After Uncle Tiger had unfastened the woman's clothing, her abdomen was fully exposed before my eyes. To my shock, there was no stomach; it was hollow inside, and nestled within was a dead infant bound with iron wire.
Uncle Tiger stood up and said, "This is the second magnetic field. If I’m not mistaken, those black flags are hiding dead infants behind them."
I was still processing what I had just seen when Uncle Tiger took action, pulling down all the black flags around us. Just as he had said, dead infants stood behind each of the flags.
I swallowed hard, a chilling sensation creeping over me. What on earth did the person behind this want?
"Uncle, this must be some kind of ritual," I ventured to say based on my own judgment.
Uncle Tiger agreed with me. "This is a continuation of Yinming, using the lives of the dead to connect with the living. Wang Niu, you need to go up immediately and have Captain Wu bring down some gasoline to burn this place."
I nodded and ran upstairs. When Captain Wu saw me coming up, he hurriedly asked about the situation below and whether it was dangerous.
I didn’t have time to explain everything to Captain Wu; I just urged him to get gasoline first and promised to tell him everything in detail once we resolved the matter.
Captain Wu nodded and quickly sent someone for gasoline. Seeing that there was no immediate danger, I invited Captain Wu to join me in the basement.
"This... there’s such a huge secret hidden here," Captain Wu stood frozen in place, looking somewhat bewildered.
Even someone who had experienced many things would be startled by such an unbelievable scene; I completely understood Captain Wu's reaction as I took the gasoline from his hands.
Following Uncle Tiger's instructions, I gathered the dead infants, the female corpse, and the woman together without hesitation and poured gasoline over them.
As I turned to ask Captain Wu for a lighter to ignite it, Uncle Tiger stopped me and said, "Let me do it."
I handed the lighter to Uncle Tiger, who did not ignite it immediately. Instead, he rubbed a talisman on the lighter before setting fire to the corpse.
Captain Wu stirred the flames and curiously asked, "Hmm, could it be that these corpses are different?"
I nodded, my gaze still fixed on the body. The corpse in front of us was certainly different; otherwise, Uncle Tiger wouldn't have acted this way. Seeing my indifferent response, Captain Wu didn't press further and continued to watch.
Once Uncle Tiger ignited the corpse, a large fire erupted, engulfing numerous bodies. During the burning process, a sizzling sound echoed around us.
Everything was proceeding smoothly until an unexpected incident occurred at the end. Just as the flames were about to die down, a man's wailing suddenly emerged from within the fire.
We exchanged glances, and the atmosphere turned eerie. Captain Wu instinctively moved closer to me and whispered, "Little brother, what's going on?"
I shook my head, admitting I didn't know. Inside, I was already panicking and quietly edged closer to Uncle Tiger.
Uncle Tiger seemed unfazed by the male voice coming from the flames; it was as if he had anticipated it. The man's cries accompanied the fire until it gradually diminished, after which his voice ceased.
Captain Wu and I let out a sigh of relief; finally, it seemed we wouldn't encounter any more surprises. Just as we thought we could leave, Uncle Tiger instructed us to go ahead while he stayed in the basement for a while longer.
Reluctantly, Captain Wu and I left first. After exiting the villa, I asked Captain Wu to take me to A Yao's house. I had been busy with Captain Wu's assignments alongside Uncle Tiger these past few days and had neglected A Yao, which made me feel guilty.
Upon arriving at A Yao's house, I called her but received no answer. My heart sank with worry, prompting me to enter A Yao's home uninvited.
Logically speaking, there should have been someone at A Yao's house; however, the front door was wide open, and there wasn't a soul inside.
This unsettling feeling washed over me. I quickly hailed a cab back to school and sought out A Yao's tutor. However, what her tutor said filled me with dread.
A Yao had not been to school for many days, which made me think of the man with the lotus pattern in the surveillance footage. I couldn't dwell on it any longer; the only solution was to have Captain Wu dispatched immediately to find A Yao.
I quickly contacted Captain Wu, who happened to be nearby on official business and rushed over right away.
I explained the situation to Captain Wu, and soon he arranged for two teams to search around the school and A Yao's home.
After a whole day of searching, there was still no news. It was as if A Yao had vanished completely; we couldn't find any trace of him, and the nearby surveillance cameras had not captured his image.
I felt anxious, and Uncle Tiger had not returned either.
Captain Wu reassured me that everything would be fine, but every time I thought about how A Yao's aunt had been brutally murdered by that man, I couldn't help but worry about A Yao's safety.
As dusk approached, Uncle Tiger suddenly came back, looking exhausted. I opened my mouth to speak but then held back.
In the following days, Uncle Tiger seemed perpetually drained for reasons unknown, which worried me greatly. I called a doctor, but he couldn't find anything wrong and advised Uncle Tiger to rest well.
