Living Funeral
But just a second later, we saw a hand emerging from the ground, clutching a handful of dirt.
"It's a corpse resurrection!" Gao Ling exclaimed in shock, making a move as if to run away. In the pitch darkness, the sudden appearance of a hand from the earth indeed startled us all.
It seemed I was right; it really was a resurrection.
In the mass grave, Gao Ling said, if we ran now, we might still make it.
The bodies below seemed to be struggling to crawl out, and I felt a tingling sensation on my scalp, my heart racing with unease. Gao Ling was right; if we fled now, we could still escape.
However, Gao Qing clearly had no intention of leaving and was still observing.
Gao Ling urged Gao Qing, "What are you hesitating for? Let's go! Do you think your brother would harm you?"
Gao Qing replied, "Don't leave; the Millennium Coffin Soil might be about to appear."
Gao Ling scoffed, "Come on, it's not about the Millennium Coffin Soil. I think it's the Millennium Zombie that's about to resurrect. If we don't leave now, we're going to die here."
Gao Qing countered, "What conditions do these corpses have to resurrect? What can they rely on here?"
I was at a loss for words; at that moment, I felt Gao Qing was being somewhat unreasonable. When it comes to resurrection, does it really matter what they rely on?
Sometimes I really couldn't understand Gao Qing.
Gao Ling said, "That's something you need to ask the corpse grandpa. Ask it what it relies on for resurrection. Gao Qing, why are you so stubborn? When it's time to run, just run."
Gao Qing looked at me and asked, "Chen Fei, do you think so too?"
I nodded in agreement.
The corpse had already begun to rise, yet Gao Qing still believed in its authenticity; it was simply absurd.
After I expressed my stance, Gao Qing sighed and said in a tone filled with disappointment, "You two really are short-sighted. What makes this corpse rise? It's the Millennium Coffin Soil. In such a desolate place, these corpses wouldn't even have the chance to fake their death."
I was enlightened; I had no idea that Millennium Coffin Soil had such an effect!
Gao Ling and I were left speechless by Gao Qing's revelation.
At that moment, one of the corpse's arms stretched out, and its head slowly emerged from the ground. The sight was grotesque, causing us to instinctively step back a few paces.
Gao Ling then said, "Once the corpse is out, how do we collect the Millennium Coffin Soil?"
Gao Ling had no intention of running away now. Gao Qing suggested we wait and see what happens.
I felt a mix of anxiety as I watched the corpse claw its way out of the ground, a foul stench quickly filling the air.
I couldn't help but cover my mouth and nose with my hand. Gao Ling did the same, while Gao Qing remained fixated on the scene. At times, I even questioned whether Gao Qing was truly a woman.
Once the corpse fully emerged from the pit, Gao Qing instructed us, "Let's get to work."
However, neither of us moved quickly.
The flashlight beam illuminated the corpse, and it was truly terrifying. I held my breath, yet I couldn't control the frantic beating of my heart.
The skin on its body had rotted away, crumbling into pieces, covered in dirt. Its face was also caked with mud, revealing a pair of eyes devoid of pupils.
I gasped in shock.
Gao Qing circled the corpse, but it seemed like he found nothing unusual.
We scrutinized the body, but it felt as if the corpse was scrutinizing us in return.
Above us hung a bright full moon, casting a gentle light, yet our emotions were anything but calm.
Finally, after what felt like an examination, the corpse chose me. It began to approach me step by step, and I could feel cold sweat forming in my palms.
I stood frozen for a few seconds until Gao Qing shouted at me, “Chen Fei, what are you standing there for? Get out of the way!”
His shout jolted me back to reality, and I quickly moved aside.
But the corpse continued to advance toward me. Did it really think I was easy prey?
Gao Ling had already taken action; he kicked hard from behind, sending the corpse sprawling to the ground.
Gao Ling was quick; he swiftly pinned the corpse down. However, just a second later, the corpse flipped over and pinned Gao Ling beneath it.
Gao Ling was momentarily stunned before he yelled out, “Brother Fei, help me!”
