“Ha!” Ye Kai sighed, rubbing his face vigorously with his hands. He shook his head to clear his thoughts and took a deep breath, forcing a smile onto his face.
After all, he was here to collect rent. Although he was the landlord, there was no need to make their relationship too stiff!
This was an ordinary six-story residential building with four units. Each unit had six floors and twelve tenants in total, which served as his economic source for the rest of his life—at least that was the plan before.
“Ding dong!”
Ye Kai cleared his throat twice, preparing to act more naturally once the tenant opened the door.
“Creeeak!”
A jarring sound that made his teeth ache and his scalp tingle echoed as the iron door slowly creaked open. A faint female voice came from the other side of the door after a few seconds.
From the tone, she sounded quite young, probably in her early twenties. However, in this day and age, everything could be deceiving—faces, bodies; even voices could be misleading!
Strangely enough, as soon as Ye Kai heard the woman's voice, a flurry of questions he had never considered before popped into his mind. Yet he remained quiet outside the door.
"It's Dong Lai collecting the rent. Tell Lily to bring it over quickly; we can have some fun later," the bald man said, a pink scar on his forehead seeming to come alive, which made Ye Kai's eyes widen in surprise.
Soon after, there was a very faint sound of movement. The yellow-white curtain was lifted slightly, revealing a woman with no makeup on her face, looking quite natural.
However, her figure was anything but ordinary; as she moved her hair aside, she even showed a hint of shyness towards Ye Kai!
Who is this? Why have I never seen her before? Could she be Liuli Li's cousin or something? She's really beautiful, Ye Kai thought to himself.
But soon enough, his pupils constricted involuntarily as he caught sight of a vivid splash of red in the living room through the woman's motion of brushing her hair back.
A shiver ran down his spine as he cursed his bad luck inwardly.
Ye Kai had just been thinking to himself that he had lived for twenty-four years without ever encountering any robbers or bandits, and now, within less than ten minutes, he found himself in such a situation.
He felt like crying inside, regretting his decision to collect rent from the first floor instead of starting from the sixth. Why did he have to do this? Ah!
"Are you the landlord, brother? I didn't know that Lily had such a handsome brother. I can't bear to let you go..." The seductive woman blinked her big eyes, lightly brushing her red lips with one hand, teasing him like a cat.
Unfortunately, Ye Kai could see through her intentions; she was clearly a black widow. He wanted to curse her out but managed to change his words at the last moment: "I didn't expect Sister Lily to have such a beautiful sister. However, I can only appreciate your kindness.
