I followed Captain Wu into The Institution, where we were met with a grim sight. The Institution pointed to the corpse in front of us and said, "This is the body we recovered." 0

Captain Wu and I exchanged glances, just as we were about to approach when The Institution stopped us. We looked at The Institution, who wore an expression that suggested he had more to say. Noticing this, we asked him what was wrong. 0

After a brief pause, The Institution replied, "You don't understand. The body that was sent back has issues; it's not the same as before. Their bodies have been completely hollowed out, filled with dark larvae—many of them—almost filling the entire cavity. We were shocked when we opened it up; it took us a while to seal their bellies back up." 0

Captain Wu and I were taken aback by this revelation but still moved closer to examine the body. 0

Due to the passage of time, the corpses had begun to show signs of decomposition, with spots appearing on their skin. Not only that, but their flesh seemed incredibly rigid, and their bellies were noticeably distended, as if something inside was wriggling. 0

Captain Wu stared in disbelief and said, his face pale, "Little brother, this is strange. The bodies we retrieved before didn't look like this. What happened to these?" 0

I furrowed my brow; these larvae shouldn't have been there originally. Had someone placed them inside the corpses? 0

I asked The Institution if anyone could access these bodies. 0

The Institution nodded and explained that all staff at the hospital could come into contact with them. Hearing this made me uneasy; tracing back who might have done this would be quite difficult. 0

At that moment, Captain Wu seemed to recall something and said to The Institution, "Pull up the surveillance footage from the past few months." 0

Soon after, The Institution retrieved the surveillance footage for us. Captain Wu and I settled into an office to review it for any suspicious individuals or activities. 0

Before we knew it, it was already nine in the evening. If it hadn't been for A Yao calling me, I might have lost track of time entirely. 0

A Yao was frightened that Feng Jie would come after her again, and I realized that what had happened that night was dangerous. I explained the situation to Captain Wu before heading back to A Yao's side for dinner. 0

Since I had left in such a hurry that morning without explaining anything to A Yao, she began asking me about what had happened earlier. 0

I thought for a moment and decided it might be best not to tell her everything. So I lied and said I was helping Captain Wu with something confidential. A Yao didn't buy it; she pouted and teased me about whether I had found a woman I liked outside. 0

I was momentarily stunned, then immediately raised my hand to assure A Yao that she was the only one I liked, and there were no other women. 0

A Yao laughed at my expression, clearly pleased. 0

After wandering around for a while, we headed back, passing by the cinema we had visited before. 0

A Yao instinctively tightened her grip on my arm, looking quite frightened, evidently still shaken by what had happened last time. 0

I held A Yao tightly in my embrace. Out of curiosity, I glanced into the cinema and was taken aback to see a mass of black mist hovering above it. To my shock, I noticed shadows appearing on the last layer of glass in the cinema. 0

My heart skipped a beat, and I quickly pulled A Yao away from there. 0

Once we returned to our place, A Yao asked if I had seen something and why those ghosts had appeared in the cinema. 0

I shook my head. Perhaps I should ask Captain Wu to investigate whether there was something hidden in the cinema. I remembered Uncle Tiger mentioning that if a place had a large number of ghosts appearing, it might indicate something was wrong there. 0

The next morning, I took A Yao back to school. We had been absent for several days, which had drawn some criticism from our counselor, who warned us that if we didn’t return to class soon, we would face consequences. 0

Reluctantly, A Yao and I went back to school. 0

While everyone was attentively listening to the professor's lecture, Captain Wu suddenly appeared in the classroom. All eyes were drawn to him; after all, he was quite good-looking. 0

Captain Wu explained the situation to the professor, indicating that there were several cases that required my assistance and requested a few days off for me. 0

The professor was naturally pleased and agreed immediately. The students present looked at me with admiration upon hearing this, which made me feel happy inside. 0

After exchanging a few words with A Yao, I followed Captain Wu out of the classroom and got into his car. 0

I asked Captain Wu if he had encountered any difficulties. He smiled and didn't return to my topic, instead mentioning how enjoyable it must have felt to be regarded as a hero by everyone. 0

I chuckled helplessly and said I would rather not feel that way; I wanted to accompany A Yao to class and share meals together, truly enjoying the happiness of being a couple. 0

Captain Wu teased me about lacking ambition, only thinking about having fun with women. 0

I shrugged, and Captain Wu fell silent again, continuing to drive. I thought he would take me back to the police station, but unexpectedly, he drove straight to the hospital. 0

Curious, I asked Captain Wu if he had discovered anything from all the footage last night. 0

He nodded and said, "Little brother, you have no idea. I stayed up all night figuring it out. The last person who came into contact with those bodies was the caretaker, Old Man Huang. Moreover, it seems that Old Man Huang stuffed something into the mouths of those corpses." 0

"Could it be those bugs?" As we spoke, we entered the director's office and asked him to summon Old Man Huang. 0

To our surprise, the director informed us that Old Man Huang had quit a few days ago. This immediately raised alarms for both Captain Wu and me, prompting us to inquire about Old Man Huang's address. 0

Soon after, Captain Wu and I arrived at Old Man Huang's residence. 0

Old Man Huang lived in a very dilapidated building situated in an open area with very few people around. It was understood that there had been some issues with this building previously, causing many residents to move away, leaving only Old Man Huang behind. 0

He lived on the second floor, so Captain Wu and I entered the building. 0

As soon as we stepped inside, Captain Wu stopped and frowned, seemingly disapproving of the place. I asked him what was wrong. 0

Captain Wu looked at me in surprise and asked if I couldn't smell something strange. 0

I shook my head and took a deep breath but still detected nothing unusual. Captain Wu sighed in frustration, inhaled deeply again, and went upstairs. When we reached the second floor, he showed no signs of stopping and continued upward. I thought he might have forgotten where Old Man Huang lived and reminded him. He nodded and acknowledged that he knew. 0

I followed Captain Wu up to the third floor, where he seemed to be sniffing around for something. 0

The third floor was peculiar; it was an open space cluttered with various items, resembling a junkyard. This was understandable, as the place had been abandoned for some time, naturally attracting some vagrants. 0

Captain Wu walked over to a corner and stopped, his gaze fixed on the wall. 0

Curious, I approached him and asked what he was looking at. It was just a plain white wall—what could possibly be interesting about it? 0

He shook his head and stood up, glancing around before saying, "Little brother, don’t you find this wall strange?" 0

I shook my head in confusion. Captain Wu continued, "Look, this wall is different from the others. It's exceptionally white and looks brand new, as if it was just painted. Not only that, but there's also a strange smell coming from it." 0

I paused for a moment and began to observe closely. He was right; the wall did seem unusual. Could there be something buried behind it? I looked at Captain Wu in surprise, and he nodded, suggesting I find something to break through the wall. 0

Together, we managed to pry open the wall, only to discover numerous corpses hidden inside. 0

My mouth dropped open in shock, and Captain Wu's expression turned particularly serious. The presence of so many bodies buried here clearly indicated a criminal case. 0

Without hesitation, Captain Wu reported to the precinct. Soon enough, they dispatched personnel, including forensic experts. 0

While we guarded the scene, the arriving officers began to extract the bodies. Captain Wu and I carefully examined them; these corpses resembled those found in hospitals but had swollen bellies and stiffened bodies. 0
