I returned to the hospital, and at that moment, A Yao's condition had improved somewhat; her complexion was beginning to look a little better. I told Chen Ming to go back to the dormitory and rest well, assuring him that I would stay here. Chen Ming nodded and left. 0

For some reason, my heart felt increasingly bitter. I sat down by A Yao's bed, thinking that if none of this had happened, I would be happily strolling with A Yao along the paths of the campus right now. 0

A Yao was the first girl who treated me well after entering university, not minding my family background. To have someone like A Yao as a friend felt like a blessing I had earned over several lifetimes. 0

Yet, because of me, A Yao had suffered twice. My heart ached as I tightly held her hand in mine. 0

Perhaps I was too exhausted from the past few days; before long, I fell asleep leaning against A Yao's hand. 0

I don’t know how long it had been when I suddenly felt someone touching me. Startled, I opened my eyes and saw A Yao's hand moving, but she hadn’t woken up. Excitedly, I called for the doctor. 0

After examining her, the doctor said that A Yao would wake up in a few days. This news filled me with even more excitement. After thanking the doctor, I decided to wipe A Yao's face so that she would feel more comfortable when she woke up. 0

I placed the water I had prepared aside, soaked a towel, gently wrung it out, and lightly wiped A Yao's face. Just then, footsteps sounded from outside the door. Instinctively, I looked over and was surprised to see Captain Wu. 0

I was taken aback by Captain Wu's sudden appearance. Before I could speak, he said to me, "Little brother, I found out why those victims were targeted by the Mountain Demon." 0

I quickly asked Captain Wu for the reason, but then noticed that Uncle Tiger hadn’t shown up. It struck me as odd—had Uncle Tiger not returned? 0

Seeing my gaze fixed behind him, Captain Wu seemed to understand something and explained, "Uncle Tiger told me you were here. He said that the matter with the Mountain Demon should be handled by you and me together. Uncle Tiger seems to have gone off to take care of something." 0

I paused for a moment but didn’t ask further; I'd find out what Uncle Tiger was up to when he returned. Instead, I asked Captain Wu what he had discovered. 0

Captain Wu replied, "All those victims share a common trait: they were born in July and are also untouched girls." 0

"July," I instinctively repeated. 0

Captain Wu nodded. Suddenly, it hit me—A Yao was also born in July and fit that description. 0

Noticing my change in expression, Captain Wu asked what was wrong. I glanced at A Yao, and only then did Captain Wu notice her presence and inquire about who she was. 0

I mentioned my girlfriend, who had also been harmed by the Mountain Demon. 0

Captain Wu looked at me with wide eyes, seemingly surprised. After all, in Captain Wu's eyes, I was protected by Uncle Tiger, so naturally, the people around me were safe as well. 0

I shook my head with a bitter smile, saying that all of this stemmed from me. 0

Captain Wu wasn't the type to pry too deeply. After hearing my words, he asked, "Have you and Uncle Tiger thought of any solutions?" 0

I shook my head, but just then, an idea flashed through my mind, recalling what Captain Wu had just said. 0

I immediately asked Captain Wu, "Can you look for police officers born in July among your team?" 0

Captain Wu was a smart person. As soon as he heard my words, he understood my meaning. After thinking for a moment, he excitedly said, "I'll check when I get back." 0

I responded with a sound of agreement as Captain Wu left the hospital room. 0

By noon, Feng Jie and Chen Ming appeared in the room together, each carrying food. They had been taking care of A Yao these past few days and had helped me a lot. This warmed my heart, and I expressed my gratitude to them. 0

Feng Jie and Chen Ming told me I was being too polite; we were all classmates. They urged me to eat something quickly; otherwise, if I fell ill, it wouldn't do—A Yao was still waiting for me to take care of him. 0

I nodded and didn’t hesitate any longer. I picked up the food and started eating. When I had eaten most of it, Chen Ming finally asked me, "What about the Victim's situation?" 0

I hesitated for a moment as bitterness welled up inside me. I shook my head and said, "The Victim is dead." 0

Chen Ming was shocked and exclaimed, "How is that possible? Weren't you and Uncle Tiger present?" 0

I sighed and didn’t continue. I didn’t know when Uncle Tiger would return. Seeing my gloomy expression, Chen Ming decided not to press further. 0

