."
Xiaomei nodded after hearing my call, feeling relieved. However, Dumeng Princess was different; anger flashed across her face.
"No way! I have to settle the score with that Tree Sage," she declared, turning on her heel immediately.
"Where do you think you're going?" I quickly grabbed Dumeng Princess, realizing how reckless this was. With her current abilities, going after him would be nothing short of suicide.
"What are you doing?" Dumeng Princess looked at me in confusion.
"Of course, I'm trying to stop you from getting yourself killed. Don't be so impulsive. We will deal with Tree Sage, but not now. Do you understand?" I said patiently to Dumeng Princess.
She fell silent, seemingly unyielding. I sighed; I understood her feelings as Duchess, but this kind of recklessness was unacceptable.
"Just listen to us for a moment, okay?" I looked at Dumeng Princess helplessly. After a moment of hesitation, she nodded and agreed.
I breathed a sigh of relief; finally, I had calmed this little troublemaker down.
At that moment, a man stepped out from the ring space, holding two prepared chickens. He placed one of the hens over the fire to roast. My eyes lit up with curiosity about the man's ring space.
"Can I take a look inside?" I asked eagerly.
The man hesitated for a moment before replying, "Sure."
I was about to step forward when Dumeng Princess suddenly shouted at the man, "Feng Ju! Why did you only show up now? You should have told us about all this earlier!"
Fearing that Dumeng Princess and the man might get into an argument, I decided not to pursue my curiosity further. Instead, I positioned myself between Wind Lord and Dumeng Princess, watching them helplessly. Surely they wouldn't start fighting again?
Wind Lord coldly regarded Dumeng Princess, his gaze suggesting he thought she was foolish. He said nothing and simply sat down. Seeing that Wind Lord was ignoring her, Dumeng Princess sat down with a frustrated expression, glaring at him.
I had no interest in entering the ring space anymore and settled down beside them. Xiaomei noticed and joined me, creating a somewhat heavy atmosphere for the moment.