I rushed forward and grabbed Gao Ling's leg, trying to pull her out from under the corpse. But it was not that easy; as I dragged Gao Ling, the body shifted along with her.
Gao Ling panicked and shouted, "Stop dragging! It's about to bite me!"
At that moment, Gao Qing was still standing still, as if observing something. I quickly released Gao Ling's leg and propped up the corpse's head.
Seeing that I was holding the corpse's head steady, Gao Ling finally breathed a sigh of relief.
However, I almost threw up because the stench from the body was unbearable, overwhelming me completely.
I said to Gao Ling, "For heaven's sake, use some strength and crawl out yourself!"
Gao Ling replied, "Just hold it for a bit longer; I'll be out soon." She looked at me with wide eyes, her expression somewhat innocent.
Inside, I felt like I was losing my mind.
I told Gao Ling that I really couldn't hold on much longer.
But she insisted that I should hold on for a few more minutes. Sweat beads were forming on my forehead, and my facial expression was definitely not pleasant; I really felt like throwing up.
In the end, I told Gao Ling once more that I couldn't hold on any longer.
Yet she said, "Just hold on for a few more minutes; let me see if there's anything valuable on this corpse."
Hearing this made me nearly spit blood in frustration. At a time like this, she was still thinking about searching for valuables?
I struggled to hold on, but I really couldn't take it anymore. The corpse was surprisingly heavy after its resurrection, and Gao Ling was still fiddling with something.
I gritted my teeth, beads of sweat dripping down my forehead.
Gradually, I felt my strength waning. Finally, I said, "Gao Ling, I really can't hold on any longer."
Taking a deep breath, I tried to muster my last bit of energy to see if I could flip the corpse off Gao Ling. I wrapped my hands around the corpse's head.
I silently counted to three in my mind. When I reached three, I suddenly exerted all my strength, expecting to flip the corpse over. To my shock, as I pulled, the head came right off.
I was completely stunned.
For a moment, it felt like I had plunged into an ice cellar. I was still holding the head in my hands, and a strange liquid began to drip down below.
Gao Ling quickly scrambled up from the ground. At that moment, everything felt frozen in time. Gao Ling's voice soon reached me: "Brother Fei, are you okay?"
Coming back to my senses, I looked at the head, which was still moving its mouth as if trying to speak.
In a panic, I threw the head onto the ground. My mind was a chaotic mess, but when I saw the sticky liquid on my hands, I finally couldn't hold back and started to vomit.
Damn it, I almost heaved up my insides.
Gao Ling came over to pat my back. Angrily, I cursed at him, "Can you be a little more reliable? You were still thinking about money at that time!"
Gao Ling chuckled and said, "Brother Fei, this time it's my fault. I'll make sure to do better next time."
I was too lazy to waste words with this guy, so I directly pushed Gao Ling aside and after spitting for a while, my gaze returned to the corpse.
The head of the corpse was separated from its body, and it seemed like the corpse that had faked its death could no longer move.
Is it dead? I asked.
Gao Ling replied, It should be dead. During this time, Gao Qing hadn’t made a move, and Gao Ling and I began searching the corpse for Millennium Coffin Soil.
However, after turning everything over, we still couldn’t find Millennium Coffin Soil. Gao Ling said, “Gao Qing, are you trying to trick us? Just now, both Brother Fei and I almost lost our lives, and you just sat back and watched the show. Where is this Millennium Coffin Soil?”
Just a moment ago, Gao Qing had been so confident, and now there was nothing. I was getting a bit angry.
I said, “Where exactly is your so-called Millennium Coffin Soil?”
Even though we questioned Gao Qing, she didn’t care at all whether we were angry.
Gao Qing walked straight towards the head of the corpse and lifted it with one hand. Then she turned around, but at that moment, I noticed that the mouth of the corpse's head was still moving slightly; it hadn’t completely died yet. Instantly, I felt a chill run down my spine.
I thought Gao Qing hadn’t noticed and wanted to remind her, but before I could say anything, I saw her reach into the mouth of the corpse…
