The voice sent a shiver down my spine; it was so familiar. I looked up and saw Matchmaker.
Just as I was about to speak, Matchmaker chuckled lightly, casting a meaningful glance at me. My eyes widened in surprise; every movement mirrored that of the paper figure Boss.
"You are the paper figure Boss," I exclaimed in astonishment.
Upon hearing my words, Matchmaker's expression darkened. He glanced around before closing the door, then spun around a few times in front of me. Suddenly, black mist enveloped us both.
Matchmaker transformed back into the form of the paper figure Boss, saying, "Wang Niu, do you know what the human world, the heavenly realm, and even the Underworld have become?"
I hesitated for a moment, recalling the curse I had cast at a critical moment. "Is it... non-existent now?"
As soon as my voice fell, a mass of black energy wrapped around me like sturdy ropes, binding me tightly and preventing any escape. I looked at the paper figure Boss in confusion, wondering what this meant.
The paper figure Boss sneered at me, his gaze filled with deep resentment. He extended his hand, and suddenly I found myself suspended in mid-air. Flames of anger flickered in his eyes as he said, "Do you know what you did wrong?"
I hesitated, feeling a wave of guilt wash over me, unable to meet his gaze.
With a swift motion, the paper figure Boss raised his hand, and I fell heavily to the floor. Pain shot through my entire body.
I frowned slightly, feeling angry; this paper figure Boss was going too far.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
He coldly laughed at me. "Ha! What do you think I'm doing? If it weren't for your mistakes, how could so many people be suffering? You are truly foolish."
I paused, not fully understanding what the paper figure Boss meant.
He strode over to me and lifted me up forcefully. "Do you know that your Captain Wu is still in the Underworld? You used your identity as The King of the Earth to cast a curse on all three realms. Everyone has suffered because of you. Do you realize how many mistakes you've made? After the Ghost Gate Sect Master died, everything was returning to normal. But because of you, the three realms have fallen back into chaos. Do you understand the magnitude of your errors? The beings in the heavenly realm cannot touch you; even if they tried, your identity as The King of the Earth protects you. You could have returned to a normal life with Ruoxi, but all of that has been ruined by your reckless thoughts."
The more he spoke, the angrier he became. My mind went blank; I never expected that I had caused such trouble.
"I... what should I do?" A sense of helplessness washed over me, and the dark mist surrounding me suddenly dissipated. I was no longer bound and fell to the ground.
"Ha, so now you want to know what to do? Do you have any idea where Ruoxi is? Her body and soul are not in the same world," the paper figure Boss's tone grew colder.
"What do you mean Ruoxi's soul and body are not in the same world? Where are they?" I stood up directly, walking excitedly towards the paper figure Boss.
The paper figure Boss snorted coldly and pushed me aside. With a wave of his hand, an image appeared before me.
"Take a good look, and you'll know where Ruoxi's soul and body are," the paper figure Boss said before turning his back to me.
My heart sank as I looked at the image before me.
All I could see was darkness, with nothing visible, but I could hear Ruoxi's voice. Gradually, points of starlight began to appear in the image, and my heart raced. Was I about to see Ruoxi?
I gripped myself tightly in excitement, my gaze fixed on the image. Soon, an island appeared in the picture, surrounded by sea. Not only that, but there were Shadows floating on the surface of the water, creating an eerie atmosphere.
"What is that?" I asked the paper figure Boss.
"That sea is called the Solitary Sea. The Shadows drifting within it are known as Soulcatcher Fish. They are extremely ferocious creatures, half-ghost and half-fish, similar in nature to the Evil Spirits in hell. If you encounter them, they will devour your soul. A person without a soul becomes like a walking corpse—essentially dead. There is an island in the Solitary Sea where a soul is imprisoned; that is Ruoxi's soul. You must have heard Ruoxi's voice before," the paper figure Boss explained.
I quickly nodded and said, "Yes, but it was only for a moment; then Ruoxi's voice disappeared."
The paper figure Boss nodded. "That's right because there is a mysterious force surrounding that island in the Solitary Sea. Naturally, Ruoxi's soul cannot communicate with you for long."
"What should we do? What kind of world is this?" I looked at the paper figure Boss.
The paper figure Boss stepped outside and gazed at the sky. Curiosity piqued within me as I followed him outside and looked up at the sky. "Earlier, weren't you with Ruoxi? How could her soul be in the Solitary Sea? Also, you haven't told me where Ruoxi's body is."
