Living Funeral
I watched from the side, observing the unwilling Feng Li, but Ling Yu did not heed her protests.
Ling Yu deceived Feng Li, saying, "If I put this blue light into your body, he might just come back to life within you."
At that moment, Feng Li was already in tears and asked Ling Yu, "Is that really true?"
Ling Yu replied, "Of course it's true! I would never lie."
Feng Li said, "Then hurry up."
Ling Yu quickly gathered the dissipating soul and placed it into Feng Li's body. Feng Li then asked, "So Chen Fei won't die now, right?" Ling Yu responded, "Yes, you will follow me from now on."
Feng Li questioned, "Where are you taking me? Chen Fei's body hasn't been buried yet."
Ling Yu assured her, "You don't need to worry about that; someone will handle it."
Taking Feng Li's hand, Ling Yu prepared to leave. However, Feng Li became somewhat reluctant and insisted on burying me. She said, "If we don't bury Chen Fei, he won't be able to reincarnate."
Ling Yu countered, "Even if we bury him, it doesn't guarantee anything." With those words, Ling Yu appeared somewhat lost in thought. Then she reached out and gently stroked Feng Li's head. Gradually, Feng Li fell into a deep sleep. Ling Yu glanced at me without saying a word and walked away.
I stood there for a long time, wanting to see who would take my body away. Time passed slowly. At that moment, I had transformed from a firsthand experiencer into an observer of everything happening around me.
After waiting for nearly an hour, I heard someone complain, "It must be Chen Fei who got into trouble. Otherwise, the Book of Ten Thousand Ghosts wouldn't have lost its power."
At first, I couldn't recognize the voice, but soon I heard Hu Qingming say, "Don't always think of the worst."
At that moment, I realized Hu Qingming and the others were approaching. Soon enough, I saw three figures walking up the slope.
Hu Qingming, Jiang Changsheng, and Xiao Tongwen quickly approached. Once they were close enough to see my body, Xiao Tongwen spoke up, "I told you, didn't I? He really is in trouble."
"Quick, check on him!"
Xiao Tongwen was the first to test the waters. After a moment, he said, "He's dead! Chen Fei is dead."
Hu Qingming exclaimed, "Don't be ridiculous! How could that be possible?"
"Why don't you try it yourself?"
After Xiao Tongwen's words, Hu Qingming checked my breath and then said, "He really is dead! Changsheng."
Jiang Changsheng's expression immediately shifted between hope and despair as he glanced around. "Is he really dead? I refuse to believe it." He muttered to himself, his gaze slowly turning toward me. I looked back at Jiang Changsheng, but we existed in two different realms.
I could see him, but he might not see me. Yet, the determination in his eyes was clear.
Jiang Changsheng believed I was still alive, but I had witnessed my own death. Xiao Tongwen insisted, "Changsheng, stop deceiving yourself. Chen Fei is definitely gone."
"Not necessarily," Jiang Changsheng replied.
Hu Qingming added, "But it really does seem like he's dead." His voice carried a hint of disappointment. But he couldn't accept that I was gone.
Xiao Tongwen said, "Exactly! He can't be dead. Whoever did this will pay dearly. If I had been there, I would have made sure they suffered."
Hu Qingming responded, "What good does that do now? The urgent matter is to bring Chen Fei back to life!"
Xiao Tongwen retorted, "Do you think bringing him back will be easy? His soul has scattered; it's nearly impossible for him to survive. Besides, with all the True Dragon Qi dissipated, this version of Chen Fei is useless."
Hu Qingming said, "I still can't believe he would die so easily."
Jiang Changsheng said nothing, but looked at my body. After a moment, he asked, "Brother, are you really dead? With your personality, you must have left yourself a way out."
Jiang Changsheng was speaking to me, but at that moment, I couldn't respond. Had I left a way out? To be honest, I didn't know myself.
Hu Qingming turned to Jiang Changsheng and asked, "What do we do now?"
Jiang Changsheng replied, "First, let's move my brother's body."
The three of them quickly sprang into action. Jiang Changsheng carried my bloodied form and began walking ahead. I followed them through the darkness of the night. Just then, I looked up and noticed that the star that belonged to me suddenly brightened.
I was extremely curious; why had it lit up again? Could it be that I really wasn't dead?
That was impossible. Just moments ago, I had clearly seen my soul leave my body. My heart was filled with curiosity as I pursued the light; I didn't even understand my past self.
After walking for a while, Jiang Changsheng's burden, Chen Fei, suddenly moved. My heart raced with surprise—why did he move?
Xiao Tongwen was the first to notice. "He moved!" Xiao Tongwen exclaimed.
I was stunned. Was I really that strong before? How could I still be alive? Yet just moments ago, I had felt death so vividly.
Hu Qingming's expression was equally remarkable. "I knew Chen Fei wouldn't die so easily."
Chen Fei on Jiang Changsheng's back seemed about to speak. I hurried closer to listen, curious about what he would say at this moment. As I leaned in, he suddenly looked up at me with blood-red eyes. In that instant, I felt a mix of pity and fear for Chen Fei.
He stared intently at me as tears unexpectedly slipped from my eyes—not clear tears, but blood-red ones.
We locked eyes for a few seconds. It seemed he recognized me. Then he suddenly said, "Take me back to West San Village."
"What's the point of going there?" Xiao Tongwen asked.
"It will definitely be useful if he goes. Just go," Hu Qingming replied.
"Go!" Jiang Changsheng uttered a single word.
West San Village flashed through my mind quickly. I had been to West San Village before; both Zhang Xun and Fatty Zhang had been there, so nothing could have gone wrong. Could it be that West San Village was also connected to me? West San Village was also known as Mountain Lodge.
