Chapter 44: Filth Bug
From the words of the Insect Emperor, Lian Yun realized that the area covered by the Filth Bug had expanded significantly compared to before, meaning that the Insect Emperor alone could not handle it.
Lian Yun merely nodded in response, not immediately agreeing. Although he desired the Purple Qi, he was looking for a place where he could fight for maximum Imperial Coin value.
If the Filth Bug was difficult to kill, then Lian Yun had no intention of battling there.
However, Lian Yun recalled that the Insect Emperor had mentioned that the Filth Bug was relatively easy to deal with and offered high rewards; it was just the issue of Insect Qi that made it daunting.
After flying nearly seven thousand miles, Lian Yun had a clear view through his vision lens and spotted two or three battle sites along the way, but he showed no interest in investigating them.
Upon reaching his destination, he finally saw what was referred to as the Filth Bug.
It was very different from what Lian Yun had imagined. He initially thought the Filth Bug would resemble the Evil Spirits found in Evil Spirit City, belonging to an insect or beetle-like form. However, what lay before him was a mass of black tentacles, each no wider than ten meters but stretching around a hundred meters long, appearing extremely slender.
If one looked out over the sea, it resembled a bizarre forest; all the tentacles swayed randomly as if playing or waiting for prey to stumble into their trap.
"No matter what kind of Filth it is, its bodily fluids possess a certain corrosive power against all things. If left unattended for too long, they will completely decay and become useless."
"Once I go down to fight, I won't be coming back up for a while. You can return after three days or ten days and see if you can encounter Zhang Yilian."
Lian Yun nodded as he watched the Insect Emperor dive down with a burst of speed, striking the surface of the sea and creating a hole in it.
Then Lian Yun realized that the water wasn't very deep—only about thirty meters. The Insect Emperor landed on the seabed and began to strike in all directions, clearing an enormous space of about one hundred meters around him. Meanwhile, black "roots" shot out from the sides of the parted water like spears aimed directly at where the Insect Emperor stood.
The Insect Emperor had anticipated this and paid no attention to what was behind him. Instead, he unleashed three powerful punches forward. The Filth Bug struck by his fists instantly transformed into black seawater and was pushed back over a hundred meters without touching the ground. Yet more tentacles surged forth from the sides.
One of the Filth Bugs behind him managed to stab at the Insect Emperor's back but narrowly missed; its tip suddenly curved away as if avoiding him entirely.
Lian Yun understood that this was the effect of the Vibrational Force on the surface of the Insect Emperor's body, yet he did not sense any gas entering the Insect Emperor.
After half a minute, within a radius of one hundred meters, five jet-black tentacles, gleaming with a metallic sheen, erupted from a cylindrical water wall about thirty meters high.
Three of the tentacles were shattered by the Insect Emperor, while two were deflected off its back. However, they caused the Insect Emperor to lean forward, and if he wasn't careful, the remaining tentacles could pierce through his front and face.
Fortunately, the Insect Emperor was clearly experienced. He simply turned with the momentum and struck out with both fists, easily smashing all the approaching tentacles before returning to his original stance.
However, after the five special tentacles were destroyed, a mass of gas dispersed into the air, unaffected by any force or pressure, as if it had decomposed.
Yet Lian Yun knew that this gas was what was referred to as Insect Qi. As the battle dragged on, the concentration of Insect Qi in his vicinity would increase to a certain level due to the Insect Emperor's breathing or direct invasion through his skin.
If there were no unexpected incidents, this was a fixed combat pattern for the Insect Emperor—a continuous battle that repeated over a long period.
Of course, some might think it would be better to change locations. However, the time spent moving in and out would allow the Insect Emperor to kill thousands of Filth Bugs. If that were the case, not only would it complicate the rhythm of battle but also waste time; it would be better to engage in combat elsewhere.
After observing for some time, Lian Yun quietly left and then circled around to slowly position himself directly opposite the Insect Emperor.
A portal had been established at a distance within the Filth Bug territory.
This time, the Filth Bugs attacked quickly but had low defenses and minimal mobility. For Lian Yun, they were excellent targets for hunting.
Moreover, this area covered by Filth Bugs spanned approximately five hundred miles and produced numbers far exceeding those killed by the Insect Emperor. Thus, Lian Yun's presence was not excessive. Additionally, as Ghost Slaves were about to undergo significant breakthroughs in their realms, they would require more Purple Qi than ever before.
As for why he established a portal at a distance within the Filth Bug territory, it was because he believed that with his presence, they could reduce the coverage area of these Filth Bugs.
Given the Insect Emperor's caution against touching Filth Bug bodily fluids during combat and previous warnings—including Yun Suiyi pointing out ten or so Common Soul Swords cutting at the head of a nearby Filth Bug—Lian Yun proceeded carefully.
He successfully severed it but witnessed instant regeneration. After another attempt at cutting through its body just above sea level, he saw it regenerate again; only by attacking from below could he kill it. Lian Yun then realized why the Insect Emperor's combat area was confined to within a radius of one hundred meters.
When the Insect Emperor descended to the ground, it meant that the Filth Bug could reach a length of about one hundred meters. Including the part connected to the ground, it was approximately one hundred thirty meters long. The only way to kill the Filth Bug was to attack within fifty meters above its root.
As for why the Insect Emperor chose to fight on the ground instead of at sea level, it was because, although the surface of the sea appeared calm, the waves could vary dramatically in height, with drops of thirty to fifty meters.
Sometimes, a single wave could render a full-force attack useless. An attack that seemed capable of covering a large area might have minimal actual effect. Therefore, fighting on solid ground was much more stable.
The Insect Emperor's Within a Radius of One Hundred Meters zone created a thirty-meter-high battle area. This not only allowed enough Filth Bugs to emerge but also ensured that every Filth Bug targeted would be successfully killed. This maximized both attack power and kill effectiveness.
This was a lesson learned, which the Insect Emperor passed on to Lian Yun. However, Lian Yun had his own thoughts.
The Insect Emperor's battle efficiency had reached its peak, but he could only earn one billion Imperial Coins in a month, which meant it would take about a hundred years to accumulate a trillion. If Lian Yun wanted to gather a trillion Imperial Coins, his harvest needed to be a hundred times greater than that of the Insect Emperor. Considering the time he could spend in Yin Yang City, he would need at least fifty times more.
Change was necessary.
However, after several attacks, Lian Yun's attention was drawn to his Soul Sword.
Although the Soul Sword was originally gray-black, parts of it had now turned gray-yellow. The gray-yellow sections exuded an aura of decay and corruption, threatening to disintegrate at any moment.
