"There's nothing that can't be done, just follow what he says." I knew the child wouldn't say such things without reason; there must be a special intention behind it, so I went along with the child's words.
Seeing my response, the woman stopped talking and directly handed me something resembling a card, saying, "This is a door card. Just hold it up to the big tree, and you can enter."
I nodded and took the item from her hand. Just as I was about to walk towards the uncle at the end with Captain Wu and the others, the woman suddenly grabbed my arm, looking as if she wanted to say something but hesitated.
I was taken aback and looked at her in confusion. The child approached, glaring fiercely at the woman and forcefully pulled her hand away from me, scolding her.
The woman was frightened and knelt down, trembling as she said, "Dear adults, I didn't mean any harm. I just have a small request that I hope you can fulfill."
Her sudden statement made the three of us present feel uneasy. I asked her what it was.
With a sly smile, she stood up and glanced around before saying, "I've heard that tonight's Feast of Demons will have Heart Soup. I really want to taste it. Could you let me have a sample? Just secretly bring some out from the Feast of Demons."
Captain Wu and I exchanged glances and asked her what benefit there would be in doing that.
The woman looked at us mysteriously and whispered, "You must know that not long ago, the cult leader captured a human, right?"
My heart sank; she was referring to Uncle Tiger.
Feigning calmness, I nodded. Seeing our interest, she continued, "Do you know what the cult leader intends to do with this human?"
I shook my head and looked at her. She went on, "It's to threaten the King of Humanity. I've heard that the King of Humanity is slowly awakening, and that captured human has great favor with him. As long as he is around, the King of Humanity will be restrained. This way, the human world will truly belong to our Ghost Gate Cult. Who knows? Both Heaven and the Underworld might become ours."
Hearing this made my heart sink even further; I hadn't expected the Ghost Gate Cult to have such grand ambitions.
"What else is there?" I asked her.
The woman smiled lightly and chose not to continue speaking, her meaning clear: a trade of one thing for another.
This information was crucial to me, and I couldn't press further. Showing too much eagerness would not be wise; it could easily reveal my intentions.
I let out a cold laugh and said, "What does this have to do with us?"
The woman grew anxious and replied directly, "How could it not? Perhaps the two Hall Masters might have a chance to turn things around and even become the sect leader."
"What do you mean?" My eyes lit up as I stared intently at her.
The woman chuckled softly and said, "I know quite a bit about the Ghost Gate Cult, but you two Hall Masters will need to give me something sweet in return, won't you?"
After saying this, she walked away.
I intended to chase after her for more questions, but the child held me back, saying, "Don't rush. Let's go inside first."
I nodded and followed the child along with Captain Wu until we reached the large tree at the end. There were many birdhouses here, indicating that a lot of people had come for tonight's Feast of Demons.
I took out the access card the woman had given me and held it up to the tree. A beam of light shone from the center of the tree.
After a moment, the light transformed into a wooden ladder that extended down from the tree.
"Climb up. Let's rest for a bit; we have important matters to attend to tonight."
We nodded and ascended the stone steps. Once inside the room, we looked around; it was quite similar to a hotel.
After resting for a while, we were awakened by various noises in the evening. At that moment, there was a knock at the door. My heart skipped a beat—could it be that the Ghost Gate Cult had discovered us?
"Everyone, stay alert," I said.
I cautiously approached the door and took a defensive stance. Suddenly, a woman's voice came from outside, "Are you two Hall Masters ready?"
Upon hearing that voice, I realized it wasn't the same woman from before, and my heart instantly relaxed. I opened the door to find a woman with a cheerful expression saying, "I'm here to take you two Hall Masters to the location of the Feast of Demons."
As she spoke, I discreetly surveyed my surroundings. By this time, several Hall Masters had already descended from their chambers, each accompanied by a woman.
I nodded, and Captain Wu and the others emerged upon hearing the commotion.
Seeing that everyone had gathered, the woman called for us to follow her. Along the way, she introduced various places we passed, but we were too preoccupied to pay attention, focusing instead on discreetly assessing the terrain and communicating among ourselves.
After a while, the woman stopped and said, "This is the location of the Ghost Feast."
Our gazes turned toward the Open Platform before us.
It resembled an altar-like Open Platform with a tall stone dais. Above it were numerous stars that appeared quite eerie.
Surrounding the dais were upright human bones, with the main seats at the far end of the Open Platform, followed by guest seats and hall seats.
Each position was filled with various "foods," looking quite abundant.
"Be careful; there are hidden formations on this Open Platform," a child's voice echoed in my mind.
I felt a jolt and exchanged a knowing glance with the child. The woman led us onto the Open Platform and pointed to positions closest to the main and guest seats, saying, "Hall Masters, this is your spot. Don't forget to leave me some human soup!"
After saying that, she left, and I noticed many Hall Masters had already taken their seats.
However, it was strange that there seemed to be no communication among them, and the atmosphere was quite cold.
I nudged Captain Wu, signaling him to look. Captain Wu scanned the room and nodded. We didn’t say anything.
After a while, all the seats on the Open Platform were filled, except for the main and guest positions.
The Hall Masters were sizing each other up, their gazes revealing a hint of malice.
"Which hall are you from?" Suddenly, a cold voice cut through the silence.
I turned to my side and saw a man with a very fierce appearance.
"What does Yin Hall want?" I naturally wouldn’t let my momentum falter against this man.
His eyes lit up, and he flashed a flattering smile. "So you are from Yin Hall? I've heard that you are favored by the Sect Master. What an honor to meet you."
I was taken aback; if the Sect Master of Ghost Gate Cult recognized us, we would be in trouble. Although the child had used an illusion on us, familiarity could still betray us.
I glanced at the child, who gave me a reassuring look, and I gradually began to relax.
Seeing that I didn’t respond, the man stopped trying to engage me in conversation.
At that moment, ethereal sounds filled the air, and everyone present stood up.
We sensed something as well and stood up with them. Sure enough, the Sect Master of Ghost Gate had arrived.
Before us appeared a cascade of roses on the main seat, creating a dazzling spectacle.
"What is going on?" Captain Wu asked curiously.
"This is the entrance of the Ghost Gate Sect Master," the child explained.
I frowned, surprised that the Ghost Gate Sect Master was so flamboyant.
At that moment, we vaguely saw a Palanquin descending from the sky, carried by people at each corner.
"Welcome, Sect Master." Everyone present bowed respectfully, and we naturally followed suit.
As the Palanquin landed, several individuals stepped out from within.
I was instantly taken aback; this Ghost Gate Sect Master looked nothing like the one I had seen before. The figure before me was very delicate, exuding an enchanting aura.
"Please, everyone take a seat." The Ghost Gate Sect Master seemed quite pleased with the respectful attitude of those around him, extending a hand to signal everyone to sit down while he reclined languidly in his chair.
The crowd settled into their seats, and the Ghost Gate Sect Master's gaze swept over everyone.
"Why do you all seem a bit unfamiliar?" At that moment, his eyes landed on us.
