Living Funeral
I saw the Taoist shake his head again, and I was truly anxious inside. Could he at least give me a clear answer about whether I could live?
The Taoist sighed and said to me, "First, let’s release the 'Yin Blood.'” My neck had turned black and looked a bit swollen.
It must be due to the swelling, probably excess blood inside. Rather than 'Yin Blood,' it felt more like some kind of 'Toxic Water'!
I asked the Taoist how to draw blood.
He replied, "Just pierce the skin with a sterilized silver needle."
Right now, I really couldn’t touch it; even the slightest movement felt like it would cause unbearable pain. It was obviously not something I could do alone! I had no choice but to find Gao Ling.
Gao Ling was still cursing inside the house, calling someone an idiot over and over.
I knocked hard on Gao Ling's door, banging on it several times before he finally opened it.
Gao Ling said, "Fei, it's so late. What’s going on?" As soon as he finished speaking, he froze in shock. He quickly asked me, "Fei, what happened to you? Are you poisoned? Are you going to die?"
I was speechless…
I told Gao Ling that I might have been cursed by someone.
"Who? Who cursed you? I'll go take revenge right now! It might be that Zhao Fan; he's not a good person."
I urged Gao Ling not to worry about that for now and to quickly find a silver needle to help me draw blood. Seeing my neck swollen like this, Gao Ling didn’t hesitate and hurriedly found a sewing needle. After heating it in the fire, he asked me, "Is this really going to work?" His tone was uncertain because the place to pierce was my neck—a very vulnerable spot. If he wasn’t careful, it could cost a living person's life.
I looked at the Taoist, who pointed to a spot on his own neck and said, "Here."
I quickly told Gao Ling where to pierce. He still hesitated for a moment. I reassured him that I would be fine and urged him to act quickly; if he didn’t do it soon, I might die even faster.
Seeing my condition, Gao Ling gathered his courage and swiftly pierced the needle in.
The woman in the red dress looked at me with a worried expression and said, "Chen Lang, you must be okay."
I nodded in response.
Blood dripped into a bowl, and as my blood fell, a foul odor began to emanate from it. To describe it as simply unpleasant would be an understatement.
Gao Ling covered her nose and exclaimed, "What the hell, Fei, what kind of poison did you get hit with?"
I didn't hide anything from Gao Ling. I replied that it seemed to be the 'Yin Curse.' Upon hearing this, Gao Ling's demeanor shifted to one of agitation; she clearly knew what the Yin Curse was. "Fei, getting hit by the Yin Curse can be fatal. Are you sure that's what you have?"
Before this moment, I had no idea how serious the Yin Curse could be, but upon catching a whiff of the Yin Blood's stench, I realized just how potent it was.
"Fei, merely bleeding you out won't save you. We need to think of a way; otherwise, you might really be in trouble!" Gao Ling's tone grew increasingly urgent.
The foul smell filled the air. The Taoist priest looked at me expressionlessly, while the woman in red gazed at me with deep concern.
She turned to the Taoist and pleaded, "Master, please find a way to save Chen Lang."
The Taoist told her not to panic and suggested they observe for a bit longer.
Gao Ling continued to let my blood flow while talking to me. I had heard of the Yin Curse before but had never seen it in person! I figured I should call my dad.
I reassured Gao Ling, "Don't worry too much."
Gao Ling shot back, "Damn it, Fei! Your life is on the line; how can I not worry?"
By this point, most of my blood had been drained. Gao Ling was genuinely concerned for me. I said to her, "I'm not dead yet, am I?"
I pressed a cotton pad against my wound. After finishing the bloodletting, I did feel somewhat better.
Gao Ling took out her phone to call her dad, but unfortunately, the call didn't go through.
I was actually worried about whether I would die or not. I waited for the Taoist's response, and the woman in red felt the same way.
Gao Ling started cursing, "It was just a mistake from a few years ago! Damn it, you haven't paid any attention to me for years."
Gao Ling's family was indeed strange; his parents only took Gao Qing with them and never brought him along. It seemed there was some deep-seated conflict. I asked Gao Ling what mistake he had made.
Gao Ling, however, was vague and unclear about it, and neither of us pressed further.
At that moment, the Taoist walked over to me and said, "If you want to live, you must find the Yin Cat." What kind of cat is the Yin Cat?
I waited for the Taoist to continue. He explained that this type of cat was rare and might even be on the verge of extinction.
