"Brother Wang Niu, there is a power within you, and you are the King of the Earth." The child's expression was serious, showing no signs of joking.
Upon hearing this, both Captain Wu and I were stunned. Captain Wu's eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at me.
"What did you say? I am the King of the Earth?" My mind went blank in an instant.
"Yes, Brother Wang Niu. I shouldn't be telling you this yet, as you should awaken on your own. However, given the current situation, it cannot be avoided."
As those words left his mouth, I felt as if something in my head was about to explode.
"Brother Wang Niu, hold on. The four red dots on your chest have responded to the call and are helping you awaken," the child said.
I nodded, painfully clutching my head. In just a short while, I felt as if my mind was splitting apart.
The final surge of pain nearly knocked me down completely, but gradually, that painful sensation began to fade away.
I took a deep breath; I was finally okay. At that moment, I was drenched in sweat.
"Brother Wang Niu, are you alright?" The child supported me and asked with concern.
I nodded and stood up. Captain Wu approached and examined me from head to toe. "Are you sure you're fine, little brother?"
I assured him that I was okay and then asked the child what we should do next.
The child replied that since I had already recognized my identity as the King of the Earth, I could try to interact with the barrier set by the Ghost Gate Path and see if the powers of the human realm would respond to me.
I acknowledged this and took my place where those people had stood before. I concentrated on gathering the hidden power deep within me into my palms. Once all my strength was focused there, I pointed my fingers at the large tree in front of me.
In an instant, a beam of golden light shot out from my fingertips, heading straight for the large tree.
We felt a faint wave of energy, and then we saw a light flashing from the tree, rapidly expanding and enveloping the three of us.
Moments later, the light around us vanished, and when we looked around, everything had changed.
"What is this place?" Captain Wu asked.
I also noticed that the surroundings were different. Could it be...?
A child's voice came through, saying, "Yes, we've entered. This is the lair of the Ghost Gate Cult. Everyone needs to be careful."
I glanced around and realized that skulls were hanging on the walls, and inside was a strange blue ghostly flame.
"Wait, we can't just go in like this," the child said, looking at me and Captain Wu.
Captain Wu and I exchanged glances and asked the child what was wrong.
The child replied, "Inside are all members of the Ghost Gate Cult. If we go in like this, it will be very dangerous. We need to disguise ourselves."
After saying that, I noticed a mischievous glint in the child's eyes as he looked at Captain Wu and me, which gave me an uneasy feeling.
Sure enough, the next moment, the child said to us, "You both need to look just like those Ghost Gate Cult members."
"What?" Captain Wu exclaimed in surprise, staring at the child.
The child's smile widened, and I saw his mouth move. Suddenly, a cloud of black mist appeared around Captain Wu, slowly enveloping him.
I looked at Captain Wu with concern and asked the child, "Is this going to cause any problems?"
The child shook his head and replied, "Don't worry, nothing will happen. I'm just using an illusion on Captain Wu. This way, if anyone from the Ghost Gate Cult sees us, they will mistake us for one of their own."
While the child and I were talking, the black mist surrounding Captain Wu gradually dissipated, revealing him transformed into a horse body with a human head.
This version of Captain Wu was hard for me to adjust to, and I instinctively took a few steps back. "This feels so strange."
Captain Wu's face turned red as he realized his bizarre appearance. The child approached me and said, "Brother Wang Niu, it's your turn now, hee hee."
As soon as he finished speaking, I felt a wave of black mist enveloping me. Slowly, I sensed changes happening to my body. When the mist cleared, I was shocked to see that I had also transformed into a horse.
"You look quite strange too, little brother," Captain Wu said with a smile, unable to resist teasing me.
I wanted to return the jest but was interrupted by the child's increasingly serious tone. "I need to tell you both some important things."
Captain Wu and I listened attentively as the child continued, "In the Ghost Gate Cult, there are different ranks. This type is usually at the Hall Master level. So if you encounter anyone from the Ghost Gate Cult checking identities, just claim that you are from Yin Hall. You are the main Hall Master of Yin Hall, and Captain Wu is the deputy Hall Master, understood?"
Hearing this made me a bit anxious. "What if they find out?"
The child shook his head. "There are many factions under the Ghost Gate Cult; no one knows how many there are. The only way to confirm identity is through the Ghost Order badge."
As he spoke, the child produced two strange-looking tokens.
In the child's hand was a skull, and in the center of the hand token was a large character for "ghost," accompanied by a strange pattern on the back.
"Take this; it will make the Ghost Gate Cult members trust your identity more," the child said, handing us the token.
Captain Wu and I accepted the token and secured it at our waists. The child transformed into a Horse Body, becoming our follower.
After passing through this path, we saw many members of the Ghost Gate Cult bustling about, seemingly preparing for the Feast of Demons they had mentioned.
"Which way should we go?" I asked, feeling somewhat dizzy. The members of the Ghost Gate Cult were hanging red lanterns everywhere, creating a festive atmosphere reminiscent of the New Year.
The child nudged me and pointed to a spot where a Snake God's Woman sat alluringly at a counter, her gaze sweeping around.
Captain Wu and I looked over, and the child informed us that she was the steward in charge of all internal affairs within the Ghost Gate Cult, and we needed to report to her.
A sense of unease settled in our hearts; after all, we felt quite vulnerable—this was like stepping into a tiger's den.
We approached the woman, just as her gaze fell upon us, and she flicked out her long tongue.
I swallowed hard. The child shot me a glance, signaling me not to be afraid; she was just an internal affairs manager.
I nodded. The child stepped forward, positioning himself in front of Captain Wu and me. With a serious expression, he addressed the woman, "How dare you not come down to greet two Hall Masters upon their arrival? Do you know the rules of the Ghost Gate Cult?"
The woman was momentarily taken aback by the child's boldness but regained her composure after a few seconds. She descended from behind the counter, swaying her serpentine body closer to Captain Wu and me.
"You say they are Hall Masters? They certainly don't look like it to me," she remarked, her gaze sharp as blades, making both Captain Wu and me feel uneasy.
However, this was a critical moment. If we exposed ourselves in front of the woman, it would be the end for all three of us.
I turned to the woman, my face darkened, and summoned the authority of a Hall Master. I kicked her in the chest, knocking her to the ground, and pulled out the token from my waist to show her. In a cold tone, I said, "Take a good look at what this is."
The woman gasped as she fell to the ground. She had been furious and ready to retaliate against us, but upon seeing the token in my hand, she froze, her complexion turning pale.
Although I didn't know what the rules of the Ghost Gate Cult were that the child mentioned, I could tell from the woman's expression that we had succeeded.
"Are you still not going to apologize to the two Hall Masters? Or do you want to be dealt with according to the rules?" The child shouted at the woman again.
The woman trembled in fear. Our commotion had attracted attention, and soon people began to surround us. The child winked at me, and I understood. I showed them the token.
Upon seeing it, those people knelt down, fear evident on their faces, and called out to me and Captain Wu.
"Greetings, Hall Master."
For a moment, both Captain Wu and I felt as if we were immersed in a martial arts world.
"Alright, everyone get up. This doesn't concern you anymore." I put on a serious demeanor. After they stood up, they cast a complicated glance at the woman lying on the ground before leaving.
"Do you realize your mistake?" I asked the woman on the ground, not wanting to escalate the situation further.
