Upon seeing the child, Captain Wu froze for a moment before immediately drawing his pistol. Clearly, he had mistaken the child for an Evil Spirit.
I stepped in front of Captain Wu and said, "The child means us no harm; in fact, he is here to help us."
Hearing this, the child smiled and extended his hand toward Captain Wu, saying, "Hello, big brother! I am this brother's guardian spirit."

I was taken aback. How could the child know that Captain Wu and I had been looking for He Wei?
Seeing my astonished expression, the child chuckled and explained that as my guardian spirit, he had inherited my memories, so it was only natural for him to know.
It dawned on me that Xiaomei must also be aware of my situation.
Suddenly, I felt a bit embarrassed, my face flushing involuntarily; after all, Xiaomei was a woman.
Noticing my daze, the child nudged me and pointed inside. "Big brother, you can't go in yet because the things in this mountain are still active. You won't be able to withstand them. You need to wait until nightfall because they will perform a Ritual then. At that time, everything inside will have its power absorbed by this Ritual. After that, you can enter without any problems."
After he finished speaking, Captain Wu chimed in, "Since there will be a Ritual Activity at night, it means there will be many people inside. Don't we need more hands?"
I listened to Captain Wu and nodded. If there were many of them, it wouldn't just be me and Captain Wu who could handle it.
The child shook his head and said, "Having a lot of people isn't necessarily a good thing, and those aren't ordinary people. Remember what Director Huang said before?"
Captain Wu and I were taken aback, not understanding the child's words. The child explained, "Director Huang mentioned that while they were on a mission, they happened to see members of the Ghost Gate Cult performing the Dragon Head Ritual. Tonight's ritual is exactly the Dragon Head Ritual and the Yin-Yang Festival."
"What do you mean? Are you saying that the Ghost Gate Cult will show up tonight?" Captain Wu immediately understood.
The child nodded and confirmed, urging us to prepare some Dog Blood. This would help dispel the evil energy that might leak from them during the night; otherwise, inhaling that energy could lead to serious illness.
I glanced at the mountains, agreed with the child's words, and left with Captain Wu.
We first went to the market and, following the child's advice, bought a few roosters. When we returned to our place, we prepared to bleed them out.
While we were waiting for Boss to catch the chickens for us, I felt a warmth on my right shoulder—Xiaomei had appeared.
Captain Wu and I jumped in surprise; thankfully, Boss didn't see her, or he would have been scared half to death.
I looked at Xiaomei in confusion. Why was she showing up at this time?
Xiaomei shot me a glance and walked ahead without saying anything. I noticed she was heading toward a clothing store.
Could it be that Xiaomei wanted to buy new clothes?
I helplessly withdrew my gaze. She had already become a spirit; why was she still concerned about such things?
After a while, Xiaomei returned, changed into a new outfit. Not only that, but she also held a bag in her hand. She handed it to me and said, "This is for you to give to your girlfriend."

I was stunned for a moment before calling Officer Yuan to ask about A Yao's whereabouts. Officer Yuan informed me that A Yao had gone out with her cousin.
I had never heard A Yao mention having a cousin.
I immediately hung up the phone and urged Boss to hurry. After gathering our things, Captain Wu and I left the market and rushed home, only to find that A Yao was not there. At that moment, Uncle Tiger came out, his gaze fixed on Xiaomei behind me.
He didn't say anything, but Xiaomei seemed unfazed by Uncle Tiger's presence, sitting down with an air of authority.
Uncle Tiger shifted his attention back to me and asked why I looked so anxious.
I asked Uncle Tiger if A Yao had recently gone out with a man.
Uncle Tiger hesitated for a moment before nodding, his expression somewhat resigned. After all, he knew that Captain Wu and I had been busy lately.
My anxiety grew even more. Captain Wu tried to comfort me, telling me not to worry and that she was just out with her cousin—what was there to be concerned about?
But what Captain Wu didn't know was that A Yao didn't actually have a cousin.
"Why are you so anxious? She'll be back soon. Why don't you check at the front door?" Xiaomei's voice came from behind me.
I was momentarily stunned, turning to look at Xiaomei. Just then, the sound of a car came from outside, and I hurried out the door. I saw a very cool car parked at the entrance, and A Yao was just getting out, her face beaming with happiness.
My heart suddenly ached for some reason. Could it be that A Yao really liked someone else?
At that moment, a man got out of the car, carrying a lot of things—mostly women's items.
He handed the things to A Yao, who happily accepted them. To my shock, he even kissed her on the forehead.
I couldn't hold back any longer and rushed over, separating A Yao from the man.
"A Yao, who is he?" I asked angrily.
I felt like A Yao was betraying me. I could understand her previous behavior; after all, she had been under some kind of spell. But now she seemed perfectly normal.
Seeing my anger directed at her, A Yao frowned and immediately became upset. She pushed me away and walked into the house with the things the man had given her. I didn't have time to pay attention to him; I followed A Yao inside.
A Yao seemed furious as she tossed the items onto the sofa and stormed into her room with a dark expression.
I felt an overwhelming sense of helplessness and grievance. It wasn't like I had intentionally ignored A Yao during this time; how could she go out with another man? And using her cousin as an excuse to deceive everyone?
Wasn't this a clear indication that something was off?
Uncle Tiger glanced at me but said nothing as he walked back into the house.
Xiaomei stood up from her chair, looking at me with sympathy. She picked up the things she had previously given me and handed them over, saying, "Wang Niu, women are easy to handle. Just sweet-talk her a bit. Take what I've given you and say a few nice words; it will be fine."
As soon as I heard that, I felt the same way. I picked up Xiaomei's things and walked towards A Yao's room, but at that moment, I overlooked a detail—Xiaomei's sly smile.
Upon arriving at A Yao's room, I gently opened the door to ease her anger from earlier, only to find her sitting on the bed, visibly upset.
I approached A Yao and placed the items Xiaomei had given me in front of her. I softly called her name and embraced her. "A Yao, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to yell at you just now. I saw you with another man, and I got jealous."
A Yao ignored me, her gaze fixed on the bedside. Reluctantly, I took out what was in the bag—a white dress that looked ethereal and beautiful. She would look stunning in it.
"A Yao, please don't be mad at me anymore. Look, this dress is really pretty. If you wear it, you'll look just like a fairy." I moved closer to A Yao, kneeling slightly to present the dress before her.
Finally, A Yao's gaze shifted to me. My heart leaped with joy; it seemed she wasn't as angry anymore.
"Will you try it on?"
A Yao nodded, her expression softening as she took the dress from my hands and walked into the bathroom.
After a while, A Yao emerged, and just as I had imagined, the dress accentuated all her best features. I instinctively swallowed hard and found myself stepping toward her, wrapping my arms around A Yao and planting a kiss on her cheek.
