Seeing my hesitation, she understood what I was thinking and said, "Give it a try; it might just work."
I nodded and stepped into the center, following the directions Xiaomei had taught me. Time passed, but nothing happened, which made me anxious. Was it not going to work?
Just then, I felt something emanating from me, extending upward.
I noticed that the Fire Spirit above seemed to move slightly. Although it was just for a moment, my heart raced with excitement. I hurriedly recited the incantation in my mind, and in an instant, we heard a sound—a dragon's roar.
"We did it! Look, the Fire Spirit has awakened!" The woman's voice came through, filled with excitement.
Suddenly, the Fire Spirit appeared before us. It was a dragon, sparks flying from its body. These sparks seemed harmless. To my surprise, the Fire Spirit charged toward me. I thought it was going to attack, but instead, it knelt before me. This left me astonished; was the Fire Spirit not going to ambush me?
"Wang Niu, don’t just stand there! It’s recognizing you as its master. Quickly, drop your blood in its eyes!" Xiaomei urged me.
I quickly bit my finger and let a drop of blood fall into the Fire Spirit's eyes. In an instant, I felt the flames on the Fire Spirit grow even stronger. The Fire Spirit let out a long roar and leaped onto the water's surface, creating a bridge.
Xiaomei and the woman became excited. "Look! We can cross now!"
With that, Xiaomei and the woman stepped onto the bridge formed by the Fire Spirit. I was surprised but followed them onto its back, not expecting that I had actually tamed the Fire Spirit.
After we crossed over, the Fire Spirit returned to its dragon form and flew into my chest. To my astonishment, a dragon pattern appeared on my chest.
"This is great! I can’t believe you have two guardian spirits now," Xiaomei said as she looked at my chest.
I was taken aback by her words; the Fire Spirit had indeed become my guardian spirit.
At that moment, the woman approached as well, her gaze complex as she looked at my chest, seemingly deep in thought. I noted her complicated expression in my mind.
"Let’s go. Beyond this Demon Moon Pool lies the territory of the beast," the woman reminded us.
I nodded, but just as we were about to leave, suddenly the Demon Moon Pool vanished and turned into flat ground.
"Is there going to be a problem?" I thought uneasily as I stared at where the Demon Moon Pool had been.
Hearing my words, Xiaomei looked around cautiously and said, "There might be something; everyone stay alert."
We continued walking, following the map above, which indicated that after passing the Demon Moon Pool, we would reach Xiezhi Cave, the dwelling place of the divine beast.
We arrived at a location filled with bones. If I guessed correctly, this was Xiezhi Cave.
"Look, there are so many bones here," I said, pointing at the scattered remains on the ground to Xiaomei and the woman.
"Yes, these are the bones left by the divine beasts of past leaders. Whenever an Ancient Divine Beast of a generation is eliminated, its body is consumed by the divine beast spawned by the next leader to increase its own power," the woman explained.
"In that case, dealing with Xiezhi will be quite difficult," Xiaomei frowned.
The woman nodded, and just then, I sensed a change in the atmosphere around us. It seemed that Xiezhi had appeared nearby and was watching us.
"Everyone be careful," I warned.
"It's coming." Just as the woman finished speaking, a towering figure emerged behind me.
I shuddered as I saw Xiezhi's shadow cast on the ground before me. My eyes widened in realization, and when I tried to dodge to the side, it was already too late. Xiezhi's claw struck my back with tremendous force, and in an instant, I felt as if all my bones were about to shatter.
"Wang Niu!" Xiaomei's anxious voice reached my ears.
At that moment, I felt fire surging through my insides as I coughed up Black Blood, feeling utterly weakened.
Then, I was swallowed whole by Xiezhi.
Xiezhi's body was enormous. I fell into its interior, which resembled a cavern filled with Eerie Green liquid that looked repulsive, along with a massive intestine.
Suddenly, a powerful Gas erupted from a large hole beside me, lifting me off the ground.
Next, I saw a massive column of water cascading down from above, drenching me completely. A few seconds later, I suddenly felt something was wrong; my body seemed to be slowly shrinking.
When the Gas dissipated, I crashed onto the ground and realized that my body had indeed shrunk significantly. My mind went blank in shock.
At that moment, I heard commotion from above. Remembering the water column that had appeared earlier, I wondered if it was coming back again.
I quickly checked my body; now I had shrunk by a quarter. If this continued, I would end up as a little dwarf.
I quickly ducked into a small hole nearby, and barely a second after I hid, a column of water came crashing down from above.
I took a deep breath, relieved that I had managed to find shelter just in time.
Suddenly, I heard a sound behind me, like the beating of drums. I turned around to see where it was coming from; it seemed to be echoing from the narrow path ahead.
Following the sound, I stepped into the path. It was extremely narrow, forcing me to walk sideways. The walls were slick and had a sticky feel to them.
This made me think—could this be the intestines of Xiezhi?
A wave of nausea washed over me as I quickened my pace. After exiting the narrow path, I took another deep breath; the sound was getting closer.
My heart raced with excitement as I entered an opening, but what I saw inside left me astonished.
Before me lay a tangled mass of intestines, crisscrossing in every direction. In the center of this grotesque sight was an enormous heart, pulsating rhythmically.
Could that be Xiezhi's heart?
I suddenly felt a surge of adrenaline. If I could destroy Xiezhi's heart, would that mean I could escape from its body?
With that thought in mind, I moved closer to Xiezhi's heart. However, before I could take more than a few steps forward, the intestines seemed to come alive and lunged at me. In an instant, the intestines surrounding Xiezhi's heart closed in on me, completely restraining me. I found myself suspended in mid-air; the more I struggled, the tighter they constricted around me. My face flushed red as I realized that my strength seemed to be draining away, absorbed by these writhing intestines.