Hearing the two of them, Xiao Tongwen didn't say much and decided to go.
Xiao Tongwen walked beside me and said, "Chen Fei, what kind of monster are you? How can you not die from this?"
From Jiang Changsheng's back, Chen Fei replied, "Do you want me to die? The True Dragon Qi in my body has been transferred out, which is why I'm still alive."
"What do you mean?"
"You wouldn't understand," Chen Fei said.
Xiao Wentong remarked, "Chen Fei, you're about to die and still acting so arrogant."
Back at the Chen Residence, I had been quite gentle. Now, the separated Chen Fei had become a bit more domineering and directly cursed at Fatty Zhang.
Xiao Tongwen immediately lost his temper. Jiang Changsheng hurried on, and after nearly a night of climbing, we finally reached West San Village. Upon arrival, Xiao Tongwen shouted loudly, "Open the door for me!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the door swung open.
Soon enough, we saw someone coming out from inside—more than just one or two people; there were nearly dozens of them.
Xiao Tongwen said, "Chen Fei, you're about to die, yet you still remember to come back to your old nest."
At that moment, I saw a few teenagers step forward. Upon seeing Jiang Changsheng, they all bowed in greeting. I recognized them at a glance: Zhang Xun, the chubby Zhang, Li Qiang, and another person who was missing.
Suddenly, I understood why both Zhang Xun and Li Qiang could crawl out of the coffin with me. But until now, the Fifth Person had not emerged.
Wu Luo and his father also appeared. This was West San Village; indeed, this was West San Village.
Both Wu Luo and his father called me "Master."
Xiao Tongwen interjected, "Call me Fat Master."
But wait! If they called me "Master," why did they try to harm me back in West San Village? Had they betrayed me?
Did Zhang Xun and the chubby Zhang along with Li Qiang all come out from West San Village? They must have been unable to leave Mountain Lodge at that time because Mountain Lodge was the stronghold of Jiang Changsheng and me. Later on, Jiang Changsheng sent these people to protect me.
I thought that must be how it happened. When I returned to Mountain Lodge, it had already betrayed us. This meant that the chubby Zhang and Zhang Xun never even set foot inside Mountain Lodge.
At that moment, the main door opened, and these people were outside welcoming me. Jiang Changsheng carried Chen Fei inside. I followed closely behind as we entered.
Jiang Changsheng suddenly called for Zhang Xun and the others to come closer. He said, "Chen Fei might die; do you know what to do afterward?"
Zhang Xun and the others replied that they understood.
Wu Luo and his father stood aside. I found it strange that they could call my name upon seeing me; it turned out there was more to this story.
I was curious about what would happen next because the events that followed were crucial; so many bizarre things were about to unfold. At that moment, I felt like an observer witnessing my own past.
Jiang Changsheng placed Chen Fei's body onto the bed.
I looked at myself, covered in blood, feeling a pang of sympathy. Zhang Xun and the others stood beside me, exchanging glances and remaining silent. I spoke up, "Don't worry, I'm not that easy to kill. This isn't something you need to handle yet."
Zhang Xun, who had always had a cool demeanor since his teenage years, replied, "Even if you die, we won't be afraid. We'll do what needs to be done."
Xiao Tongwen chimed in, "You talk a big game."
Many things had been kept hidden.
Zhang Xun asked, "Who are you?"
Xiao Tongwen responded, "You don't need to worry about who we are."
I watched from the side. Logically, Zhang Xun had met Hu Qingming and Xiao Tongwen before, but it seemed he didn't remember that encounter; he only recalled Hu Qingming's transmission. It appeared someone had tampered with their memories.
It was likely during the time they were in the coffin that Jiang Changsheng had intervened.
Suddenly, I felt a weight in my heart. Some people's fates are predetermined from the start—like Zhang Pangzi, who died in Dead Man's Cave trying to save me; or Zhang Xun, who blocked the Hundred Demons Carrying the Coffin on Coffin Street to allow my escape; and Li Qiang, who never truly tried to kill me until the very end.
These people's destinies... now had an ending.
I sighed. However, Zhang Xun and the others remained resolute. Jiang Changsheng soon ushered them out. Wu Luo and his father also left. Only the four of us remained in the room.
Hu Qingming asked, "Chen Fei, do you have a way to save yourself?"
At this moment, Chen Fei was a complete entity—he possessed all of his memories from that time and was not confused by my previous presence in his body. His thoughts were coherent.
He lay by the window, looking as if he were on the brink of death, unable to move.
Xiao Tongwen kept asking, "Chen Fei, how did you end up like this? What can you do to survive?"
Hu Qingming, unable to listen to Xiao Tongwen's incessant questioning any longer, interjected, "Don't you know who Changsheng and Chen Fei's master are?"
At this point, Xiao Tongwen suddenly realized, "Could it be…"
"Shut up!" Chen Fei shouted from the bed.
Xiao Tongwen immediately closed his mouth, and Jiang Changsheng said to him, "Don't you know there are some things you shouldn't say?"
Xiao Tongwen's expression changed slightly; he chuckled awkwardly to brush off the tension. He then asked, "Chen Fei, don't you have a way to save yourself?"
From the bed, Chen Fei replied, "Do I need to save myself? Come over here; I need to discuss something with you." The three of them quickly gathered around. Chen Fei continued, "The Yin-Yang Ghost Path has been sealed off. You all understand what that means."
Hu Qingming nodded and said, "I understand."
"I might need to borrow a soul for a life extension."
"What?" Jiang Changsheng exclaimed in surprise, breaking his usual composure.
