"Captain Wu!" I heard a voice calling me, and instantly, the cave echoed with his name.
As I descended the stone steps, I was greeted by a ground covered in food, all remarkably fresh. Not only that, but it seemed there were even more treasures deeper inside.
My eyes lit up; I couldn't believe such a wonderful place existed.
"This is also what Uncle Tiger told us, and he instructed you to go ahead alone," Uncle Tiger said, pointing down the path before me.
I hesitated for a moment but then decided to walk forward on my own. Captain Wu stayed behind, waiting for me.
As I reached the middle of the path, I felt a strange force pulling me forward.
After passing through this area, I discovered an array of weapons—various kinds and styles.
I was somewhat astonished; what kind of place was this?
Suddenly, my gaze fell upon a particularly captivating weapon—a sword. It appeared to be of exceptional quality, and it faintly shimmered with a soft white light.
I walked over to the sword and picked it up, admiring its craftsmanship. Suddenly, the sword jerked in my hand. Before I could react, it sliced open my palm.
Instantly, a tingling sensation spread through my hand, accompanied by a slight pain. Blood dripped from my hand onto the sword, and to my surprise, it quickly absorbed the blood. I watched in astonishment as more of my blood continued to seep into the blade.
Then I realized something was wrong—the sword suddenly detached from my grip and floated in front of me. Moments later, a beam of light shot from its center towards my wound, drawing the blood from my body.
In just a short time, I began to feel weak.
I had no idea how to stop this sword. Just when I thought I couldn't take it anymore, the sword abruptly halted.
But due to excessive blood loss, I collapsed onto the ground.
What happened next left me utterly astonished.
The sword in front of me suddenly transformed into a beam of light that seeped out from my body. At first, there was a feeling of expansion, but gradually it became much more comfortable.
My body began to recover its original state, and not only that, I felt as if a powerful force had taken residence within me.
Suddenly, a warmth radiated from my chest, as if something was branded onto my skin. I opened the collar of my shirt and to my surprise, I found another red dot on my chest; now there were two.
What is this?
Suddenly, the cave shook violently.
I was momentarily stunned. What was happening? I looked around and saw the surrounding stone walls trembling, dirt seeping out. Captain Wu appeared behind me and pulled me back, scolding me loudly, "Little brother, are you out of your mind?"
I snapped back to reality and looked at Captain Wu, shaking my head. After I went in, the ground below suddenly collapsed.
"This place has caved in." I gazed at the ruins of the cave, feeling guilty. Before I arrived, this had been where Captain Wu and his team stored their supplies, and now it was reduced to this.
"Don't feel guilty; it was bound to happen. By the way, did you encounter a sword when you went inside?" Captain Wu asked.
I nodded and asked him how he knew.
A joyful smile spread across Captain Wu's face as he replied, "Naturally, Uncle Tiger told me. We didn't go all the way in; that was also what Uncle Tiger instructed. He said only you could enter the innermost part, and the sword you just took is called the Memory Sword. It carries many memories within its blade."
"Memories," I echoed, momentarily confused as I didn't feel anything aside from the new red dot on my chest.
Captain Wu nodded and said, "Yes, Uncle Tiger also mentioned that this sword exists to await its master’s arrival, and you are that master. Little brother, do you feel anything?"
"Master?" My eyes widened in disbelief.
"Yes, this sword has existed for a long time, and this cave only came into being when the Ghost Gate Cult opened the Third World." Xiaomei's voice came from behind me.
I was momentarily stunned, and at the same time, Captain Wu and I looked towards Xiaomei.
"Where's A Yao?" I asked.
Xiaomei looked at me with disdain and said, "How would I know? She's acting like a spoiled princess. Once you all came out, she couldn't hold herself back and just went out."
My heart sank. "Why didn't you stop her?"
Hearing this, Xiaomei got angry and shouted at me, "How could I stop her? Besides, I have nothing to do with her. She's really a troublemaker. What time is it, and she's still throwing a tantrum? It's so annoying."
