Living Funeral
I saw Xiong Ao approaching and stepped in front of him, saying, "What are you doing?"
Xiong Ao replied, "I want to see the child."
I said, "You can't look."
The village chief interjected, "Does the master need your permission to see the child? Uncle, let your child show the master."
Hearing the village chief call the old man "Uncle," I realized they were relatives. The old man asked me, "Benefactor, is it alright if he takes a look?"
I still insisted, "No."
The old man seemed to be in a difficult position. The village chief said, "Uncle, let your daughter-in-law bring the child over to take a look; it won't cost you anything."
Xiong Ao took a step forward, but I blocked his path. The village chief, seeing me obstructing him, signaled for those behind him to prepare to act. He said to me, "Who do you think you are? Do you have a say here?"
I replied, "Regardless of whether I have a say here or not, you cannot look at this child."
"Why not? Do you know that the child is a Demon?"
I responded, "He is not a Demon; I just think you are not a good person. You are causing trouble at someone else's funeral—how can you be a good person?"
Heng Shao overheard me calling his master a bad person and said, "Friend, you're mistaken. My master is an unequivocal good person. So many people died in Yang Village; my master came here out of compassion to catch the Demon and restore peace to Yang Village."
I reiterated, "No matter what your master is here for, there can be no Ritual here today, nor can anyone look at the child."
I turned to Yang Jinjiao's mother and said, "Take the child inside."
The old man was caught in a dilemma and didn't know what to do. I directly told him, "If you want the child to be safe, wrap him up and take him inside."
The village chief said confidently, "I still don't believe we can't handle you. Afu, get some people to deal with him." The person called Afu shouted for several others to come and confront me. Damn it! Four people—I really couldn't take them on! I turned to Nian Chen and the others and urged them, "Quickly go inside and close the door."
At that moment, the old man stepped forward and said, "Gui Tao, he is my Benefactor. Can you please refrain from acting violently on my account?"
The village chief said, "Uncle, you need to understand the situation clearly. This isn't just about the noodles; it's about the fact that so many people in our village have died because of the Demon."
The old man was at a loss for words. I could see that although the village chief called him 'old man,' he truly did not regard him highly. The four from Afu were ready to strike. Damn it, if they were going to fight, I stepped in front of Nian Chen and said, "What are you waiting for? If you get hurt later, what will you do?"
The four from Afu showed no mercy as they approached with clenched fists, preparing to attack. I was still thinking about how to dodge their punches when, in the next moment, Afu was kicked away. I stood there in shock.
Nian Chen stepped forward and asked me, "Fei, are you alright?"
I replied, "...I'm fine." It was clear that Nian Chen had some training. Afu had suffered a loss, and the others quickly regained their composure. The four of them charged at Nian Chen together, but even as a group, they were no match for him. I had been worried just moments ago.
Before long, Nian Chen had taken care of the four of them. Xiong Ao exchanged a few words with Heng Shao, who then joined the fray. From his stance, it was evident that he was also skilled in combat.
Heng Shao and Nian Chen exchanged blows for over ten rounds, reaching a stalemate. Taking advantage of the situation, Afu turned his attention to me. I threw a punch at him, landing it squarely on his chest. He staggered back a few steps and shouted, "You all get in here! What are you waiting for?"
It turned out that I alone was no match for four people; they quickly overpowered me and held me tightly. Blood trickled from my mouth where I had been struck.
At that moment, Nian Chen couldn't break free.
Seeing my predicament, the village chief taunted me, "So, how does it feel now? Still arrogant?"
I shot back at him, "Do you think you've won? If you bring in a master to help you out, your death will come soon enough."
"Damn it! You think you're so clever," the village chief retorted before delivering a punch to my stomach. Damn it! Dealing with humans and dealing with demons really are two different things! Just then, Bai rushed out and shouted, "You can't bully people like this!"
I told White Path, "You don't need to worry about me; I'm fine."
