After finishing my wash-up, I arrived downstairs at the Girls' Dormitory and called Feng Jie. Before long, she appeared before me.
To be honest, this version of Feng Jie looked much better. Although she was beautiful last night, there was something unique that was missing.
Noticing that I was staring at her, Feng Jie felt a bit shy and asked why I kept looking at her.
I awkwardly cleared my throat, realizing I had lost my composure, and changed the subject by asking, "Did you bring the pouch?"
Feng Jie nodded and took the pouch out of her pocket. I glanced at it, nodded in approval, and followed her to the hospital.
As we entered the ward, Uncle Tiger was resting on the sofa. Feng Jie and I didn’t dare disturb him and quietly walked over to the sofa across from him. I let Feng Jie sit first while I approached A Yao's bed.
Under Uncle Tiger's care, A Yao's complexion had returned to normal; she just needed to wake up now.
I sat down, overwhelmed with longing for A Yao these past few days. I really wanted to kiss her and hold her. If it weren't for our enemies, A Yao wouldn't be in this situation.
But then I recalled that since Uncle Tiger had fought against that mysterious person at home, they seemed to have disappeared. However, would everything truly be safe from here on?
Perhaps both Uncle Tiger and I were overestimating our safety and were preoccupied with these sudden events. What we didn't know was that the mysterious person hadn’t given up their hatred for my family after Grandpa's death. Instead, they quietly set a trap for both me and Uncle Tiger that would lead to dire consequences later on, costing Uncle Tiger his life.
Before long, Uncle Tiger woke up and called us over when he saw Feng Jie and me.
Feng Jie handed the pouch to Uncle Tiger.
He squeezed it a bit before opening it to take a look inside. After a moment, he put the pouch away again and handed it back to Feng Jie, telling her to keep it with her tonight.
I asked Uncle Tiger if he could confirm that the man from last night was indeed the Mountain Demon. He nodded affirmatively.
I frowned and voiced my confusion, asking why the Mountain Demon looked different from what we had seen before. Uncle Tiger explained that the Mountain Demon could change its appearance because it could create an alternate form for itself.
Feng Jie and I were surprised to hear this; we hadn’t expected these creatures to possess such abilities.
Uncle Tiger added that there were still many things we didn’t know.
In the following nights, Feng Jie and I returned to the entertainment venue we had visited before, continuing to lure the Mountain Demon. Everything was progressing smoothly; Feng Jie had successfully gotten closer to the Mountain Demon and their relationship had become much more intimate. Feng Jie mentioned that the Mountain Demon had already started inviting her over to his house, and she asked me what she should do.
This was unexpected, so I quickly informed Uncle Tiger and Captain Wu about it.
Captain Wu immediately had someone investigate the location Feng Jie mentioned, discovering that it was a Cursed Graveyard. Upon learning this, Feng Jie was startled and exclaimed how could the Mountain Demon be associated with such a place.
Uncle Tiger explained that the area was heavy with Yin Qi, making it a suitable place for the Mountain Demon. Moreover, the Mountain Demon could use illusions to prevent Feng Jie from realizing it was a Cursed Graveyard.
With Uncle Tiger's explanation, everyone understood that the Mountain Demon intended to deal with Feng Jie in the Cursed Graveyard, making tonight's meeting crucial.
To prevent any mishaps during tonight's rendezvous, Uncle Tiger instructed Captain Wu and me to accompany him to the Cursed Graveyard while Feng Jie stayed behind to help look after A Yao.
After discussing this, we all set off, with Captain Wu leading us to the Cursed Graveyard.
Even though it was broad daylight, we still felt an eerie chill in the air. I swallowed hard and stayed close behind Uncle Tiger.
Uncle Tiger glanced around as if contemplating something. Captain Wu nudged me and quietly asked, "Little brother, do you often come to places like this with Uncle Tiger?"
I shot Captain Wu a look, wondering who would frequently visit such places for no reason. Captain Wu chuckled at my response. Just then, Uncle Tiger called me over. I hurriedly walked up to him as he pointed to a spot on the ground, instructing me to stand there. I nodded and took my position where he indicated. Afterward, Uncle Tiger moved to another spot. I looked over and saw him seemingly marking a point. Once he finished, he called Captain Wu over as well.
As Captain Wu stood in position, I noticed that it seemed like we were facing each other but also not quite aligned. At that moment, the sun blazed down intensely; before long, my forehead was covered in beads of sweat from the heat.
Captain Wu wasn't faring much better; his lips were parched. I couldn't help but feel a bit bitter about our situation—while we were suffering under the scorching sun, Uncle Tiger had found shade under a nearby tree.
Just when Captain Wu and I were about to reach our limit, Uncle Tiger approached us and announced that we were ready.
Suddenly, I felt dizzy in my head and nearly stumbled to the ground. After regaining my composure, I asked Uncle Tiger what we had just done.
Uncle Tiger explained that we were burying righteous energy.
Captain Wu and I exchanged glances and shook our heads in confusion; we didn't understand what Uncle Tiger meant. He elaborated, "This righteous energy is essentially a man's Yang Qi combined with the natural energy of heaven and earth. When Yang Qi merges with this energy, it becomes the most potent righteous energy in existence. This energy can counter various malevolent entities, including the Mountain Demon. Since Yin Qi is particularly strong here at night, we need pure Yang energy to suppress it; otherwise, dealing with the Mountain Demon will be quite challenging, and Feng Jie's safety cannot be guaranteed."
Finally understanding his explanation, we eagerly asked Uncle Tiger what else needed to be done. He replied, "We still need some items for a ritual for the dead; after all, this is a Cursed Graveyard filled with wandering souls and spirits. Naturally, we must pay our respects on someone else's territory."
Captain Wu reacted quickly, saying he would go buy it right away, and then left.
Uncle Tiger glanced at Captain Wu before turning his gaze to me. "Wang Niu," he said, "you have something important to do, so listen carefully."
I straightened up, fully alert. Uncle Tiger continued, "Tonight, you must bring Feng Jie here. If possible, let Mountain Demon ride in your car. I will place some items in the vehicle that can weaken Mountain Demon's power."
I nodded, thinking what Uncle Tiger said was a simple task and that there was no need to worry about any mistakes.
However, I never expected that my overconfidence would lead to trouble.
That evening, I drove Feng Jie to the agreed-upon location with Mountain Demon, which was a familiar entertainment venue. As soon as we parked, Mountain Demon appeared in a car. To be honest, the human disguise Mountain Demon wore was quite attractive; if I didn't know its true identity, I would have thought it was just a handsome man.
I subtly signaled to Feng Jie not to worry and that I would stay close to her. She nodded in response.
At that moment, Mountain Demon recognized our vehicle and walked over. I immediately got out of the car to open the door for Feng Jie and helped her out.
Upon seeing Feng Jie, Mountain Demon flashed a charming smile. For a moment, Feng Jie seemed entranced, her expression dreamy. My heart sank; I hoped Feng Jie wouldn't be bewitched by Mountain Demon.
I quickly gave Feng Jie’s arm a gentle squeeze, and she snapped back to reality, offering me an awkward smile.
Suddenly, Mountain Demon reached out as if to take Feng Jie’s hand and lead her to the car. In a panic, I swatted away Mountain Demon’s hand. Uncle Tiger had instructed us to let Mountain Demon ride in our car, and before we set off, he had placed an unknown package under the seat. I certainly wouldn’t let Uncle Tiger's efforts go to waste.