I shot Xiaomei a glare and returned to the door of the secret room, scanning the surroundings for any traces left by A Yao.
"Hey, little brother, come here! There's something here!" Captain Wu, standing ahead, seemed to have discovered something and crouched down to look at the ground.
I quickly joined him and followed his gaze, spotting a small pouch in the grass. I recognized it; it was the pouch I had given to A Yao earlier.
"Do you think Miss A-Yao went that way?" Captain Wu stood up and pointed in a direction.
I looked over and felt a jolt of anxiety. The direction he pointed was known to be frequented by members of the Ghost Gate Cult.
"If that's the case, we should hurry. We might be able to find A Yao right away," I said as I started walking towards the direction Captain Wu indicated.
"Little brother, if we go that way, we'll run into Ghost Gate Cult members," Captain Wu stopped me.
At that moment, my mind was racing; all I could think about was finding A Yao. I pushed past Captain Wu and shouted at him that if he wasn't going to come along, I would go by myself. Captain Wu had no choice but to follow me in search of A Yao.
When we reached an altar, we spotted A Yao's figure.
Just as I was about to rush over to pull her back, Captain Wu stopped me and whispered, "Little brother, are you crazy? Can't you see Miss A-Yao is acting strangely? She looks like a madwoman."
I paused for a moment, looking at Captain Wu with confusion before shifting my gaze to A Yao.
A Yao seemed a bit off, pacing back and forth on the altar with a dazed smile on his face, resembling a three-year-old child.
"When did this altar appear?" I turned around and asked Captain Wu.
Captain Wu was taken aback for a moment, surprised as he replied, "I'm not sure. It seems like it was built after the Ghost Gate Cult altered this place."
Instantly, a heavy feeling settled in my heart. Although there were no members of the Ghost Gate Cult guarding this area, something was definitely wrong with the altar.
The compass I had tucked away in my pocket began to stir at that moment. I took it out and noticed the needle was jumping erratically.
"Little brother, what's wrong with the compass?" Captain Wu seemed to sense something and asked me.
"This altar is indeed problematic. Only ghosts can affect the compass. I suspect there’s a large gathering of spirits around this altar, and A Yao's condition might be disturbed by the magnetic field here," I explained.
"Why wasn't I affected by it then?" Captain Wu asked, puzzled.
"That's normal. You carry a heavy aura of killing intent, and your Yang Qi is abundant, allowing you to resist the magnetic field."
Captain Wu nodded thoughtfully, his gaze returning to the altar as he said, "But there are no ghosts here."
I shook my head, stepping forward and placing the compass in front of me. The needle began to shake even more violently.
There must be many restless spirits hidden here.
These spirits were likely those who had died at the hands of the Ghost Gate Cult; their souls must have been suppressed nearby by the cult.
At that moment, I noticed that the altar before me was exceptionally high, towering above everything else.
I cautiously approached the altar, but I was blocked by a strange gas that prevented me from getting any closer.
I reached out my hand, and suddenly a damp sensation enveloped my palm. Not only that, but I also felt a chill in the air.
“Captain Wu, come here.”
Captain Wu walked over to me and asked what was wrong.
I pointed ahead and said, “It seems there’s a Yin Barrier here.”
Captain Wu paused for a moment and asked me what a Yin Barrier was.
I explained, “A Yin Barrier is a realm formed by Yin Qi. A Yao might be immersed in an illusion within the Yin Barrier. Look, doesn’t A Yao seem very happy? It’s as if she’s out shopping.”
Captain Wu glanced over and nodded in agreement with my observation. He then asked how we could dispel the Yin Barrier.
I circled around the altar a few times and discovered that the altar was surrounded by a circular Yin Barrier.
After thinking for a moment, I threw the compass into the air, and it landed perfectly at the center of the entire circle. Then, I focused my energy to activate the compass.
