I looked in the direction of the Beast Clan and happened to see Dumeng Princess gazing back at me.
"Be careful," Dumeng Princess mouthed silently.
I nodded in response to her.
At that moment, the central stage suddenly lit up, capturing everyone's attention.
"Look, it's starting!" someone in the crowd shouted, and instantly, the stage was covered with flowers.
The flowers floated down from above, drawing all eyes upward.
Once the flowers settled, a woman dressed in red appeared before everyone. Her presence elicited gasps of surprise from the crowd.
Her figure was incredibly alluring, and she wore a veil that obscured her face. Although her features were hidden, she exuded an ethereal aura; just looking into her enchanting eyes was captivating enough.
"Brother Wang Niu, what are you looking at?" Luanling leaned closer.
I instinctively turned my head and nearly bumped into Luanling's face, startling me.
"Nothing," I replied lightly.
Luanling glared at the woman on stage and said, "Brother Wang Niu, do you like her? If you do, I'll kill her."
I was taken aback by Luanling's words. I looked deeply at her, feeling a complex mix of emotions. Right now, Luanling felt like a stranger to me, and there was an unsettling sense of fear about her.
"Luanling, if you keep acting like this, I'm going to be scared of you," I sighed, feeling helpless.
Luanling fell silent, and then I heard the voice of the woman standing in the center of the stage. "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Spirit Martial Conference. It officially begins now."
As soon as she finished speaking, a shower of Colorful Flowers fell all around the venue, lifting everyone's spirits. After all, the rewards of the Spirit Martial Conference were incredibly tempting.
Once the Colorful Flowers settled, a series of enchanting women appeared beside each tribe and began to dance.
The atmosphere grew even more electrifying; with such beautiful women performing seductive dances right next to them, any man would feel his heart race. If it weren't for the presence of others, everyone would have rushed forward.
"Be careful; those women can drain your spiritual energy," a voice echoed in my mind.
I paused for a moment, wondering why that voice sounded so much like Xiaomei's.
However, Xiaomei had not awakened and remained hidden within the mark on my left shoulder.
This only deepened my confusion. I instinctively glanced at the mark on my shoulder and noticed it suddenly glowed faintly, subtly pointing toward the stage.
I immediately turned my gaze back to the stage and saw the host woman staring directly at me.
Though separated by a veil, I could see her smile directed at me.
I was taken aback; her smile seemed so warm and inviting.
Could it be that she is—
My eyes widened as if she could read my thoughts; she nodded gently in acknowledgment.
My heart was filled with astonishment as I noticed a faint aura rising above the heads of those around me. This aura seemed to be spiritual energy, gathering in the air and coalescing into a black orb at the center. Who had released it, and who was using these women to collect the spiritual energy from everyone present?
I looked at the woman again, hoping to communicate with her through my gaze, but she ignored me.
After the dance concluded, the women who had appeared beside us vanished, marking the official start of the Spirit Martial Conference.
A woman took the stage as the host.
The first participants were from the Flower Tribe and Rain Tribe, the two strongest tribes in this world.
They sent forth formidable representatives, heirs to both tribes.
As these two stepped onto the stage, they cautiously observed their surroundings.
According to those present, this Spirit Martial Conference was designed to test the strength of one's spiritual energy. It was straightforward: a massive stone door would soon appear. This door was no ordinary stone door; it had been imbued with immense power and required spiritual energy to push it open. If one's energy was strong enough, they could open it; if weak, they would not only fail but also be repelled by the door, drawn into a black void. Thus, this competition carried certain risks.
Facing opponents with vastly different levels of spiritual energy posed unique dangers, and ultimately only one person would remain after all trials. That individual would then compete against the next winning team, leaving just one victor who would claim the Spirit Pearl.
"Brother Wang Niu, will you represent our Bird Tribe in the competition?" Luanling asked innocently, blinking at me.
Had these events not transpired, I might have felt compelled to assist the Bird Tribe upon seeing Luanling's demeanor. However, now I could not do so; it was uncertain whether I would find myself opposing the Beast Clan. Competing against Dumeng Princess was something I definitely did not want.
"I won't," I replied firmly to Dumeng Princess.
"Why not, Brother Wang Niu? Are you upset with me?" Luanling asked.
"No, I don't want to be in opposition to the Duchess."
"Have you fallen in love with her, Brother Wang Niu?" Luanling's eyes turned red, looking quite pitiful.
"Alright, let's just watch the competition," I interrupted Luanling directly.
I shifted my gaze to the stage, where members of the Flower Tribe and Rain Tribe stood nervously in front of the stone gate. Their expressions were tense.
Everyone's attention was focused on them, and murmurs filled the air around us.
"Who do you think will win?"
"Probably the Flower Tribe. I've heard they've put in a lot of effort for this Spirit Martial Conference."
"Not necessarily; the Rain Tribe has also worked hard."
"How about we make a bet?"
"Sure!"
The competition began, and both the Flower Tribe and Rain Tribe members unleashed their spiritual energy, pushing with all their might against the gate.
However, the stone door before them seemed to be infused with an unyielding force, refusing to budge.
This left both the Flower Tribe and Rain Tribe members anxious, rising to their feet as if they could channel their strength to aid their fellow tribespeople.
But this was not allowed, so they were extremely anxious.
"Come on, Hua Li!"
"Go for it, Windstorm!"
Members of the Rain Tribe and Wind Tribe were cheering for their own.
At that moment, I suddenly felt a gaze fixed on me. I frowned and looked in that direction, only to find Luan Yuan's eyes staring intently at me.
"Bird King, is there something you need?" I couldn't stand such scrutiny any longer.
Luan Yuan looked a bit awkward and smiled at me. "Little brother, could I ask you for a favor?"
I felt a sudden jolt and remained silent. Luan Yuan glanced at me awkwardly before continuing, "Little brother, my two sons didn't come today; they fell ill last night. I hope you can help our Bird Tribe."
Sure enough, Luan Yuan was here for this matter. No wonder I hadn't seen Luan Bai and Luanqing before; it turned out the Bird Tribe really had intentions.
"I'm afraid I can't. I've promised the Beast Tribe to represent them," I replied.
Luan Yuan looked at me in shock, and then his expression darkened as he fell silent. I sensed that the atmosphere among the Bird Tribe was somewhat off, so I stood up and returned to the Beast Tribe's seating area.
Dumeng Princess looked surprised when she saw me return, then she burst into laughter.
"What are you laughing at?" I asked, feeling quite frustrated as I looked at Dumeng Princess.
"Of course, I'm just watching you. Why do you look so disheveled? Did the Beastmen chase you back?" Dumeng Princess teased.
"Are you really that happy?" I asked, noticing the joy on Dumeng Princess's face, which made me feel a little better inside.
At first, Dumeng Princess always seemed so fierce, but after spending some time together, I realized she was actually quite adorable.
"Yes, I'm very happy," Dumeng Princess said, lifting her chin with a smile.
In a moment of distraction, I suddenly saw Ruoxi's face in Dumeng Princess's features. I remembered Ruoxi's smile; it was just as beautiful.
"What are you looking at?" Dumeng Princess asked.
"I... nothing," I replied, my face suddenly turning red.
"Are you sure?" Dumeng Princess tilted her head playfully at me.
I shifted my gaze to the stage and said, "Yes."