Just then, my phone rang. When I looked at it, I saw it was a call from Uncle Tiger. I quickly answered it. On the other end of the line, Uncle Tiger sounded anxious and instructed me to bring the money given by the Victim without missing a single cent to the mountain; he would be waiting for me there. 0

After he finished speaking, Uncle Tiger hung up. I was momentarily stunned as I realized this might be related to the Victim's situation. We hadn’t resolved this matter yet; how could we take the two hundred thousand without feeling guilty? 0

I pulled Chen Ming aside and explained the situation to him. At first, Chen Ming was reluctant to part with the one hundred thousand he had received; after all, it was a significant amount of money. 0

I had no choice but to tell Chen Ming that the reason the victim had died was that they had crossed paths with something from the Underworld. If we took the money given by the victim, we could expect the same fate. 0

Chen Ming looked at me with skepticism, which irritated me. After a tense standoff, he finally relented and withdrew the one hundred thousand. I also took out the money I had in my bank account, combining it with his, and we headed to the place Uncle Tiger had mentioned. 0

Upon arrival, I saw Uncle Tiger waiting for me at the entrance of the mountain. 0

For some reason, I felt a pang of guilt in my heart as I handed the money to Uncle Tiger. He acknowledged my gesture but did not take the money, instead instructing me to follow him while holding it. 0

Once we entered the mountain, I noticed three Paper Men placed at the site of the Ancestor of the Victim. These Paper Men were "sitting" on "chairs." 0

In front of these "chairs," there were also three "tables," each adorned with various offerings. 0

Of course, everything was made of paper. 0

Uncle Tiger instructed me to place the money in front of the three Paper Men in the center and then bow three times before them. 0

Although I was puzzled, I refrained from questioning anything in such an eerie setting and complied. After bowing, Uncle Tiger told me to burn the money—none of it could be left behind. 0

I looked at Uncle Tiger in surprise; his expression was serious, showing no signs of joking. Reluctantly, I followed his instructions. 0

At the moment the money was burned, an unexpected blaze erupted around the three Paper Men. Strangely enough, there seemed to be wisps of black mist mixed in with the flames. 0

This process lasted only a few seconds before quickly turning to ash. 0

Uncle Tiger sighed in relief, his stern demeanor softening into a gentler expression. I stood up and asked him what just happened. 0

Uncle Tiger glared at me but showed no intent to scold. He said, "This is all your doing. Do you know what those three Paper Men are?" 0

I shook my head. Uncle Tiger replied curtly, "Those are beings from the Underworld. Their souls inhabit these Paper Men. Bowing before them is a way for you to seek their forgiveness since you got involved in this mess. Burning that two hundred thousand is just as important—it's not yours, so don't take it." 0

I let out a reluctant sigh and promised Uncle Tiger that I would no longer involve myself in Underworld matters. 0

Uncle Tiger said, "Wang Niu, since you have entered the shadow circle, there are some rules I need to tell you, so you won't find yourself in a situation like today, where even the Great Immortal can't save you." 0

I nodded, and Uncle Tiger continued, "There are two types of people we do not save in the shadow circle: first, those who are about to die; second, those who are victims of karmic retribution. Do you understand?" 0

I responded with a simple "Okay," and Uncle Tiger didn't say anything more. He then asked me how A Yao was doing and whether Captain Wu had spoken to me about the Mountain Demon. 0

I informed Uncle Tiger that A Yao's condition was improving and that we had gathered some information regarding the Mountain Demon. 0

Upon returning to the hospital, A Yao's room was crowded with people. Everyone was present, and in addition, there was a female police officer. 0

I shared our plan with Uncle Tiger, who glanced at the female officer and then shook his head, saying it wasn't appropriate. 0

Captain Wu and I exchanged puzzled looks, thinking something must have gone wrong. Just as we were about to speak up, Uncle Tiger suddenly approached Feng Jie and gently asked, "Miss, when is your birthday?" 0

Feng Jie looked momentarily taken aback before replying, "At the end of July." 0

Uncle Tiger's eyes brightened, and his expression turned joyful as he said to us, "She is just right." 0

This left Chen Ming and me in a difficult position. How were we supposed to explain this to Feng Jie? After all, she had already helped me a lot; it wouldn't be right to put her in danger again. That simply didn't make sense. 0