I could only take care of Uncle Tiger while asking Captain Wu to keep an eye on A Yao's situation.
These days were torturous until one day when Captain Wu appeared before me with a joyful expression. I thought it meant there was good news about A Yao, and I felt a surge of hope.
However, Captain Wu then asked me to help him with something. Naturally, I refused; Uncle Tiger's condition hadn't improved, and there was still no lead on A Yao. I simply didn't have the energy to spare.
But Captain Wu dismissed my concerns, saying, "Little brother, what I'm asking you to help with is related to your girlfriend."
Upon hearing this, I perked up immediately and asked Captain Wu what it was about.
"Captain Wu said, 'A few days ago, I was investigating your girlfriend's situation and accidentally learned that a leader above us fell seriously ill. I've heard that this illness is rather strange; when it strikes, that leader becomes like a different person, as if he's not himself. Moreover, a lotus pattern appeared on his face, exactly like the man in the surveillance footage. What do you think? Is this a hint of something?'
I pondered for a moment and replied, 'Could that leader be the one who killed Aunt A-Yao?'
Captain Wu fell silent for a moment before saying, 'Let's not jump to conclusions. Let's go see him; we might discover something.'
I nodded, realizing this was our only option. Before we went, I discussed detailed strategies with Captain Wu.
I would pose as a doctor, while Captain Wu would introduce me to the leader's family.
After some thorough checks, we finally entered the house. However, just a few steps in, I noticed something unusual. Captain Wu looked at me with concern and quietly asked if there was a problem.
Although I hadn't learned any skills from Uncle Tiger, I could see the dark energy floating in the air.
I whispered to Captain Wu about the anomaly I sensed. He appeared calm, probably believing I could handle the situation, so he didn't seem worried.
In reality, I was quite nervous as we followed our guide to the leader's bedroom.
As soon as we stepped inside, a foul odor hit us, nearly making both Captain Wu and me vomit. After a moment of recovery, we felt better.
However, the leader's family was not pleased at all; they pointed fingers at us. Since we were in the wrong position, Captain Wu and I could only endure in silence.
Just as the family was about to kick us out, the person lying in bed suddenly had an episode. He shot up from the bed and lunged at his family with a fierce expression, causing chaos in the room.
'Little brother, look! The lotus pattern on that leader's face has appeared!' Captain Wu exclaimed excitedly."
I looked back, and on the face of that leader, in the same spot, a lotus pattern appeared. My heart began to surge with waves of shock. Could it really be this leader?
Moments later, Captain Wu suddenly shook my hand in panic, pointing at the leader who was fiercely biting at his family members. "Little brother, look quickly! How can there be a shadow on the leader?"
At that moment, the shadow manifested on the leader's body, as if two people were overlapping.
I took a deep breath; my mind went blank. I had never seen anything like this before.
It left me feeling helpless. Just then, my phone in my pocket rang. Instinctively, I picked it up; it was an unfamiliar number.
For some reason, I answered it without thinking.
It was Uncle Tiger.
Uncle Tiger seemed to be in better spirits; his voice was full of energy. On the phone, he asked where I was. I briefly explained what had happened here and gave him the address.
After hanging up, I instructed Captain Wu to go outside and wait for Uncle Tiger. After all, this was the leader's home, and Uncle Tiger couldn't just enter freely.
Once Captain Wu left, I cautiously observed the shadow that had possessed the leader.
The family members seemed terrified by the leader and had all fled. At that moment, I was left alone in the room.
I suddenly felt tense and quietly grabbed a blanket from the table for protection. This was no ordinary fight; it was clearly a ghostly presence.
Just then, the leader who had been hunched over suddenly collapsed to the ground, motionless, and even the shadow on him vanished.
I was momentarily stunned, gathering my courage to reach out and move the leader lying on the ground, but there was no response. Could he be dead?
The thought sent a chill down my spine. If he was dead, I would be in trouble too. Reluctantly, I extended my hand and placed it on his nose to check for breath.
But in the next second, a dark shadow suddenly appeared above me.
I looked up and was startled to see that the vanished figure had reappeared right over my head, staring at me in a strange manner.
Instantly, my scalp tingled with fear, and I reacted quickly, dodging to the side. However, escaping this shadow was not so easy.
Before I could catch my breath, the shadow grew larger and larger, like a massive net descending upon me with great force, swallowing me whole.
Immediately, I felt a sense of helplessness wash over me; even my consciousness began to fade, as if the strength within me was slowly leaking away.
If this continued, I would surely die.
“Wang Niu!” Suddenly, Uncle Tiger's voice reached my ears. In an instant, the shadow enveloping me seemed to dodge away and emitted a terrible animalistic scream.
Uncle Tiger supported me without hesitation and shoved something into my mouth, urging me to swallow it.
