Time flew by in an instant. Outside the largest church in the capital of America, Xiao Yefeng held a long rectangular gift box in his hand, while Mo Fei had already disappeared into the crowd entering the church for the service.
Mo Fei had long since gained international fame. Even though he had hidden himself well, over the past few years, he had helped Huaxia with numerous matters. However, Catherine found herself puzzled when investigating the passengers; none of them had any martial arts background, let alone connections to the Extraordinary Person circle. Now she was assigned security duty outside America's first cathedral, Cathedral. As a devout believer, Catherine felt no discomfort being there since it was a place she often visited.
Standing at the entrance of Cathedral, as a mage, Catherine did not need to stand guard under the blazing sun. Her task was to handle any disruptions caused by a couple preparing for their engagement ceremony inside.
As a devout believer, Catherine understood how honorable it was to hold an engagement ceremony at Cathedral. However, according to intelligence reports, someone intended to disrupt this ceremony, which infuriated her. Catherine vowed that if anyone caused trouble, she would subdue them immediately!
Moreover, this engagement's male lead held a special identity—rumored to be a Saint Child of the Church—making it even more imperative for Catherine to protect the entrance with honor. Standing at the door, she had already spotted four or five enemies and quickly connected with her earpiece radio.
"Four low-level Graymane Werewolves have appeared at the main entrance of Cathedral along with over ten genetically modified individuals. Should we take action to expel them?" Catherine reported.
"Don't engage! As long as these people don't enter the Cathedral, we won't interfere with them!" The familiar voice crackled through the earpiece; it was Catherine's captain.
"Understood!" Although Catherine was itching to take action, orders were orders, and obedience was paramount.
However, every word Catherine spoke was clearly heard by Xiao Yefeng. While he couldn't hear whispers from over a hundred meters away in such a bustling scene, Xiao Yefeng was fluent in multiple languages and skilled in lip reading. As long as he could see the movements of someone's lips, he could translate about ninety percent of what was said.
"Graymane Werewolf? Genetically Modified Human?" Xiao Yefeng murmured to himself as he deciphered Catherine's lips. He understood that Graymane Werewolf referred to the werewolves from Mingjing to Peak of Bright Strength, while Genetically Modified Human likely referred to those from the Zodiac. Following Catherine's line of sight, Xiao Yefeng scanned the area.
His tricolor Yin-Yang Eye, hidden behind sunglasses, revealed a multitude of figures outside the Cathedral, which appeared to him as clusters of glowing orbs. The light from the elderly, women, and children faded away, leaving only a dozen or so powerful energy signatures.
Sure enough, as he focused on these lights, he saw them materialize before him—men and women alike. To his surprise, he spotted three vampires among them. Moreover, there were enemy werewolves present. Even though werewolves and vampires had formed an alliance, they typically clashed upon meeting. At this moment, four low-level Graymane Werewolves stood alongside three Baron-level vampires, all seemingly aware of each other's presence. This puzzled Xiao Yefeng; could it be that the Metaphysics Society's intelligence was inaccurate?
"Ding ding ding!" The sound of a large bell ringing from within the Cathedral indicated that the engagement ceremony was about to begin. As Xiao Yefeng looked around, he spotted a familiar figure appearing at the Cathedral's entrance.
It was Li Xiangjun! Xiao Yefeng hadn't expected Li Xiangjun to be his cover; this was quite a surprise. It was rumored that Li Xiangjun had recently overcome her final hurdle and become the second person in Huaxia to pass through Inner Force and enter the realm of advanced practitioners. At that moment, Li Xiangjun wore a traditional Tang Suit adorned with a string of polished copper coins hanging at her waist as she entered the Cathedral. Catherine's attempts to obstruct her were effortlessly repelled by an invisible wave of force.
Just as Catherine prepared to report this development, all the werewolf hybrids she had noticed surged toward the Cathedral! Stunned for a moment, Catherine exclaimed, "Have you all lost your minds? How dare you charge into the Cathedral! Don't you know this is the headquarters of the Church?"
"Oh! This girl is quite charming; I admire you! Step aside now, and tonight I'll treat you well!" One Graymane Werewolf who had clearly entered his wolf mode took advantage of his speed to lightly stroke Catherine's rear and whispered in her ear.
"How dare you!" Infuriated by his advances, Catherine summoned a golden glow in her palm and drew a dagger from her sleeve. Empowered by her Gold Element Ability, she slashed toward the werewolf's throat.
At that moment, a beam of Blood Energy surged from Catherine's right side, aiming directly at her vital spot. With no choice but to defend herself, Catherine abandoned her attack on the werewolf. After blocking the Blood Energy with her Gold Element Ability, she was taken aback to see the vampire and werewolf standing together. Shocked, she exclaimed, "The vampire and werewolf are attacking me simultaneously, and the vampire even saved the werewolf! How is this possible?"
"Girl! Just fall!" This time, the werewolf showed no mercy. Its claws reached out directly toward Catherine's neck, clearly indicating that it was close to Crimson Mane. The red energy swirling around its claws left no chance for survival.
In that instant, a blue gift box tied with a bow appeared in front of the werewolf's claws, blocking the deadly strike. At that moment, all six eyes—those of the werewolf, vampire, and Catherine—turned to the owner of the gift box. Xiao Yefeng spun his hand, causing the gift box to spin rapidly, pushing back both the werewolf and vampire while simultaneously sending Catherine flying.
With a mix of shock and confusion in her eyes, Catherine tilted her head and fainted. The vampire was taken aback and asked, "You're not one of the officials?"
The werewolf directly inquired, "Huaxia People?"
However, Xiao Yefeng did not respond to either of them. Instead, he asked, "Since when did vampires and werewolves get along so well?"
After Xiao Yefeng's words, the vampire and werewolf exchanged glances before looking away from each other. Xiao Yefeng understood that this situation was complicated; someone had orchestrated for both vampires and werewolves to enter the Cathedral at the same time. It seemed that the Western Divine Descent Society also did not want the Church to complete this Saint Child blessing ceremony!
"Never mind; since it's a Huaxia People mission, we can't delay! Let's go!" The vampire turned and dashed into the Cathedral, while the werewolf glanced at Xiao Yefeng before following suit.
Left standing in place with a puzzled expression was Xiao Yefeng. In the distance, Catherine had been helped up by a kind-hearted person and appeared to be contacting medical assistance. Meanwhile, chaos erupted inside the Cathedral as officials clashed with members of the Divine Descent Society who had infiltrated it. Fortunately, outside were only ordinary people and regular police; any scuffles would merely be physical confrontations.
Seeing this scene made Xiao Yefeng realize that it was indeed members of the Divine Descent Society causing trouble. They anticipated that Huaxia would come for someone and knew that the Church would not easily allow Huaxia people to enter. Understanding that Huaxia would not actively break their contract or bring an army to bear down on them, they chose to create chaos instead—providing an opportunity for Huaxia individuals to enter the inner sanctum while simultaneously hindering the Church's blessing ceremony. This also served as a small favor to Huaxia; although it might not hold much value, in a country like Huaxia that valued relationships deeply, it could be seen as a significant gesture.
