As we drove along the road, Captain Wu turned to me and said that the Big Boss's house was a bit special. Once we entered, I shouldn't look around too much and just follow him.
I was taken aback for a moment but nodded in agreement. When we arrived at the Big Boss's house, Captain Wu parked the car at the entrance. It was then that I realized this place resembled a military base.
Captain Wu walked to the door and took out his phone, speaking to someone on the other end. After a while, the door opened, revealing an elderly man dressed in a black Zhongshan suit.
Upon seeing me and Captain Wu, he instructed us to wait there for a moment before closing the door again.
I looked at Captain Wu in confusion; there was something odd about this old man.
Captain Wu awkwardly smiled and explained that this was just a rule in the Big Boss's household. Even their leaders had to follow this protocol when visiting. Someone would come to check us, and once everything was cleared, we could go inside.
I frowned slightly, surprised that wealthy people could be so peculiar.
After waiting for a while, the door suddenly swung open, and several oddly dressed individuals emerged from inside. They carried some kind of device and scanned both me and Captain Wu before allowing us entry.
Once inside, I didn’t see a house but rather an empty playground. I was puzzled; what was going on here?
Captain Wu nudged me and whispered that the Big Boss's villa was located at the very back of this area.
I felt somewhat speechless as I followed the elderly man all the way to the back, where I finally saw an opulent villa.
However, I was already feeling quite exhausted.
As I stepped into the villa, I noticed something strange; all the decorations seemed to invite spirits of seduction.
But I kept my thoughts to myself and continued following the elderly man. Captain Wu noticed my gaze wandering around and my occasional frown; he quietly asked what was wrong.
I whispered my observations to Captain Wu, who looked at me in surprise and asked if there were really spirits in this villa.
I shook my head; I hadn’t noticed anything so far.
The bedroom of Big Boss was on the fourth floor. Upon entering, I was hit by a strong, peculiar odor that resembled that of an animal—somewhere between a fox and a dog.
I frowned and stopped in my tracks. The elderly man leading us noticed my reaction and asked what was wrong.
Captain Wu looked at me in confusion as well, so I had no choice but to admit that there was a strange smell in the air.
The old man looked at me curiously and said that their master never kept any animals, so how could there be an animal smell?
I shook my head, saying I didn't know. It was possible I had made a mistake. The old man shot me an annoyed glance and led me and Captain Wu into Big Boss's room.
Once inside, the odor intensified, overwhelming me to the point where I had to step back outside.
After a moment, I re-entered to find Captain Wu apologizing to the old man with a look of regret on his face. I glanced at them before shifting my gaze to the figure lying on the large bed.
This was Big Boss, as Captain Wu had described.
Before coming here, Captain Wu had shown me a photo of Big Boss—a strikingly handsome middle-aged man. However, seeing him in person felt like a stark contrast; the person on the bed looked like a ninety-year-old man.
To make matters worse, there was even an animal tail protruding from above Big Boss's head.
My frown deepened; there was indeed something wrong, and it was serious enough to warrant my attention. I approached the old man with a serious tone and asked if anyone had been in frequent contact with Big Boss recently.
The old man paused at my question, seemingly recalling something, and asked what I meant.
I thought for a moment before explaining that Big Boss's strange illness might be related to those he had been in contact with.
The old man's expression grew even stranger, and he instinctively mentioned a person—someone who had recently caught the fancy of their Big Boss.
A new favorite.
Seeing my puzzled look, the old man explained that before coming here, their Big Boss often visited an entertainment club to see a particular girl. She was very beautiful and quite skilled; after just one night, she managed to get the Big Boss to buy her freedom. Not only that, but he also showered her with gifts, even decorating this villa according to her tastes. However, for some unknown reason, she vanished on the first night after arriving here.
After the old man finished speaking, I suddenly understood something and asked him if he had a photo of that girl or any clothing items belonging to her.
The old man looked at me curiously and asked what I needed those for.
I replied seriously that if we didn’t find these things, we might as well prepare for their Big Boss to collect a corpse.
The old man was startled and didn’t press further; he immediately went to fetch what I requested.
Once he left, Captain Wu approached me and asked if I had figured something out.
I nodded and pointed to the top of Big Boss's head, saying, "There’s an animal's tail appearing in that spot, but you probably can’t see it."
Captain Wu paused for a moment, seemingly intrigued. He said, "Little brother, I want to see too. If you can see it, let me take a look as well."
I agreed and took out the bag I had with me. It was a gift from Uncle Tiger, and I knew it contained many useful items.
I pulled out a small vial filled with black liquid. I poured a little out and applied it just under Captain Wu's eyelid.
A few minutes later, I let Captain Wu open his eyes and asked him if he saw anything.
Captain Wu was momentarily stunned, then nodded at me, saying he saw a tail.
I acknowledged him with a sound and walked over to Big Boss's side, extending my hand to touch the tail. Just as I made contact, within seconds, the tail hanging above Big Boss suddenly swiped towards my hand, sending a sharp pain coursing through my entire arm.
I winced in pain and frowned, surprised that this thing was so powerful.
"Little brother, what's wrong?" Captain Wu asked with concern.
I suppressed the pain and pointed at the tail on Big Boss's head, saying, "This thing is formidable; we can't act recklessly."
Captain Wu looked over and after a few seconds returned his gaze to me, saying, "So what should we do? If we don't remove the tail from Big Boss's head, he won't recover."
I knew that well enough, but we needed to understand what was going on to find a better solution.
At that moment, the old man arrived, holding two items in his hands and handed them to me.
Upon looking closely, I realized they were exactly what I needed: a photograph of a woman and a piece of her clothing.
Just as the old man had said, she was a very beautiful woman. However, her clothing had a strange odor that felt oddly familiar—almost like the scent of this villa.
No, it was definitely the scent from inside this villa.
However, this does not rule out the possibility that the scent from the villa had seeped into my clothes. To be sure, I walked over to the old man and sniffed his clothing, only to find that there was no smell. Suddenly, I felt a sense of clarity wash over me.
I was excited and told the old man, "It's her."
The old man and Captain Wu looked at me with confusion, as if they found my actions strange.
Captain Wu asked me what I meant by that.
I explained that I had found the reason for Big Boss's strange illness: it was the woman the old man mentioned. It was possible that she was not human but rather a demon.
"You shouldn't say such things lightly, young man. Although I don't like that woman either, how could she possibly be a demon?" The old man seemed skeptical of my words and looked at me with doubt.
I could understand the old man's perspective; after all, he had never encountered anything so bizarre. Captain Wu, however, was different. He pulled me away from the old man and said we would come back another day.