At that moment, the village chief ordered, "Tie him to that tree."
Upon hearing this command, Afu and his companions dragged me over and bound me to a tree. Bai attempted to rescue me but was pushed to the ground. Bai got back up only to receive a slap from the village chief as he cursed, "Get out of here!"
I felt anger boiling inside me and cursed back at him—damn it all! Even hitting a child! Then I turned to White Path and said firmly, "Don't worry about me; I'm fine."
Yang Jinjiao's family didn't dare show their faces at this point; the village chief was indeed ruthless. Nian Chen approached us now that he was no longer entangled with Heng Shao. Heng Shao chased after him while blocking our way along with Afu and his companions.
"Nian Chen, help us untie the ropes," Bai said, a handprint still visible on his face. I started walking over, but someone blocked my way. Damn it, that bastard village chief! I was itching to take a swing at him.
But right now, we couldn't overpower them, so we had to back down.
At this moment, the old man and his family dared not resist. The village chief only had eyes for the child; if harm were to come to the kid, this family would surely refuse to comply. The village chief held the child in his arms and asked, "What is this child's name?"
The old man replied, "Yang Jinjiao."
"Good name," the village chief said, but Xiong Ao muttered something about "Golden Horn." Xiong Ao was already preparing to perform a ritual.
Oh no, this is bad. Xiong Ao must know what that name means. Yang Jinjiao was crying incessantly, and it was starting to get on my nerves.
I shouted at the old man, "If you want your grandson to live, you need to take him and leave here right now."
The old man hesitated a bit. The village chief said, "Don't listen to his nonsense."
As I watched Xiong Ao getting ready to perform the ritual, Nian Chen said, "Fly, don't rush."
At that moment, Heng Shao was busy burning ghost money, and candles were lit. The old man was still hesitating. Xiong Ao then said, "Put the child on this table."
Upon hearing this, the old man refused and tried to snatch the child back. But there was no way he could succeed; his whole family rushed in to grab the child but were all stopped.
Xiong Ao spoke up to reassure the old man, "Old Man, don't worry. I'm just going to remove some evil energy from your grandson; there's nothing else intended."
The old man asked, "Really?"
Xiong Ao replied, "Of course it's true. If anything happens to your grandson, I'll have to pay with my life. I wouldn't joke about my own life. That talisman hanging around your grandson's neck is also meant for warding off evil spirits; my intention is similar."
This speech completely convinced the old man. He said, "As long as my grandson is safe. So hurry up!"
Xiong Ao responded, "It will be quick." After saying that, he took away the blood talisman I had placed on Yang Jinjiao. Once the talisman was removed, Yang Jinjiao immediately stopped crying loudly, and at the same time, the aura around his head dimmed.
Dark clouds began to gather in the sky. Damn it! It had been clear just moments ago; now it had darkened significantly.
Bai asked me, "Is it going to rain again?"
I looked at the sky, and it certainly seemed like rain was on the way. My gaze was fixed on them, as Afu and a few others arrogantly blocked our path, their expressions daring us to come closer. Although I felt anxious inside, there was nothing I could do.
The Dragon King was probably facing a dire situation.
At that moment, Xiong Ao reached out and pressed a hand on Yang Jinjiao's head. Yang Jinjiao let out a cry, a sound so unexpected from a child that it was startling. Despite the pain, he didn’t cry afterward, which was truly strange.
The old man asked, "What’s going on?"
Xiong Ao replied, "It's nothing. There’s a yin spirit causing trouble inside the child. Was he born feet first?"
The old man was taken aback for a moment before quickly responding, "Yes! How did you know?"
Xiong Ao explained, "Being possessed by a yin spirit happens like this. That’s why when he cried out, the sound was amplified by the spirit. However, it's already quite lucky that he has survived this long."
"What should we do?" the old man asked urgently.
Xiong Ao said, "It's simple. We just need to extract the yin spirit from his body. Now I will make an incision at his forehead."