The paper figure Boss suddenly turned around sharply. "We were together, but everything changed because of one of your actions. I am not controlled by the forces of the Three Realms and am not affected by that poison curse you cast. But Ruoxi is different. When chaos engulfed the Three Realms, I was about to take Ruoxi away from it. However, she originally belonged to the heavens and was inevitably drawn into it. I only brought her essence here while her body remained in the Three Realms. What you need to do now is go to the lonely island and bring Ruoxi's soul back. Then use the power of these tribes to open this world's Heavenly Bridge so we can return to the Three Realms and restore your identity as king. Don't forget; we had a deal."
At that moment, the voice of Dumeng Princess reached me. The paper-made Boss shot a sharp glance to the left, then quickly turned his head and said, "You need to hurry back to your room. Remember what I told you—don't tell anyone. If anything goes wrong, it's something neither of us can bear. I'll come find you tomorrow."
After saying that, the paper-made Boss vanished.
Dumeng Princess walked up to me, glanced at the spot where the Boss had disappeared, and looked at me with curiosity. Under her gaze, I felt a sudden sense of guilt.
Dumeng Princess seemed to have drunk quite a bit; she swayed unsteadily, giving off an impression that she could fall at any moment. I instinctively supported her; after all, we were still officially husband and wife. Perhaps there were Beast Tribe members nearby watching our every move. If we were going to act, we needed to make it convincing.
I picked up Dumeng Princess and discreetly scanned the surroundings. To my surprise, I spotted Beast King and several ministers from the Beast Tribe observing us from the shadows.
In my arms, Dumeng Princess suddenly realized her position. Seeing herself nestled against me, she was startled and attempted to distance herself. I quickly said to her, "Be careful; there are people around. Do you want our transaction to be exposed?"
Upon hearing my words, Dumeng Princess seemed to understand something. She looked around and asked, "Are you saying there are people nearby?"
I nodded and mentioned the presence of Beast King and his ministers. Dumeng Princess paused for a moment before saying, "Let's go inside."
I carried Dumeng Princess into the room and closed the door behind us. She angrily sat on the bed and glanced out the window, saying, "I didn't expect my father and the others to distrust me so much."
I chuckled lightly and replied, "Isn't that normal? Now that we are married, do you have any plans for what we should do next?"
Just as Dumeng Princess was about to speak, she seemed to remember something and said, "Wait a minute. Why do you look so familiar with that fortune teller? Who is she to you?"
Dumeng Princess stood up, looking very alert as she approached me for scrutiny.
"It's nothing; you must have seen it wrong. Yes, that was indeed the fortune teller, but she only came to discuss some matters with me. Don't you know I'm not from this world? The fortune teller is one of your Beast Tribe members; how could I possibly know her?" My heart was steady as I tried not to let Dumeng Princess see anything amiss.
"Really?" Dumeng Princess's eyes were filled with suspicion.
I quickly nodded in affirmation, and only then did Dumeng Princess seem satisfied. Her gaze shifted elsewhere as she said, "Of course, we need to subdue the Fire Tribe and Water Tribe along with other tribes."
"What do you mean by this assessment, and until when?" I suddenly felt like I was being played.
The Dumeng Princess was unconcerned. She stood up and said, "What are you afraid of? Didn't the shaman say you would gain a mysterious power? Just now, my people told me something. They said that shamans from other tribes are all talking about you."
"What do you mean?" I stepped in front of the Dumeng Princess.
She looked me over and said, "I really can't understand what makes you so special. Why is it that people from every tribe are fighting over you? From now on, you'd better stay close to me. If someone from another tribe takes you away, your life will be in danger."
I was confused by her words. What did she mean that everyone was fighting over me?
"Look at that silly expression on your face. Alright, go to sleep now. Tomorrow morning, we'll go find the shaman, and you'll know," she said, immediately flying onto the bed. Pointing at me, she added, "Don't even think about coming up here, or I'll kill you."
I hesitated and glanced at the floor. Did that mean I had to sleep on the floor?
"Where am I supposed to sleep?"
The Dumeng Princess looked at the floor with a mischievous glint in her eye and said, "What do you think? There are bed sheets and blankets in the cupboard; you can make yourself a bed on the ground."
With that, she closed her eyes and went to sleep.
I felt a bit helpless. How unfortunate this was; after all, it was supposed to be a night of celebration.