I thought to myself, if that's the case, I might not survive. I couldn't help but think this way, but the woman in red encouraged me, saying that as long as there is hope, I shouldn't give up. She then asked the Taoist where to find the Yin Cat.
The Taoist replied that, as the name suggests, it can only be found in places with heavy Yin Qi. If we wanted to find it, we should go now.
Gao Ling ran off to call his father.
I asked the Taoist where places with heavy Yin Qi were located. The Taoist reminded me to think carefully.
I felt like the Taoist was hinting at something. After a moment of thought, I wondered if he meant a funeral home. It couldn't be denied that funeral homes had heavy Yin Qi; however, I had never seen a cat there! If I really only had three days left, finding such a cat would be difficult. The funeral home was out of the question. Suddenly, I thought of another place—the gathering place of Ghost Old Three.
I felt that it was quite possible. After telling the Taoist my thoughts, he pondered for a moment before agreeing that it could work.
I nodded in agreement.
There was no time to waste; matters concerning life and death needed to be resolved quickly!
I called out to Gao Ling. He was still cursing over there; it seemed his call hadn't gone through. Gao Ling exclaimed in frustration, "This is driving me crazy! Even that girl Gao Qing is ignoring me!"
I told Gao Ling not to be angry and suggested we go out to catch a cat right away. Gao Ling replied, "Fly, stop messing around! You're about to die; how can you still have time to catch a cat?"
I told Gao Ling that catching a cat could save me.
Gao Ling looked at me suspiciously and said, "The Yin Curse can only be resolved by the Yin Cat, right?" After I spoke, Gao Ling asked, "Do you have confidence in this? I've noticed you seem to know more and more."
I explained, "Have you forgotten where I work? Dealing with the dead, how could I not know a thing or two? Besides, I just called an old employee from the funeral home."
Seeing my confidence, Gao Ling had no reason to doubt me and said, "Alright then, let's not waste any time. We should head out now."
I needed to prepare some food that cats like.
Gao Ling replied, "That's simple. I still have some leftover fish in my fridge. We can take that and buy a few cans of fish at the store later."
With the fish and canned food in hand, Gao Ling and I set off.
The Taoist priest didn't come along, but the woman in red kept close to me. She asked with concern, "Chen Lang, does it still hurt?"
Of course it hurt; comparatively, it wasn't as painful as before. However, I didn't want the woman in red to worry too much, so I replied, "It doesn't hurt anymore."
Tears welled up in her eyes from worry.
I smiled and reassured her, "Really, it's fine. If you don't believe me, you can poke me." To my surprise, the woman in red actually extended her finger to poke me... I thought about whether I should have said that. But if she wanted to poke me, then so be it; I would endure it. However, when she got closer, she merely blew gently on my neck. A cool sensation spread through me; it felt quite nice.
I smiled warmly, and a smile appeared on the woman's face as well.
Before long, we arrived at the place where we gathered Yin last time. Due to the previous incident, there were still some bloodstains on the ground.
Gao Ling and I placed the fish down and lay beside it waiting for the so-called Yin Cat to appear. However, after waiting for a while, no cat showed up.
Gao Ling took a drag from his cigarette and muttered, "Is there really a cat in this ghostly place?"
I began to doubt it too. Moreover, if there were no cat here and the Taoist had hinted for me to go to the funeral home, I certainly didn't want to go there now. Bringing the Taoist back with me wouldn't be appropriate either...
I was worried about bringing the Taoist back with me; if something went wrong, it would definitely end badly.
Damn it, I slowly realized that my neck seemed to be swelling up again, and it really didn't feel good.
After about an hour had passed, nothing had appeared. Then we saw a shadow, and my heart raced as I prepared to cast the net.
But to my surprise, it turned out to be a stray dog.
Gao Ling cursed, "Damn it, we waited for a cat and ended up with a dog."
I muttered a curse as well—damn dog.
Just then, Gao Ling's phone rang. He answered the call impatiently, "Fan Ge, why are you calling me so late? If you have something to say, just say it. If not, I'm hanging up. I'm busy here; I still need to catch a cat. Can you hurry up..."
Gao Ling rattled off a series of complaints. He continued, "What’s wrong? I'm just catching a cat! Not just any cat—it's a Yin Cat."
I told Gao Ling to stop with the nonsense and focus on the task at hand.
However, Gao Ling's next words caught my attention: "Wait, what? You have a Yin Cat? Are you serious?"
