Chapter: Climbing the Rankings
It is important to understand that while the basic rankings offer rewards, those on the list are generally regarded as exceptionally gifted individuals. The rewards from the basic rankings pale in comparison to those from the BSS Tower, which is why few people pay much attention to them.
However, the BSS Tower is entirely different. Although it offers rewards once a week, it essentially represents a person's peak combat power. To some extent, the BSS Tower better reflects an individual's true fighting ability.
Moreover, after reaching the fortieth floor, the rewards for each level become enviably substantial.
For instance, in the first thirty levels, those on the Ranking List can defeat their opponents in an instant, with virtually no time difference—everyone is essentially ranked first. The reward for the first level is ten Honor Points and one hundred White Spirit Coins; for the second level, it is twenty Honor Points and two hundred White Spirit Coins; and so on. Thus, the total rewards for reaching the thirtieth level amount to four thousand six hundred fifty Honor Points and forty-six thousand five hundred White Spirit Coins.
The reward for first place on the thirtieth floor is three hundred Honor Points and three thousand White Spirit Coins, while for the thirty-first floor, it is six hundred Honor Points and six thousand White Spirit Coins. The thirty-second floor offers nine hundred Honor Points and nine thousand Diamond Spirit Coins, continuing this way up to the thirty-ninth floor. The reward for the fortieth floor is five thousand Honor Points and fifty thousand Diamond Spirit Coins.
Lian Yun has secured first place in all ten of these levels, accumulating over twenty thousand Honor Points and more than two hundred thousand White Spirit Coins.
After the fortieth floor, rewards double: for the forty-first floor, it’s ten thousand Honor Points and one hundred thousand White Spirit Coins; for the forty-second floor, it’s twenty thousand Honor Points and two hundred thousand White Spirit Coins.
Lian Yun again took first place on the forty-first floor but only managed third place on the forty-second floor, earning eighteen thousand Honor Points and eighteen thousand White Spirit Coins.
Additionally, there are leaderboard rankings. Lian Yun only made it to the forty-second floor and did not qualify for a spot on the leaderboard, thus missing out on further rewards. This isn’t solely about strength; it’s also a numbers game. For example, on the Thirteenth Layer, there were ten people who succeeded in clearing it, leaving Lian Yun with no chance to make it onto the leaderboard.
Nevertheless, even so, Lian Yun's total rewards from the Ranking List amount to fifty-three thousand Honor Points and five hundred thirty thousand White Spirit Coins. This weekly haul could sustain many champions for several years.
However, this isn’t even the main point. The real highlight is that Lian Yun is recognized as the top champion of the Year Beast Secret Realm and has only just begun his challenges. Most people believe that if Lian Yun attempts a few more times and reaches the forty-fifth level while securing first place throughout, it would be entirely normal.
If that were to happen, Lian Yun would also become number one on the leaderboard. Although the reward for being first on that leaderboard is fixed at one hundred thousand Honor Points and one million White Spirit Coins, when combined with other achievements, it could total nearly five hundred thousand Honor Points and five million White Spirit Coins.
Moreover, what if Lian Yun were to break through unprecedentedly past the forty-fifth level and reach beyond? The rewards would likely make even a Peerless Monarch envious.
As such, many people are watching closely for changes in the BSS Tower.
However, the majority of the Major Powers remained relatively calm. Although the rewards doubled after the fortieth level, so did the strength of the BSS, which made them less concerned.
In fact, the name Bai Yun did not overshadow Lian Yun, as after reaching the forty-second level, Bai Yun's name ceased to appear. Meanwhile, Lian Yun indeed surged to the forty-fourth level, filling up the Ranking List with only nine names.
Although it was only the tenth position, this truly represented the Top Ten of the Kings.
As a result, some speculated that Bai Yun had gone to rest or that a Ghost Slave had been injured. However, it wasn't long before many noticed that Bai Yun's name appeared on another Ranking List.
This was a challenge Ranking List, similar to the dungeons that Lian Yun had faced before arriving in Xianyang City. However, instead of defending, it involved defeating waves of Chaos Beasts within a certain altar.
This altar was relatively accessible and started from the Elementary Kings. As long as one could clear a wave, there were fixed rewards every month.
Although initially meager—just a bit of honor and one hundred Gray Spirit Coins—it provided an opportunity for common kings to earn 'free' rewards. Moreover, after surpassing thirty waves, the rewards were roughly equivalent to those from the first level of BSS.
As for rankings, they were based on the number of cleared challenges and total challenge time, with a thousand slots available on the Ranking List.
Lian Yun chose to challenge this place first because BSS Tower had weekly settlements. With less than six hours until settlement upon leaving, it was insufficient for him to reach higher floors. Additionally, continuously using his sword techniques had taken a toll on his body, triggering early warning signals of fatigue.
Furthermore, the Challenge Platform offered relative control; although another wave of Chaos Beasts would immediately appear after defeating one wave, if he could trap the last beast, he would have some time to rest.
Moreover, he could tackle each challenge separately and repeatedly challenge without worrying about Spirit Coins dropping.
Lian Yun came here primarily to cultivate the Demonic Dance of the Harp for soul recovery and to train his Ghost Slaves.
Initially, Lian Yun repeatedly challenged levels one through thirty—from Elementary King to Peak of Kings. At first, although he unleashed twelve Greatswords, he did not kill any enemies; instead, he let his Ghost Slaves fight.
Then he realized that simply practicing his harp skills yielded little benefit. He began controlling his longsword to slay enemies; although this consumed more energy, the insights gained upon recovery were far greater. His Mental Power and spiritual energy became increasingly refined.
As for the Three Golden Hairs, they were currently in cultivation to enhance their realm.
During this time, Lian Yun challenged the thirty levels for an extended period. Lian Yun's Demonic Dance of the Harp could now be described as extraordinary, but that was only limited to controlling twelve long swords.
Starting from the second level, Lian Yun began to increase the number of long swords while summoning all of his Ghost Slaves, continuously pushing through the challenges.
The Challenge Platform consisted of eighty levels: thirty for Kings and fifty for Monarchs. Before reaching the seventy-first level, Lian Yun could pass through relatively easily, but after that, things became more difficult.
However, Lian Yun was not in a hurry; he repeatedly tackled the challenges.
One reason was to reduce the time spent on each level, and the other was to allow his Ghost Slaves to fight and improve their combat abilities.
When Lian Yun reached the seventieth level, he had already made a name for himself. After all, while the strength of those in Yin Yang City was a level above that of the outside world, it was still quite rare for someone from the King's Realm to defeat a Monarch and challenge at a higher tier.
At the seventieth level, Lian Yun ranked beyond five hundred. By the seventy-first level, he had moved up to within five hundred, and with each level he cleared, dozens more would join him.
Since the Chaos Beasts on the Challenge Platform were not considered bosses and lacked special attributes like rapid healing, high defense, or high agility, Lian Yun charged straight to the seventy-sixth level.
