He Shuning lay on the bed, tossing and turning. The rich aroma of red wine always captivated her, and she felt a bit tipsy at the moment. As she glanced up at the ceiling, the lights seemed to blur together. Shaking her foggy head, she closed her eyes and remained silent for a moment. Yet, despite her efforts to calm herself, an increasing restlessness brewed within her. She ran her fingers through her hair and finally sighed in resignation. Accepting her fate, she reached for her phone on the side table. Staring at the various apps on the screen, she hesitated for a moment before tapping on the music app at the bottom. The playback bar prominently displayed the name "Wilderness." She pressed play, and instantly, the essence of rock music burst from the speakers, painting vivid images of golden, boundless freedom in her mind.
In that moment, she believed that music could heal the soul.
Suddenly curious about their appearance, she clicked on their profile picture, which turned out to be a dazzling landscape photo. Their homepage contained only brief introductions about them but lacked any actual photos.
Their songs had become familiar companions to her, yet the people behind them felt so foreign.
Ultimately, she managed to suppress her urge to search for them online. Closing her eyes again, she couldn’t help but chuckle at herself.
She recalled how his voice that day resembled that of the lead singer, even though he spoke in a calm tone and didn’t say much.
"Ah, finally arrived! Money really does wear one out."
"How dramatic," Xu Yan said with annoyance as he pushed two suitcases while watching Lum Ming dramatically clutch his forehead nearby.
"And whose suitcase is this? If it's taken by mistake, I'm leaving it here," Xu Yan said as he glanced around without looking directly at Lum Ming. He nodded and continued, "Looks like it really was taken by mistake. Forget it; I'll just leave it here." He flicked his wrist dismissively. "I thought it was ours; it's so big that my hand feels like it's going to break from pushing it. Turns out it's not."
"Hey, hey, hey! Brother, that's mine! Hehe, thanks for your hard work! I was wondering why my journey felt so easy; turns out you were silently contributing!" Lum Ming grinned widely, sticking close to Xu Yan like a sycophant.
"Oh, it's yours? I was wondering why this suitcase has been following us all along without its owner in sight—turns out you were just slacking off," Xu Yan said irritably as he swatted away Lum Ming's hand that clung to his arm.
"Seriously, Lum Ming, what did you pack in there? It's such a huge suitcase; did you pack an entire room?" Lu Yuen looked at his own suitcase and then at the massive one in disbelief, shaking his head.
"You don't understand, I just brought a few extra outfits. When you're out and about, you need to pay attention to your image. Can you not be so rough? At least respect our profession."
"I really can't believe Brother Lum Ming here has more gear than a female celebrity. Just look at Brother Lo Ye—he has a guitar and a handbag. Did that affect his handsomeness?" Tongtong glanced at Lum Ming, then at Lo Ye, who was walking towards them with water.
Her gaze shifted dramatically as she clasped her hands together. "He looks even more handsome now."
Fuming, Lum Ming pretended to strike her, while those nearby burst into laughter.
"Brother needs to save his image. I declare that tonight, I'm treating everyone. Let's welcome our guests properly."
Lu Yuen quickly chimed in, "Brother Lum Ming, your image is looking quite impressive again."
Tongtong dashed a couple of steps to stand in front of Lo Ye. He handed her a bottle of water as she exclaimed, "Brother Lo Ye, Brother Lo Ye! Brother Lum Ming said he's treating us tonight. Let's make sure we enjoy it and put him in his place for being so full of himself."
Lo Ye passed the water he was holding to Da Zuo to distribute among everyone, twisting open the cap and teasing Lum Ming lazily. "I heard our General Manager Lu is treating us today. I happen to know where the luxurious restaurant in Lin City is."
Then they saw Lum Ming's face contorted in despair as he pleaded for mercy.
