The scene before me had transformed into a wasteland, leaving me in shock. I turned to Ruoxi and asked what had happened. Could it really be that my curiosity about the books in the Heavenly Secrets Pavilion had caused this?
Ruoxi glanced back at me, her expression still cold. "This is just a small warning from the heavens. This is not the price you will pay. Fortunately, you did not open that book. If you had seen its contents, the entire Madness Realm would have been destroyed by your hands."
Her words sent a chill down my spine, and I took a deep breath, feeling anxious. I never imagined that a moment of curiosity could nearly lead to such disaster.
I felt a wave of guilt wash over me and asked Ruoxi how I could make amends for the Madness Realm.
Ruoxi shook her head, saying there was no need for compensation; this was a trial they had to endure. After saying this, she left the city tower, and I glanced back at the devastation before following her out.
Once we descended from the tower, Ruoxi stopped and turned to face me with a serious expression. "Do you really want to know what you heard that day in the back garden?"
I hesitated, my heart racing. Did Ruoxi know I was there? I lowered my gaze, unable to meet her probing eyes.
Ruoxi smiled knowingly and stepped closer, lifting my chin. "Your aura has leaked out. If you want me not to notice your presence, you must learn to conceal your aura. You haven't mastered this yet. If you wish to become strong, these are things you must achieve. Do you know why the Ghost Gate Cult can act with impunity in your realm? It's because you're not strong enough to stop them."
As she spoke, I suddenly felt a burning sensation on my face, as if I had been slapped hard.
Seeing my flushed cheeks, Ruoxi chuckled lightly and teased, "Are you still embarrassed? You have become the lord of all citizens of Madness Realm and my husband as well. Are you afraid that you won't grow? Besides, you have an identity."
I was taken aback and looked at Ruoxi, noticing a complex emotion in her eyes.
"Come with me to a place," she said with a mysterious look.
I nodded and followed her to a location I didn't expect—her room.
As I entered, I was met with pink curtains filling the space, leaving me bewildered as I tried to understand Ruoxi's intentions for bringing me here.
"Come here," Ruoxi suddenly called out to me.
I snapped back to reality and looked at Ruoxi, who was standing in front of a Bronze Wardrobe. I walked over, and Ruoxi smiled at me, saying, "This isn't where I wanted to bring you; it's over here."
As she spoke, Ruoxi pointed at the wardrobe. I was puzzled; what could possibly be inside the wardrobe?
Ruoxi opened the wardrobe, and I peered inside with a confused expression. To my surprise, I saw a swirl of white light. The brightness made it impossible to discern what was inside.
"Go in; you'll find out," Ruoxi said suddenly, giving me a push. In an instant, I was shoved into the wardrobe, and at the same time, I felt a strong force pulling me in.
In that moment, my body felt weightless.
After a while, the white light vanished, and I suddenly lunged toward something. Before I could react, a sharp pain shot through me, causing me to grit my teeth.
Once the pain subsided, I realized I was in a cave.
I stood up and brushed off the dust from my clothes, carefully examining the cave before me. It seemed like someone lived here; various toiletries were scattered around, along with a table and a washbasin—nothing much different from an ordinary room.
At that moment, my gaze was drawn to a piece of clothing that resembled a Dragon Robe.
I approached it, feeling inexplicably drawn to the dragon pattern on the robe. It looked incredibly lifelike and exuded an aura of power. Unable to resist, I raised my hand and placed it on the dragon design. Instantly, I felt energy coursing from the pattern into my hand—a warm sensation.
I was taken aback and instinctively pulled my hand away. The power dissipated immediately, leaving me surprised as I scrutinized the Dragon Robe once more.
Suddenly, fragmented images flashed through my mind.
I frowned as waves of pain surged in my head. Shaking it slightly, an image of a man wearing the Dragon Robe appeared in my mind.
I wanted to see his face clearly but couldn't make it out. The man turned toward me; although his features were obscured, I felt his piercing gaze fixed intently on me.
I felt a bit uneasy; it was a kind of illusion in my mind, yet it made me feel as if I were truly immersed in that scene.
"You are too weak; you don't deserve your current identity," the man said to me coldly.
I seemed to see a look of disdain on his face.
As soon as he finished speaking, the man vanished, and I found myself back in reality. However, I noticed that the Dragon Robe in front of me suddenly caught fire. I froze for a moment before realizing I needed to extinguish it, but by then it was too late; the Dragon Robe turned to ashes before my eyes.
I was somewhat stunned. At that moment, the cave began to shake violently, causing everything inside to topple over. The tremendous noise attracted Ruoxi.
"What happened?" Ruoxi asked, her face filled with confusion.
I looked at the fallen objects, my mind in disarray. Seeing this, Ruoxi pulled me outside. By the time we stepped out, the cave had returned to its original state.
Ruoxi's gaze remained fixed on the cave, as if she were pondering something, while my thoughts lingered in that recent illusion.
Who was that man?
Suddenly, Ruoxi's hand tightened around my neck, pulling me back to the present moment.
Although Ruoxi was a woman, her strength at that moment was frighteningly powerful. I couldn't break free. For some reason, I saw disappointment in Ruoxi's eyes.
