As I entered the dark space, it suddenly became incredibly bright, leaving me momentarily disoriented. Just moments ago, when the figure in white had stepped inside, it hadn't looked like this at all.
My instincts kicked in immediately, and I began to tread carefully. I glanced around, wary of any hidden mechanisms; places like this were often fraught with traps.
However, after walking for a while without encountering any danger, my vigilance began to wane. The path was wide but short, and soon enough, I found myself standing before a stone door.
Etched above the two stone doors were three large characters: Heavenly Secrets Pavilion.
I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement as I strode toward the stone doors. I assumed I could simply push them open, but to my surprise, they remained completely still.
Looking around again, I thought it impossible that I couldn't get in; after all, how could the figure in white have retrieved anything from within?
Suddenly, I noticed something odd on the left stone door—a faint outline of a handprint.
I gently touched it, and to my astonishment, a glimmer of golden light emanated from the door, revealing a handprint before me.
I hesitated. Did I need to match the handprint to open the door?
After a moment's deliberation, I steeled myself and placed my palm against it. My hand was clearly much larger than the imprint, but then something strange happened: the handprint beneath my palm began to expand gradually until it aligned with my hand.
I was taken aback. What was happening?
With a loud rumble, the closed stone doors swung open, revealing countless books inside—just like a modern bookstore.
I stood there in a daze, lowering my hand as I stepped inside, only to be greeted by a heavy scent of dust.
I cleared my throat a few times, took a deep breath, and walked in. The place was filled with books, with tall iron shelves lined up in rows, each one packed with various kinds of books. However, every book was covered in thick layers of dust, as if no one had cleaned this place or flipped through any of the books.
Curiosity piqued, I wondered what the Green-Clad Woman meant by the Heavenly Book. I looked around but didn’t see anything particularly special.
I approached the nearest shelf and picked up a book. As I did, a cloud of dust settled on the back of my hand. I gently shook it off and finally saw the title; it was a book I couldn't read. The characters on it were not Chinese but resembled Oracle Bone Script.
I flipped through the pages, but the content was even more incomprehensible—like drawings that lacked life.
I returned the book to its place and searched for another one. To my dismay, several more books yielded no understanding, which began to wear down my patience.
Suddenly, I spotted something across the aisle that caught my eye—a book was glowing brightly.
I hurried over to the opposite shelf. There was an iron rack nearby, so I quickly moved it over and climbed up. Just as I reached for the glowing book, an unexpected tremor shook the ground beneath me. The shelves swayed violently, and before I knew it, the shelf in front of me collapsed, causing a domino effect that brought down all the other shelves. Stunned, I was about to leave when the iron rack I stood on also toppled over, pinning me beneath it.
What was happening?
Gritting my teeth, I pushed against the fallen shelf with all my might. At that moment, a small opening appeared at the top of the shelf—just big enough for me to escape. Determined, I dropped the book in my hands and quickly crawled out. Just then, I heard footsteps approaching, sending a jolt of fear through me. What if someone found me? I hurriedly hid in a concealed spot as a group of guards rushed in, followed closely by someone in white.
“What happened here? How did it end up like this?” The figure in white surveyed the scene before them, their expression growing colder.
“White-Clad Lord, someone must have entered,” one of the guards replied.
The figure in white scanned the area, frowning deeply. Just as he was about to order the guards to search this place, Ruoxi appeared.
