In the Wa Country, the fierce competition for the spirit stone known as the Spirit Heart in Huaxia, or Yata no Kagami as referred to by Wa, traces back to an ancient ruin discovered simultaneously by extraordinary individuals from various Eastern nations many years ago.
The preservation of this ruin was astonishing, with an intense concentration of Qi that left all extraordinary individuals in awe. Consequently, a fierce battle erupted at the entrance of the ruins. Aside from Xiao Yefeng, who was indifferent to these rumors, nearly everyone in the Metaphysics Society was aware of this event.
That battle was chaotic and dark; to claim ownership, Huaxia sacrificed the lives of four True Spirit Dark Force individuals. Other nations faced similar losses, and ultimately, a collective decision was made to cease hostilities. Upon inspecting the ruins, it became clear that eight Spirit Hearts, each surpassing the strength of ordinary spirit stones, were required to unlock the entrance. However, in this era, spirit stones were mined in abundance.
Modern humans had poor preservation abilities for Qi, leading to rapid evaporation of spirit stones. Even with the best preservation methods, Qi could not be contained indefinitely. Moreover, treasures like the Spirit Heart were virtually nonexistent among the nations.
Since eight Spirit Hearts were necessary to access the ruins, it was believed that the Ming Ruins contained the most concentrated Qi. The Metaphysics Society speculated that a perfect Second-Generation Celestial Abode might be preserved within.
A consensus was reached: nations would gather eight Spirit Hearts by a set deadline. Each Spirit Heart would allow three individuals entry into the ruins. Thus, having more Spirit Hearts increased one's chances of access. Currently, seven out of eight Spirit Hearts had been secured: Huaxia held three, Wa Country two, and Vietnam and Thailand each possessed one. With three Spirit Hearts, Huaxia could send nine people inside while Wa Country could only send six. The last Spirit Heart represented their final opportunity, which Wa Country could not afford to lose.
At that moment, Sakai suddenly halted his advance and turned to look back. The aura of the Spirit Heart—Yata no Kagami—had vanished ahead; clearly, Oshima had succeeded in catching up with Zhao Gang and had dispelled the false lead. The only truth now lay with Miyuki on the other side.
Sakai glanced at Liu Entai, who was under Gu Huo Niao's control. Liu Entai appeared normal but his eyes betrayed him as they flickered toward Miyuki. Seeing this, Sakai burst into laughter, his feminine features illuminated with a sinister glee.
"Ha ha ha! The last Yata no Kagami is within our grasp! With this final Yata no Kagami, Your Excellency and Abe-sama will be able to summon ancient Shikigami! At that point, you Huaxia people will be doomed!" With that proclamation, Sakai stepped forward, leaving Gu Huo Niao to guard Liu Entai—now stripped of his powers—at the ruins.
Sakai was intoxicated by victory and fully convinced of his judgment. Meanwhile, what was happening on the other side of Taiyu Island where Zhao Gang was? Had Oshima truly stolen the False Spirit Heart protected by Zhao Gang? Was Zhao Gang really dead?
In a corner of Taiyu Island, Zhao Gang gasped for breath as he surveyed the shattered Yellow Talismans around him—proof that Oshima had indeed discovered the false spirit stone. Yet Zhao Gang was still alive; what about Oshima and the injured Jonin?
The Jonin who had just been struck by Liu Entai's copper coin dart lay slumped beneath a large tree, a katana belonging to him piercing through his chest and abdomen. This Jonin at the Inner Force level had met his end just like that. As for Oshima? There was no evidence left of anyone else’s presence near Zhao Gang.
At that moment, Zhao Gang gritted his teeth and stood up with a large knife in hand. After recovering some of his inner energy by absorbing the nearby spirit stones, he decided not to continue fleeing but instead headed in the direction of Miyuki. The reason was simple: reinforcements had arrived, albeit in small numbers.
However, recalling the terrifying strike from earlier and the seamless coordination between the two attackers, Zhao Gang felt a chill run down his spine. Although these two had ambushed him, they had swiftly taken down one of the Jonin in an instant, demonstrating that their teamwork could eliminate any Inner Force level warrior at any time.
At this moment, those two were already pursuing the injured ninja who had fled. As an Inner Force level Ancient Warrior, Zhao Gang felt he had lost all face to escape. One of the young men seized the knife while the other used a Ling Kong-etched talisman as cover. Taking advantage of the distraction caused by their Jonin, the first young man struck back with a single blow that ended the Jonin's life. It seemed as if a shadow flickered and vanished, as if it had absorbed something from the slain Jonin's body.
Zhao Gang was truly shocked. What astonished him even more was that after killing the Jonin, the young man wielding the Black Sword instantly sliced open Oshima's abdomen with fluid movements, as if he had calculated everything perfectly beforehand, giving the impression that Oshima had collided into him.
Indeed, it was Xiao Yefeng and Mo Fei who had just arrived on the island to save Zhao Gang from Oshima and another Jonin. With this tactic alone, Mo Fei seized the knife while Xiao Yefeng used a binding talisman to immobilize the injured ninja for just an instant. Mo Fei then delivered a fatal blow to kill the Jonin. Anticipating that his companion would retreat after witnessing their comrade's death, Xiao Yefeng swung his Soul-Severing Black Sword horizontally in a shadowy area where it blended into darkness and sliced open Oshima's abdomen.
However, Oshima was no pushover; his title as Jonin was well-earned. Sensing the blade entering his body, he quickly drew a short dagger from his waist to block it, narrowly avoiding a fatal wound. Despite being injured, Oshima was no match for the two and could only flee while wounded. After all, his mission was already accomplished; he had proven that there was no Yata no Kagami in this direction.
Meanwhile, on another front, Liu Entai sensed that Sakai had moved far away. Suddenly pulling out his last Spirit Talisman from his pocket, he did not stick it on Shikigami but instead placed it on himself. In an instant, Gu Huo Niao let out a shriek as half of its body’s phosphorescence was extinguished by Liu Entai's palm. In the sunlight, its half-human half-bird form became visible as Liu Entai lost control over Spirit Heart due to losing Yellow Talisman suppression; an overwhelming Qi surged around him.
"You have Yata no Kagami on you!" Gu Huo Niao exclaimed in shock.
"That's right; unfortunately for you fools from Wa Country!" With that, Liu Entai swung his palm toward Gu Huo Niao. However, having already suffered losses, Gu Huo Niao managed to evade and vanished in an instant using Shikigami and Onmyoji connections to return into Sakai's body. At this moment, although Liu Entai's Spirit Heart had activated his internal spiritual power, it was all an illusion—nothing substantial remained.
"Transcendence! Gu Huo Niao is cowardly against strength; this rumor is indeed true! Palace Brother, I’m sorry!" Under Qi’s urging, Liu Entai shot like lightning toward Li Gang’s direction. This was his only escape route; although he hadn’t yet broken through the aura on this side, facing two Jonin and a high-level Onmyoji was beyond Liu Entai’s current capabilities. Regardless of Zhao Gang’s fate, this path represented his best chance for survival.
However, at this moment, as Miyuki and the other two Jonin were gradually catching up, Sakai Tomokazu suddenly sensed the return of Gu Huo Niao. He immediately signaled the two Jonin to turn around and pursue Liu Entai. At this point, Sakai could only hope that Oshima and the others could stop the exhausted Liu Entai. However, he was unaware that Oshima was already in a precarious situation.
