The husband, unable to bear the thought of his wife continuing to live a life of hardship with him, cruelly murdered her and successfully evaded the police's initial investigation through deception.
However, had he not been in such a hurry to cash out and flee, the police might never have suspected that the Suspect was right beside them.
Date: August 27, 2008.
Location: Heilongjiang Province Harbin City Acheng District.
On Victory Day, at 5 AM, Uncle Zhang woke up early as usual to go to the morning market for business.
As he pushed his cart out the door, he suddenly noticed someone lying in the corner of a nearby wall.
Who would be lying on the street so early in the morning? Uncle Zhang initially thought it might be a drunkard or a homeless person, but considering his own safety, he decided to call the police to handle the situation.
The Acheng police quickly arrived at the scene after receiving the Report. However, upon arrival, they discovered that the person Uncle Zhang had mentioned was already dead.
Subsequently, forensic technicians found that the deceased was a woman, approximately 35 years old. Her head had suffered multiple blunt force blows, and there were three stab wounds on her chest—these wounds inflicted after her death.
In addition, technicians found clear tire tracks, two sets of footprints, and evident drag marks at the scene. Based on this evidence, the police determined that this was not the actual Crime Scene, but rather that the victim had been murdered elsewhere and dumped here.
At the scene, technicians did not find any items or identification that could prove the victim's identity. The police then began interviewing people in the vicinity. Four hours after the incident, they identified the deceased.
The victim was named Zhang Jinrong, born in 1972, from Yanshou County in Heilongjiang Province. She had moved to Acheng with her husband Wang Changjun in 1991.
Afterward, Zhang Jinrong worked at her brother-in-law's cake shop. Upon investigation, the police found that Zhang Jinrong had a very introverted personality, a simple social life, and no known enemies. This left the police puzzled as to who would want to harm Zhang Jinrong.
Soon, the police ruled out motives of passion or revenge and turned their attention to family conflicts.
However, Zhang Jinrong's husband, Wang Changjun, claimed that he had been driving a taxi all night. When he returned home in the morning and found his wife missing, he assumed she had gone to the morning market. There were witnesses who confirmed his statement.
Wang Changjun was a local taxi driver and had been married to Zhang Jinrong for 18 years. The sudden blow left him heartbroken.
In order to find his wife's killer as quickly as possible, Wang Changjun actively cooperated with the police investigation and provided some valuable leads.
Wang Changjun stated that Zhang Jinrong likely left for the morning market around four or five o'clock, taking with her a mobile phone, 200 yuan in cash, and a gold and silver bracelet. However, these items were not found at the crime scene.
Based on this information, the police speculated that Zhang Jinrong might have been robbed on her way to the market and subsequently killed. However, the suspect's actions of disposing of the body made the police hesitant to fully trust this theory.
The residential area where the body was discovered was only a five-minute drive outside the city. If the suspect truly intended to dispose of the body, why not throw it further out of town?
With many questions lingering, the police continued their investigation. It wasn't until September 30, 2008, when an insurance company called the police that there was a breakthrough in the case.
The insurance company informed the police that Zhang Jinrong had taken out a substantial insurance policy before her death. Why would she buy such a large policy for herself?
Could it be that she had foreseen an accident? The police immediately began investigating this phenomenon.
During their inquiry, they discovered that Zhang Jinrong had multiple insurance policies from different companies, with total coverage amounting to 600,000 yuan. Alarmingly, all of these policies listed Wang Changjun as the beneficiary.
When the police confirmed the matter with Wang Changjun, he claimed that he was unaware of the insurance his wife had purchased. To uncover the truth, the police visited all insurance companies in the area. During their investigation, they discovered that Wang Changjun was lying.
The police analyzed the situation and concluded that if Wang Changjun was indeed the murderer of Zhang Jinrong, there would surely be some traces left behind at his home.
Consequently, the police conducted a search of Wang Changjun's residence. Soon, they found bloodstains on a motorcycle in his garage and numerous signs of wiping and chopping on the walls.
After forensic analysis, the police confirmed that the blood found in Wang Changjun's home belonged to the victim, Zhang Jinrong.
At this point, the police identified Wang Changjun as the suspect responsible for killing Zhang Jinrong.
During interrogation, Wang Changjun confessed to murdering his wife for insurance money. Subsequently, the police took him to a cornfield where they found the clothes he wore during the crime and the weapon he used.
All of this was orchestrated solely by Wang Changjun, who staged a robbery-murder scene and actively provided clues to mislead the police investigation.
While identifying the murder scene, Wang Changjun told the police that his relationship with his wife, Zhang Jinrong, had been tense for many years.
Long before, he had contemplated killing her for insurance money.
Starting from June 2008, Wang Changjun began plotting until the incident occurred.
Thus, this Wife Murder Insurance Fraud Case was successfully solved by the police.
